Hara Kiri (in all it's misspelled forms) is the word most people know for oriental suicide. Although its literal translation doesn't make much sense in MK, you must also remember that hara kiri was also performed by nobles and soldiers who've dishonored their ancestors or their family/clan/whatever through failure or disrespect. Hara kiri was the traditional way of the trangressors to take the blame for their dishonor without blemmishing their family's/clan's/whatever's reputation, sort of a way of saying ' I take full responsibility for the atrocity I caused, and will make sure it will never happen again', but in a more permanent form. So, in that sense, the hara kiris in Deception make perfect sense: the loser's just taking their own life to atone for their dishonorable failure instead of allowing their rep and their allies/family/etc. to be stained more by allowing their opponent to take their life for them.
