Here is what I think are the real reasons behind MK v DC

1. More time for Ed and his team to test Unreal Engine in a production environment... Online with real players trying out MK v DC and taking the feedback to make the next real MK better.

2. PS3 sales in N. America is still low but it will eventually catch up with XBOX 360 (4.5m compared to 360's 11.5m). Therefore the only logical option is for Midway is to wait before releasing the real next generation MK8 where fans get new characters and updated storyline.

3. They need to keep fans interested while actively working on creating a game that would have the same 'WOW' effect as MK:Deception did back in 04. They probably require more time to fully understand how to best utilize UR engine.

4. To balance the books for 08 while they approach reasons 1-3 with the best possible strategy for MK8 or if you want to call it MK9.

------------------------------------------

My only hope is that Midway can find a way to stay alive. Shares have been underperformed for sometime now and I don't know if they can become profitable again or we might end up seeing the next real MK8/MK9 being released by Take-Two or EA games.

--------------------------------------------

I'm interested to know what you guys think.

Trax

PS: Ed, if you're reading this, I better be friggin' right!

I agree. Last week I was utterly disappointed in the new mk announcement. And in fact, still do not plan on buying MK vs DC. I just hope that midway does go under for some reason. Maybe they'll get bought out by a bigger company with more resources and a bigger dedication to making quality games. Lets just hope boon and co can get a better handle on the unreal engine and hire some killer character designers, like the gears of war crew did, and come out with a balls out, blood and fatality drenched, core mk game. I always felt that boon did an excellent job on the story end, but lacked when it came to characters. I think that they may need some new, young, fresh faces to help with character design. Maybe it's just me, but I'm sick of the over embellishment of the ninjas. They look more like cyborgs than anything else. Just give them the original look from the original MK with tiny modifications. To me the ninjas would look not as comical and more "serious." Same goes for Raiden, tone him down too.

Oh well, here's to MK9, I'm hanging on by a thread Mr. Boon.

Reason 1 sounds similar to how MKDA was to MKD and MKD turned out to be a pile of rubbish gameplay wise. Then MKA followed on and was even worse. I do think it'll be more of the same though and they should hopefully produce somethign spectacular for MK9.

I like Taven's look than say Kabal. So I think you're right from that perspective. Take out the garbage and focus on core programming and refreshing the franchise.

@ Tgrant - They just need more time. If they get the time then they can fully test all the modalities. I hope releasing MK v DC gives them that time. I hope!

You sir, are uneducated! There are tonnes of threads and videos showcasing MKD's and MKA's terrible gameplay and many, many glitches.

I think you guys forget that MK:D was the first online game. So you can't expect it to be perfect. That's why MK:A introduced some new elements (Parry and wake-ups) to fix MKD glitches. Those elements may or may not have worked out well depending on who talk to but it was still good effort. In my opinion, KAKs and Bosses killed MKA.. Oh and some crazy glitches but that was due to lack of testing.

I also hope that that MK9 or maybe even MK v DC can start getting updates from Midway to fix bugs on next gen. consoles. Pretty much how you had different versions of UMK3 at the arcade.

I liked every sequel of MK since MKDA.

If MK team and take their time with MK9, it may turn out to be the best yet even online.

MK:A is wack online though. MKD was better but I would say MK:A is better overall!

I loved MK Deception. In my opinion, it was the MK II of the 3D MKs. I don't know about all the 50/50 stuff, but I sat down one afternoon and played a few friends and had a blast...MKA...I played it for a few days and got tired of it...I'm actually playing it again, but losing interest quickly again...

and here is mine

Now. This is going to get crazy. Like Mel Gibson crazy..not Tom Cruise crazy. Possible Gary Busey crazy.

Anyways, My Idea is that. the Batman in the trailer is in fact a CAW. MIdway got a deal with DC to use licensed material in their CAW mode. Thusly making perfect representations. The actual MK8 will just be a normal MK game.
Although I'm not sure whether they're serious about the lack of Fatalities, though that may have been part of the deal for using their peeps.
Decapitated Batman is and I quote a very famous swordsman 'NO GOOD!"
So instead of gore and blood there's going to be...possible decent gameplay.
Gamer 1: BAWWW I CAN'T RIP YOUR SKELETON OUT YOUR ASS!!!
Gamer 2: But holy shit did you just fling my dude through a wall by my ankle?

Though I personally find it strange that Batman can be struck and impaled by Scorpion's famous phallus instrument...maybe this time around it's a lil suction
cup...and instead of a skull, scorpion is :) .

I honestly want to know how Sub-Zero will be able to hold his own against Superman. Seems a lil one sided.

ANyway, I"ve ranted long enough (for now)
This went from me telling you it's all a ruse to imitating the angry Fans out there because they can't play Barbarian Ninja Surgeon Deathtouch-A-Rama.

Peace, bitches. wink

This theory (in the starter post) has crossed my mind, too, and I like to roll with it because it eases the pain. Hopefully you're right on the money, and MKDC is just a starting point and base-maker so that MK:9 (or the real MK:8) will be everything we hoped it would be since MK:A came out. Hell, if you ARE right, then MKDC might eventually go from utter disappointment to just the better route that's just tough to swallow; I mean, if MK:8 was gonna be crap just because it's the MK Team's first work with next-gen, then it's better to wait for them to get acquainted and experienced first.
