Honesty, and Ed Boon, do the really go together? Judge for yourself!
I have already made a summary post regarding my dealings with Ed Boon back in the days when MK and MK2 first came out. That post can be found here:

Now for a more detailed post, I give you this
Now regarding everything that has been said about Ed Boon, or more specifically, his statements during Fight Night, I myself do not find them credible. I for one can say that I have personally dealt with him in the past. As mentioned in my previous post, I and a few others in my area were once lead organizers of an MK fan base back when MK and MK2 first came out. My personal experience in dealing with Mr. Boon was not a good one. I must point out one important thing, since the conception of MK, I had actually dealt with Mr. Boon on a more frequent basis at a time when there were major efforts to ban such controversial games, and early in the conception of MK2. My specific task as one of the lead members of the fan base was to try and get any information for the fans regarding Midways new in-house projects, any un-released codes or Easter eggs, un-lockable confirmations, and answers to questions prepared by the fans. So again, this goes to say that I pretty much collaborated with Mr. Boon in the same fashion one of the Mods of Fight Night would have collaborated with him. Except back in days, things were not so structured and formal to say the least.
My first impression of Mr. Boon was not such a good one, and only got worse after time; mainly due to the inconsistencies or untruthfulness in the anything he would say to me, on or off the record. Much like what went on during Fight Night, there were many times when he would not give me any straight forward answers. In fact, any of Mr. Boons answers were almost always vague. There were many times I had caught him in down right lies. When questioned about this, his response would always be, I did my best to answer all your questions to the best of my knowledge. This did not seem likely to me being that he was one of the main project leaders, I mean come on now, how is it one can not give you an honest, straight forward response, when theyre pretty much running the show?
Here is an example of one of my many dealing with, and one of the (dishonest) responses, that I got, when MK2 first came out. First off, many of us at the time were having trouble finding out the fatalities and babality for many of the characters; Mileenas sai pummel is my case and point. Many of us had accidentally performed her second fatality and babality, so we knew it existed and was present in the game. When I contacted Mr. Boon regarding this, and had asked him to either deny or confirm: 1. that all the other characters must have more than one fatality. 2. that all the characters also had babalities and/or other secerets. And finally 3. To either tell us how to, or at least confirm, that we were close to getting the button configurations and moves right to perform the fatalities, and babalities. His response as, I remember went somewhat like this.
I can tell you that yes there are other fatalities for some of the characters. But as far as babalities go, I dont know what your referring to. I myself have not seen or heard of these things called babalities, so more than likely you were misinformed. As far as the moves and button configuration go, I can tell you that I would eventually expect them to leak out in time so keep trying and youll eventually get them.
When I persistently asked him again to please confirm the button and move configurations, he said yes, that we were close to the right configurations, when in fact we were way off. And when I questioned him about other secrets, specifically other hidden characters in the game, he told me then that yes there were four more in the game but that they would be very, very hard to get to (I never found out if this was true or not other than Noob.)
Now you make your own judement as to the disposition of Mr. Boon, but as for me, I know well enough now to take what he says as being unreliable.

As i recall (though not 100%). He also denied the existance of Reptile in MK1, Yet confirmed the existance of Ermac in MK1 during a GamePro interview. But in in MK2, Had Smoke and Jade say "Ermac Who?" and "Ermac Does Not Exist"... Then Ermac (luckily) appears in UMK3.
I actually kind of respect Ed Boon for this, He has always kept me interested,

Which is what made MK what it was.
I doubt it all would be quite so interesting if he had said 'There is no Ermac, and Reptile is waiting at the bottom of the pit' etc etc.
He's more like the master of mystery, and he's rich because of it.
