How do you rate todays 2D fighting game vs. yesteryears 2D fighting game?

old school MKII/MK3 vs. Guilty Gear/Street Figther Anniversary/etc. Is it more fun (gameplay) todays 2D fighter? More creative graphics?

Super Street Fighter II Turbo, King of Fighters '98, Street Fighter III: Third Strike and KOF 2003 (1994, 1998, 1999 and 2003 respectively) are all among the best 2D fighters of all time. Age has very little to do with quality.
