That could be his source of power but destroying arena objects doesn't make sence at all.

Perhaps in his previous lifetime he was a simple person, who gathered up alot of people and then made them into his army using a magical rock that is now in his possesion. Eager to reclaim his powers, he now uses the amulet to recover what was originally his, the dragon kings army.
