Try this

1. Reset your modem.

2.If you have an old ps2 Take off the online expansion pack and put it back on.

3.Call your online provider.

^^^^Number 2 is usually the problem.wink

Is it possible for someone with a good connection ie 4 stars, explain to me how they have their PS2 configured. No matter what I do my connection sucks. I set it up as default DMZ server. It doesn't help. I always pull the plugs to let it reset after I make changes to settings. I have optimum online cable service. I am using a netgear router (RP614 I think). I have tried port forwarding the ports listed in the MKA instruction manual. I shut the router firewall off. I really don't know what else to do. I am getting very pissed off that I can't get this working right.

So if possible.... could anyone give an example of their settings, or anything else that I can try...

when i played MKD I had 5 star connection all the time (running with Shaw Cable in Calgary), but with MKA it never shows any stars for me, I still seem to have a nice connection though. neways I had no problem with Shaw Cable, all I had to do was to plug it in my PS2 slim and I was on line.
but on the other hand with Telus DSL I couldn't connect because they told me I had to put in the set up cd for online and enter their Mac #. I was like screw it; cable over DSL 24/7.

Well to answer your question.

I would say to change your ISP. I had Comcast cable for awhile when i played MKD and well,Lets just say my conn was horrible. I then changed it to Yahoo DSL. I have a perfect 4 star conn and it is 30 dollars cheaper.

Hope that helps.wink

What exactly are you needing to know? Maybe if you tell me i may be able to help you out. I have been playing online now, since the first days that MKD came out. So let me know and ill try to help.wink

Well, this is kinda overdue, but at the same time very much needed since MKA will be lurking it's head around the corner in a couple months. So, this thread is for people to be directed to where they can find information on getting online with their PS2.

What's needed first is to buy a PS2 Network Adaptor. That is if you have an old PS2 model or plan to buy one. You can find a Network Adaptor at just about any video game store or a store that has a game department like Target or Best Buy for example. New Network Adaptors run about $40 and used ones are generally half that. Though, if you hunt around hard enough, you might find one for about $15.

However, if you plan on buying the newer PS2 Slim, there's no need to buy a Network Adaptor, cause it's already built into the console.

Now as for getting online, Playstation.com has pages that provide detailed explinations of how to do it:

>| Installation
>| ISP Contact Information
>| IP Address and Firewall Support
>| Setup Diagrams

In case you encounter any issues, there is a Troubleshooting section that you can refer to:

>| Setup Failure
>| Connection Failure
>| Error Messages
>| FAQ
>| Glossary

Hopefully, this should just about cover it in terms of getting online. But if there's a problem that someone encounters and is having a problem figuring it out through the links, fell free to post it here and hopefully someone will try offer assistance.

Also, if there's something that might be included, post it here too.

Hey GhostDragon,Your links to help are all the same. None of them send you anywhere. I think you should update them bro. Just a heads upwink

For what it's worth, I can play burnout3 and flatout2 online with no probs. MK deception tells me that my network cable is unplugged. Too bad, 'cause I would have kicked all you punk ass up and down the internet. Or not.wink

Well, this is my first post here on MKO. I'm not hooked up yet online but hopefully by tomorrow I will be. I noticed you don't have anything for people who have a wireless internet connect and want to hook up. After doing alot of research I found that PS2 doesn't support wireless play. I've been told that a wireless bridge adapter will solve the problem but I will soon see. Does anyone have any input or experience with this?

I heard that the bridge adapter will work but, your connection speed and reliabililty will not be as good as a wired connection.

Yea that's the bad thing with wireless, can't you just run CAT5 from your router to your ps2?

Nah, I rent out a guest house thats seperate from the main house. But I tried to go online this weekend and it kept saying Error (-112) or something like that. I think I'm going to have to convince the landlord if I could have the normal router replaced with a gaming router. Wish me luck.confused

It doesn't look like my ISP(Verizon) will even work. I called them and they told me they don't even support PS2. So I'm going to have a cable connection put in through Time Warner. The only thing is I don't know what package to choose. They have 1.5Mbps, 6Mbps and 10 Mbps. Obviously I would like to spend as little as possible so I ask you:

What speed connection do you use and how is the quality (connection, lag time, etc.)?

I would appreciat any feedback to help me make a descision.

P.S. I already have wireless so this would only be stricktly for PS2. Thanks.

A Modem

Ethernet Cable

DSL Broadband

And yet, all I get is "a Network cable is not connected". How I correct this problem?

Do you have it plugged into the system or do you have CAT5?
