"they wanted to make him look more Chinese and distinct from Scorpion."
That's when it hit me. You see, Lin Kuei warriors are drafted from areas all over the world from childbirth(usually). This is why Cyrax as African-American and Sub was white. But anyone who played MKM knows that Sub's clan was Chinese(the Lin Kuei), and Scorpions was japanese(don't remember the name). So despite Sub's American Ancestry, he was still trained and raised under chinese life-style. That's my theory, but I'm pretty sure this is what they meant.

Oh, and Temp, to refresh your memory, Scorpion's clan was called the Shirai Ryu.

Ah, that's right. Thanks for the clear up, man.
If that isn't the hardest freakin name in the world to remember, than I don't know what is. Although it sounds quite cool.

So, how is turning Sub-Zero more asian going to distinct him from Scorpion? Not to mention that Sub-Zero was portayed as a Chinese ninja in the first 2 games and sudently looked amarican in MK3-DA. |
true that JAX007. at first i thought that sub was an american because he looked like 1 in mkda not sure he looked different but making him more asian doesnt matter the only thing it matters is that hes a good carachter

IMO he looks alot better Asian, especially in Deception. His look always never ceases to impress me...

Since MK2 and MK3 revealing the 2 brother sub-zero's faces, I've always thought of them to be half brothers. Since the sub-zero (from MK2's endingI guess showed sub-zero to be a 100% Chinese dude and in MK3 with Sub-zero unmasked to be white, but knowing that sub-zero 's brother is chinese one would think that he is half Chinese. Also I think the biggest reason why in Sub-zero from MK2 and MK3 look differant is because of the real life problems Midway had with its motion capture actors and actresses. As many of you people know that the actors and actress tried to sue Midway for some profit for MK2 for being as successful as it was. They lost and of course Midway didn't want them back, so they hired new people to do there motion capture work. John Turk the guy that played Sub-zero in MK3 looks white to me , but I think it may be possible in game wise that he could pass for half white and half Chinese.

Okay, the guy who did Sub-Zero's motion capture in MK2 was the same dude who did Johnny Cage's motion capture. For that matter, Daniel Pesina did motion capture for Johnny Cage and ALL Male ninjas for MK1 and MK2. Take a look at Scorpion's MK1 ending. That unmasked Scorpion (probably him before he died) looks almost like Johnny Cage. What I don't get, though, is why Sub-Zero ended up looking Asian in that second pic of his MK2 ending.
And as for Daniel Pesina, himself, he was not one of the people who tried to sue Midway over MK2 royalties. As a matter of fact, Daniel Pesina actually worked for Midway, but got fired. I don't remember exactly what he got fired for, though. And I don't know how he's related to Carlos Pesina.

I always figured he was American. But he would still be Chinese. Remember, he was raised in China by the Lin Kuei. I mean think about it. Cyrax is black, Sub-Zero is white. Both were Lin Kuei. Cyrax was probably an african american abducted at birth. Smoke could be Australian by birth for all we know. All that matters is they all grew up In China as Lin Kuei members.
As for Sub-Zero's appearance in Mortal Kombat 2, I think they just hadn't worked out what he looked like under the mask yet. If I'm correct, they just had someone from the MK team who was asian put on the S-Z costume.
Perhaps their father is most likely Chinese and their mother is American. I like his alternate look more than I did before and he does have more of that Asian look though I don't think it's quite Lin Kuei-ish...As for his primary costume, I don't know why they'd go for the Shogun Ninja look like Shredder has but maybe Sub's primary costume look isn't a Shogun Ninja look.
But anyway, to sum things up, Sub-Zero IS an American who lives in China.
