I trully miss the 3D games, their stories, characters, everything
Does anyone else feel like I do? I'm not really discussing the play style (2D, 3D, etc) but I feel that the atmosphere, the characters, the stories, everything... especially from Deadly Alliance and Deception were the best of the whole series. I really love the plot up until Deception and in my mind that's still where the storyline went.
I love MK9 to death (although I like to call it MK 2011 because technically it is the 8th pure MK game, not the 9th), loved the story mode, everything, but I felt disappointed with the direction the story went... I miss characters like Ashrah, Drahmin, Havik, Hotaru, the Konquest Modes, the new realms, even the music (which was really inpired in Deadly Alliance)... I don't know... I never found a single thread talking about this but I hope I'm not the only one. I still love playing MK9 but I don't have a lot of interest in it because I don't really feel that much connection with the story (instead, I still prefer to play UMK3 because I feel that the real storyline is there).
Does anyone miss those days or is it just me? In the end, I think that Armageddon killed the story and they just had to reset it, unfortunately, Deception was great in my point of view and I would love to see an intelligent progression of that story.

I miss alll the characters they ditched, Ashrah was the best. I like the return to 2d but i always loved the music, gameplay, among other things

As much I as I love the 3D games, for me, story wise it's where the series started to go a bit haywire. I feel like they just tried to pack in way to much mythology and new characters (and costumes!) to the point where it became a bit bloated and needlessly complex. I still struggle regarding the newer characters like Ashrah, Havok, etc. as proper members of the "MK" roster for some reason. None of them really gelled with me in the way the others have over the years.
So I guess in some ways, for me, the "MK" 'cannon' ended at "MK 4"/"Gold." But as I said, I do love the ones that came after, but I don't quite regard them in the same way if that makes sense.

I try to forget the evil, the destruction of what 3D did to a great fighting game. Mortal Kombat became infected with the plague that was the 3D fighting plane. And it continued for years and years, no one could open their fucking eyes and see what they had done.
That dark decade of confusion and mediocreness is the past now. Mortal Kombat can finally get on the right path now. Those who "prefer" the 3D games are just lost and confused, they dont matter because they supported the destruction of the series. Now the more superior fans can continue and support the franchise as it continues in the right direction.
Its great thats there is a little forum for ignorant people like who just cant accept the cold facts.
So look back, go ahead, some of us would like to look forward ans MK recovers.

WTF? MKDA was the best thing that happened to the series at that time. Totally refreshed the graphics, gameplay, story, mechanics and beating out other competitor games in the fighting genre showing how it should be done! (but that's what i think about MK in general.)
i totally love the 3D games, but there's no need to 'miss' them OP, just stick em in and get fighting!!

MKDA made me interested in MK again in a time where I wasn't interested anymore... if that's destructing the series, I wish they could destruct it again.
MK9 is a superb game, but I miss the new story that DA had, it was ballsy as hell to kill off Liu Kang at the time, they had guts, and they played it super safe with MK9. I don't like what they've done with the story now. I like those characters from the 3D era and even if the new games aren't 3D anymore (I prefer playing in 2D from a gameplay standpoint) I miss the fact that these games at least tried to move FORWARD, and MK9 only had a few new characters... it was a fan service game, a huge and awesome one, but it was fan service for those who didn't move forward with the series. They wanted to cater to the old MK crowd and the fans who supported the series moving forward were also pleased, but at the same time, many of those changes, which were good, were abandoned.
Also, I made this thread in the 3D Games forum... if somepeople hate them so much why do they bother to answer?

See, I think that by the time we got to "Armageddon" (as I said in my post) the whole thing had gotten a bit too messy. I was surprised at first when I learned "MK" 2011 would be a reboot, but when I gave it some thought it made perfect sense to me. I think they kind of backed themselves into a corner in that department, and the new storyline has de-cluttered the series.
I do miss the "DOA" style multi-tiered arenas from "Deception" and "Armageddon", and the death traps. Those were awesome additions!

Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance revived Mortal Kombat from what was a downward spiral of crappy media installments.
Mortal Kombat Deception revived many long-before-seen characters who may have otherwise been lost to the past. from a lack of development.
Mortal Kombat Armageddon had Kreate-A-Fighter.
The 3D era was not a mistake; Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe was.

Well,I don't agree that MKvsDC was a mistake,at least it made WB realize that this franchise has potential and they bought it,giving NRS more time and resources to create quality games, like MK2011 and Injustice.
And yeah,MKDA and MKD were one of my favorite MK games,so I don't agree that they are mistakes either.

MKDA and MK1 probably still trumps MK2 to me.
And the less said about the story and design of MK4 the better. That game was a rushed mistake of dismal proportions.
But yeah, aside MK1, DA was the only thing that felt like a martial arts movie.
MKD less so but tried.

i miss the conquest mode to deception the most. I loved how you had to unlock certain stuff. like how you had to wait a specific time and day to find a hidden chest that pops up. it just kept making me wanna play to see if I can find any more hidden secrets. a conquest mode like that again would be pretty neat haha.

Each MK game has some thing good about them. Even MK vs DC has good points. Even Mk4/Good has some good elements as well.
