I'm going to be extremely pissed. 30 or 32 is a good number and equals much more diversity. I just hope the 20 characters rumor isn't true.

It's not true, don't worry.

Subman, I pray and hope you are right! But I heard from three people that boon supposedly mentioned it. MKO needs to call boon up and tell him to kick that roster number up to 32 or something. Heres the number of characters i'll accept:
32-Perfect
30-Great
24-Ok, I'll survive.

20 character roster for both MK and DC characters on a NEXT GEN SYSTEM is unacceptable
From what I've read...Subman is always discrediting the rumor because it's from the Show X-Play.
So Subman, have they been wrong on several occasions? If not, why do you not believe it.
And I haven't seen anything where Boon has mentioned it...but I could have missed something.

Sigh, well since MKO aren't reporting it then I guess we can relax but I won't be able to fully relax until we find out the number of fighters.

From an interview with Ed Boon (the best one I've seen yet too):
'Gone are the masses of playable characters (Armageddon had over 60). And gone, to some extent, is the trademark gore.
In is a vastly reduced playable character roster ("Every single character is a known DC character, a known MK character. Because they're so iconic, we don't feel like we want to do the huge, massive roster. We just focus in on these core 20 characters").'

Boon stated in a recent interview that if can determine the "Most-Famous" Mortal Kombat/DC characters that you'd be able to determine 90% of the roster.Seeing if there's 20 characters, that must mean that there is an equal amount of characters for each side.
So,that would mean 10 from each, taking out 1 from each side as the remaining 10%.So most of the characters will be well-known,with the exception of the remaining 2 characters.
These are minor estimates, seeing as I don't know the exact figures,Although I'm quite sure that,Boon, would give an equal amount of characters for each side.(Guessing so that no fans have anger towards the game?)

Wow 20 characters? What the hell is the point of even making this game on the 360/ps3. I would really like to know how they are gonna utilize this gen's console power. It seems like Ed Boon is just lazy and stupid. This game seems so strange and corny, wtf was he thinking.

That's true. Too bad 20 isn't a decent number.

Also, from the looks of the trailer. The fighting system does not seem to have changed. I was hoping for a little bit more fast pased fighting. But whatever I guess we just wait for the next trailer and see.

MK:DA was unplayable not because of people like Hsu-Hao and Mavado, but because the roster was inexcusably small. I cannot play MK, MK2 or even MK3 due to there immensely diminutive rosters anymore, especially in this gen. You won't see another fighter out there this gen with as little as 20 characters.

Just doesn't sit right with me. But hey, quality over quantity i guess.

MK:DA was unplayable because it was a shit game with a shit engine. The fact that people of this generation have ADD is no excuse to pack a game with useless shit characters.

I'm still not buying this idea. 20 characters in a next gen MK game just doesn't sound right. Something must be up. But if we're only getting twenty, then that would mean that the MK team is focusing on quality over quantity, which is a good sign.
Also, I never believe X-Play because they're just so stupid imo. And I don't think I'm the only one who won't believe anything that X-Play says.

20 characters is great.
That way the team has more time to fucus on the quality of each character, more time to make each one fight differently and authentically.

lol, yeah, the MK team is known for that. Not a chance in hell they are going to even come close to doing that, no matter the number of characters. You are going to get the same quality of characters whether you have 2 or 200 in an MK game.

Quality > Quantity. If the roster is small and it allows them more time to develop the characters, gameplay etc better then I'm all for it. Look how bad Armageddon was with it's plethora of characters. Yes, MKD has less characaters and was almost as bad but we can hope they've learnt from their mistakes. I highly doubt 20 will be the final number though. They may have only meant 20 key characters as the starters and then a handful more to unlock.
Amargeddon had every mortal kombat character ever put in the game and no one was satisfied. Dont bitch now.
I like small character rosters. If this is done correctly, each character can be intricate and unique. Dont judge this game yet. Would you rather have a bunch of skin-changed character clones, a few game modes, a crappy konquest mode that isnt even fun and underdetialed, or an entertaining game with individual characters with a quality, unique game system in ever mode of the game.

Once you start to put more than 25 characters in a fighter it become almost impossible to balance the game.
Take tekken 5 for an example where you get pro tournaments and everyone is using steve fox.
Who was far to strong for anyone else.
