Yeah, so exactly what were the other candidates? Rehashes?

*sees the contenders*

That's not exactly competition. Of course a full-fledged fighting game would win that. Isuka, Street Fighter, etc. are all rehashes and Def Jam is a pretty terrible game compared to Mortal Kombat, considering its WRESTLING.

Maybe if it was up against Soul Calibur 3, Tekken 5, and whatever I'd celebrate but that's obvious as hell it can win when its pitted against rehashes and third rank games.

Why wasn't this news up early this weekend? I submitted a news lead about Gamespot's article sometime Saturday. What took so long?

Well I think it's kind of interesting how some of people aren't acknowledging the effort and accomplish that the MK Team has done. They took a classic fighting game, and have finally revamped it for the next generation. It's great that they have successfully kept this franchise alive, and popular. And to say it's wrong to celebrate Deception's victory over the other games at the E3, just because that there is a possibility that sometime in the next year there might be a game that will be better, is also wrong in itself. I've always loved MK because it brought something new and fresh to the fighting game arena, in some way or another. And honestly, I've played all of the other games, and they all kind of seem the same to me, they just give me variations of the same game. And least MK had the guts to make a gory game that could appease fighting fans. So now this year, these game sites could have easily said chose DOA or Tekken as the best fighters this year, but they picked something that stood out because of its creative and innovative style, instead of a rehash of the same.

Mortal Kombat: Deception (new) against...

Guilty Gear Isuka - This is just an upgrade to GGX2. Nothing special. GGX is my favorite fighting game series, but a rehash is a rehash.

Street Fighter Anniversary - A collection of a bunch of rehashed games to the max.

DOA Ultimate - DOA 1 and 2 compiled together. Rehash.

Def Jam - This is a wrestling, not fighting, game.

Tekken 5 was NOT PLAYABLE at E3.

This isn't anything to celebrate over. It beat out a bunch a remakes. Obviously it would win. If they gave it to any of the other games I'd be pissed, because they're just remakes. Its cool Mortal Kombat received recognition, but give it glory, not this. Beating a bunch of remakes when you're the ONLY NEW game is like a pro winning in the minors. Its bullshit. I want MK:D to beat out Namco, not a bunch of 2D remakes.

why? videogame journalists attend E3. it's already a proven fact that 99% of them don't have a clue when it comes to fighting games. like it's already been said, it was really the only NEW/PLAYABLE fighter there. the rest were either non-playable or are already older games. plus journalists probably saw the extra features like chess and screamed "OMG BESTFIGHTEREVER". seriously, reviewers at ign, gamespot, all them places don't know what is and isn't a good fighting game.

the FACT is, problems that plagued mkda were in the E3 version of mkd. that doesn't bring much hope at all. that's why people are dissapointed.

See that's my point, MK has the only originality out there now. Like you said it's nothing but rehashes and remakes. Sure if Tekken 5 would have been playable, than maybe things would have been different, but from what I can tell it's still just more of the same stuff. I just watched the trailer again, and I don't see anything fantastic there, it looks like it'll be a cool fighter, but why should I consider this over any other game. It's just another rehash.

If DOA, Tekken, or anything else had made such a huge impression on these websites, then why didn't they just give the award to those games and just say that "The trailer got us so pumped for this game, that we couldn't think of anything else that would fit into this category the best! I can't wait to kick Kasumi or Ayane into that elephant!"? That's because nothing did. They weren't blown away, maybe that's because that Tekken wasn't playable, maybe not. And I'm not saying that Deception is the Second Coming or even that it'll be the best fighting game other, all I'm saying is that give the MK Team some credit, they've been working hard to give us all this new, and original content, why can't we just give them a couple of awards and a pat on the back?

MKDA wasn't the best fighter, it had the best story, most gore, and lots 'o making of stuff in it... I hope MKD is good as many of these reviewers are making it out to be... this version of MKD didn't have combo breakers or the rest of the upgrades that are supposedly going to even things out... I hope they do... and supposedly according to Ed Boon the fighting styles are going to be more useful and more distinct... I hope for that also... if they use these things into the fighting system and a few more things like real reversals and a good system it might not only be the best MK ever(which it probally will) but maybe a great tournament worthy fighting game... because the graphics, mini games, konquest, fatalities, and everything else is looking good, and if the fighting system gets the bugs worked out and makes this more of a competitive game... this game might be a top tier fighting game...
I find it humorous that the majority of people whining about MK:D probably haven't played it.

Hell, at ebgames.com people leave reviews for games that aren't coming out until 2005! tongue

It's my understanding that allot of the negativity still comes from MK:DA being heavily marketed and then released prematurely in SOME peoples minds. In fact, SOME people feel that MK:D is simply going to be what MK:DA should have been, minus the puzzle, chess, and konquest modes of course.

Sure, a few silly nit wits will always whine no matter what, but many reasonable and intelligent MK fans- who call it like they see it- have had some very honest and valid criticisms about MK:DA. Are you wondering why they don't just leave the forum and burn their collection of MK games? It's because many of them are still fans of the MK trilogy, and SOME like myself, have been fans for much longer then many of you. tongue

Now as for me, I was relatively happy with MK:DA. But to a certain understandable degree, SOME people were not so happy. I mean as a general rule of thumb, a person feeling like they have been d*cked around will tend to get their blood up, even (and sometimes especially) when there is a love-hate relationship with that which they percieve to be the "culprit". Oh it's a little twisted, heh heh... no doubt, but "it is what it is" as they say.

What's the point you ask? I guess it would be to remind everyone why that good ole' chip still resides on the shoulders of SOME still very die hard MK fans.

All that said, congrats to the MK team on a well earned E3 victory! I'm stoked for MK:D! smile

And if we don't, we get some half-assed copy (E3 version). As a matter fact, I haven't seen you make a single bad point on MK:D yet.
