I don't know about you guys. But I think it's ironic that everybody thought that this game is going to suck and stuff. But now I think it's going to be one of the best MK games since MK 2. And it shows to non-MK fans that MK is not about over-the-top gore and violence.

Yeah that's very ironic I guess. People were worried because of the idea of Sub-Zero fighting Batman etc. Now there's a lot few skeptic people on this forum.

...It's not?

of course not, when you first play the game you like all the blood and stuff but after a while you get over the blood and get interested in the story the characters, and stuff like that. So in the end the blood and gore is just a feature in this amazing game.

Fighting games are/should be about fighting. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yeah, I for one have never chosen story over gameplay. Even though it is fun to delve into the history of the characters and their relationships to one another. I normally play fighting games for the competition. Once you run through the story mode, that's it. The multiplayer is where 90% of the replay value comes from. If the gameplay mechanics are no good, then there is no point in getting good at the game to play at high level.
But I will admit that MK has the most engaging storyline of any fighting game on the planet. The mystique of the characters and the settings are top notch.
Peace

Boring. Gameplay is a sequence of inputs that makes pixels move.

I'm sick of seeing this argument that fighting games don't need a coherent storyline and compelling characters.Fighting games can only benefit from a strong narrative. If Virtua Fighter Fighter and Tekken had Mortal Kombat's mythos, it would greatest video game ever made and would probably pull the genre out of its niche status and back into the mainstream. Mortal Kombat has been around for 15 years solely because if its characters and universe. It sure as hell isn't because of the violence, because if it was every MK clone of the mid 90's would still be around selling millions.

I can't believe you just said that
Anyway I think the gameplay is a very important part of a fighting game. The story is also important though.

its a bit of an overstatement, but both Tekken and Virtua Fighter really need work in the storyline department.

I'll say this, I'm still not sold on the idea of MK vs DC. I know why Midway felt they had to do this(Money problems/Oh cool we get to do a vs game that appeals to more than just MK fans), But I would have much preferred a pure mortal kombat game. That being said, I think the gameplay looks like a lot of fun. The graphics aren't the greatest, but it's a nice step up. I'll buy this game because it looks fun, and hell, at the end of the day, I'll get to steal Superman's soul....

Yes, they should be about fighting, and perfecting that fighting, nothing more, nothing less, as you said.
They should NOT focus on the gore over the fighting.
