Why would it be shallow to not get the game because its missing a feature that is essential to the franchise ........
How well did Manhunt 2 do after the censored the shit out of it ?

How would Street Fighter do if they got rid of projectiles ?

How would Halo do if they got rid of Multiplayer ?

Since when was Mortal Kombat about gameplay ?

1. It's not missing
2. Bad I guess?
3. That's gameplay not a video sequence
4. Again, gameplay
5. That would be since now?

The game censored part of one video sequence for the sake of the t-rating. It isn't even gameplay it's a video sequence. Sure I'd like it uncensored too but I don't see what people are getting so upset about. Of course you're allowed to have your opinions but I'm allowed to disagree.

I understand what you want to say. Nevertheless, it's a little bit like Christmas without any presents. Presents aren't really important because they're not the "essence" of Christmas. Being together with friends and family... thats what matters. However it is undeniable that getting some presents from others is fun!

The same goes for the fatalities in Mortal Kombat. Being together = gameplay, presents = fatalities.

I will admit that I am disappointed at this turn of events. I will still pick up the game because it looks like alot of fun to play, but I just died a little inside due to this news. sad

But what're you gonna do I guess.

Although I am kind of starting to believe the people who claim Midway is 'selling out.' Not that it matters.

Haha, and I was the one who first said "Boon/Midway sold out" the second they announced the game. Good to see people just now coming along. If this means that we'll actually get a quality product someday when Midway feels like it, then hey, do whatever makes the coin, but until then I don't support this game at all, and now these lame toned down fatalities are the icing on the cake.

From Kotaku:
Anyway, it's been changed up a bit, toned down to just slightly less than awesome to secure that highly coveted T-rating that Midway and Warner Bros. are so adamant about. In the latest build, Joker still whips out his prank gun, a "BANG!" flag unfurling. Unfortunately, you won't see the follow up of Joker shooting someone in the face; that actually happens off screen now, the headshot safely out of sight.

Joker's not the only one to get thrown through the rinse cycle:

Another Fatality that's seen some revision was Kitana's, one that involved her opponent being impaled by her trademark blade-fans. Initially, the first fan went into the torso, the other into the forehead. That second was a T-rating no-no. Double fans delivered to the chest, however, that's a T-rated way to end someone's life.

I'm more upset about this than I should be.

Since head wounds seem to be such a hot button, couldn't we have Joker shooting his victim in the chest instead, and they would keel over and fall flat on their face. I mean, its not the same, but its better than this censorship crap

Now, this sucks.

The fatality looked great imo. The fun mixed with the violent simplicity of it made it feel so realistic and gruesome....well, I guess that's exactly why it was changed. Oh well, the game is STILL looking fantastic, and I mean that in the big words: graphics, gameplay, story, etc. Gameplay looks amazing and a lot of fun. That's important.

Kitana's and Jax's fatalities also sound very boring, but we obviously have to wait to see before making any assumption.

That would be fuckin' ownage. Hurracanrana -> high mount -> GnP with a million vicious open hand slaps until blood starts leaking out of their ears.

Beautiful. Even better if she has her leg grab in there and ends up with Sonya probably breaking the victims neck....beautiful.

Going to have to agree there
You know there's a good chance they'll tone out the Joker's 2nd fatality too

One word: GAY! I've been saying for years that the ESRB needs a rating to bridge the gap between T and M, and this couldn't be a better example why.

Bull. Just big fricken bull sh**. The only DC character fatality/brutality i was looking forward to was Jokers. And now they gotta sensor it. This T rating wasn't making me mad before but if they're gonna keep sensoring this, why not just make it M?

I'm worried about this too. So what's the big deal about shooting someone in the head? why can't it be T rated? bunch of bullshit.

They better not tone down Raiden's fatality for the sake of having a skeleton in it.

That's a real shame though, it was going to be one of the best fatal's in the game.

If DC was cool with the joker's fatal and this was all because of the ratings board then why not make it M?

to be honest i think that DC never really wanted to make the game.
Midway convinced DC to take part of it only because they understood the critical situation of Midway and because not too long ago a rumor about WB taking out buying Midway.
Of course it's everything bulshit, and Midway will stand on his own.
But now...was Midway to choose a T rating for the game to sell as more copies as possible trying to reach a million of sold units by any means necessary.
Unluckly for us,only few members of the entire mk fanbase find out the "deception"(hehehehe) and understood that the T rating thing would have been the ruin of the game and not its rescuing anchor.
Now it's to late..i hope this game sells well, but i won't buy it.

DC approached Midway, not the other way arround.

*cue the Darth Vader bitch moan from Episode III*

"Nooooooooooooooooooo!"

I was never particularly looking forward to this game, but I agree that, along with most people, seeing Joker's "blow your brains out" fatality, I had a lot of hope. Hearing that it's been neutered is a pretty big blow.

Sure, it doesn't technically make the game less playable, but it does make it less "cool" by far. It would be like replacing Sub-Zero's spine rip fatality with one where he breaks their back instead. Still violent, but far less cool or memorable.

Though I pretty much called it. When the fatality was announced, I had high hopes that would mean an M-rated game, since that was an M-rated fatality. I should have guessed it would be censored so the tweener crowds could convince mommy to buy it for them for Christmas.

.....

.... I never thought I'd miss the buckets of blood, but here I am missing the buckets of blood. This just doesn't "feel" like an MK game to me.

Yes that is shallow and it speaks volumes about this franchise's fan base and why this franchise was in the crapper in the first place. We finally get a MK with potentially solid gameplay and nobody cares because of sub par arbitrary finishing moves that have absolutely nothing to do with gameplay. Ill take solid gameplay over fatalities any day of the fucking week. This game has the potential to legitimize this franchise as a "real" fighting game and nobody seems to care.......tragedy

Nope, you're wrong. Boon confirmed back in April in several interviews that DC contacted their marketing team with the crossover idea.

mortal kombats gameplay is not enough to carry the franchise. they need lots of other stuff to keep people interested.

and really fatalities are not arbitrary, if they were they wouldn't have been included in the first place. they're a big part of what makes mortal kombat mortal kombat.

I'd like an MK with "solid gameplay", but that hasn't happened for awhile, and judging by what I've seen of the current game, that still hasn't changed. I see the exact same recycled moves, clunky animations, and gimmicks that have plagued the past several installments.

... I'm sure I wasn't the only one hoping the return of "proper" fatalities would help compensate for that. Still, you'd be kidding yourself to say that MK vs. DCU will be the "first" MK game with "solid gameplay." I'm highly skeptical of that.

... I could always be wrong though.
yeah.. this truly is intensely bad.

This might just keep me from buying it when it comes out.

I'll probably buy it when it's really cheap, weather it's good or bad.. but I was kinda starting to feel the hype.

I think a shot to the stomach is better than not showing the person get shot.. but it's still pretty terrible.

You know.. I'm pretty sure I can think of a few t rated games where people are shot in the head. Also a few pg-13 movies that have people getting shot in the head with blood and all.

I still think having him shoot them in the head without blood is better than shooting him in the stomach.

Wow, this is some complete and utter bullshit!

I had high hopes after seeing Joker's and Raiden's fatalities.

Fuck DC for "not wanting their intellectual property to engage in such violence" (because their characters are just so good and wholesome) and forcing it into a T-rated format and fuck the ESRB for being a bunch of pansies.

A gunshot to the head is too violent? Tch, please. There wasn't even that much blood.

So Kitana's gonna have some crappy chest impalement? Fuck that. Oh, and I guess this means Deathstroke's Sword Impale/Uzi To The Face is fucked too.

Do I even want to speculate what will happen with Baraka?! Chest impalement may be fine, but I bet the pussies at ESRB will throw bitchfits if, heaven forbid, someone writhes around like a worm on a hook. Ya know, like they would in real life if they were made into a people-kabob.

Man, fuck this.

Why exactly did they make the game T-rated? MK is always M. Was it because of the DC fans?

I think it sucks, but I'll still get the game. I'm not that mad at MK, unless they start making all their games T, then I'll be pissed. I'm hoping they only made it T because of the DC part of it.
