yeh sure Kai wasn't interessted in become a shaolin warrior anymore.
he wants to wandering the earth, search his soul.
that kind of things he told to Raiden.
Raiden gave him his lighting staff for his journey, because he deserved it.
that's all what we know
Interesting. I have no idea how this can develop.

i dont really care for anyone who made they're debut in mk4 (with the exception of Quan Chi). I think of Kai as just a stand-in Kung Lao. I think Kai should stay out of the MK Universe unless the MK Staff get really desperate

I think that if Kai did come back he should come back as a Balance Gaurdian. He keeps the balance between good and evil. His three outfits could reflect that. One could show him as a savior, wearing mostly a white gi with some details, then you have a neatral outfit, much like his MK4 outdit, the last one could be dark, showing him with platinum colored haor, red eyes and wearing all black.

I don't think Fujin and Kai are worth bringing back. Especially Fujin.

About Me
"Is it so important that you win one last argument with him?" "No, it is not, but it is true that I will miss the arguments; they were, finally, all that we had."

Fujin is now an integral part to the story, since he's now Earth's Protector (and no, Raiden did NOT reclaim that status when re relinquished his role as an Elder God. Read his MK: DA ending), which means he now has the obligation to help lead the mortals into further confrontations with the forces of evil.
Kai, on the other hand, was just filler for Kung Lao. He was Liu Kang's friend, a fellow monk, but decided in his ending that he didn't want to be a monk anymore, and left to find his soul and stuff. Raiden (if Kai's ending is to be believed), gave Kai his Lightning Staff as thanks, stating that it would lead him down the path towards immortality.
Now, just who do you think is more worth bringing back? The newly crowned Protector of Earth? Or the stereotypical wandering monk/whiny slacker? Fujin was dedicated to his realm and his job, hence why Raiden chose him to replace himself as Earth's Protector. Kai, on the other hand, ditched his friends, family, and order, simply because 'he didn't wanna be a monk'.
Personally, I'd take the God of Wind over the Mortal of Suckiness any day.

U sir r exactly right, Fujin is a great character and so much potential (although i think he needs a better look). Kai on the other was just a filler for Lao he was okay gameplay wise but his story lacked, but i did like his tiger stripes.

I was reading a few of the previous posts and just have to say dont assume that his ending about getting the lightning staff is true until it is confirmed, MK endings are notorious of cofusing the hell out of people because some people take all endings as fact.

Between all of the new characters in MK4, I'd rather see Fujin, Reiko, and Tanya come back than Kai, Jarek, Shinnok, or Quan Chi (QC had his chance in DA, let's let another evil guy come in).

There are rumours going around the internet that Tanya and Kai might return to main roster. Franlkly, I would love to see him back, he was the only decent new character in MK4.

If they brought Reiko back, then every guillable fan of MK on Earth would be saying the Shao Khan is back to reclaim his throne, The Reiko/Shao Khan Incident has cemented Reiko as a good for one game character.

Jarek tried to push Sonya over the cliff

They had a very interesting concept sketch of Kai, which makes me wounder if they plan to bring him back in the future as a major part of the storyline or if that was an old sketch for mk4.
