In Konquest mode Kano talks with an aussie accent.
WTF!?! Since when has he been an aussie? Is it because he was played by an aussie actor in the movie?

It is just a voice he has no real voice it isn't like he is real people can make up his voice.
Just like on TV shows the first seaosn the persons voice is one way then the next it is diffrent and it isn't because of aging.

The guy in the movie wasn't really Australian. He just pretended to be I thought. In the movie his accent was strongly British BTW.

Really puts things into perspective, when a teenager pop singer turns out to be the re-incarnation of a german warlord.

In mortal kombat the movie a man named Trevor Goddard played kano, since then he has unfortunaltliy passed away, so boon probably made kano like the movie version as a homage to him. Kano was always my favorite character so when they made him officialy Australian i was very pleased.

Hey, it seems like Boon and Co. forgot that in the MK1 handbook, it mentioned that Kano was born to an American woman in Japan. I guess like death, even nationalities never remain constant in the MK universe.

Being an aussie myself, I must side with sumixam. His accent was definitely british in the movie.

He was brittish born actor with a fake Australian accent in the movie, hence making the character Australian.

I don't see how it's inconsistent. He was born to an American woman in Japan, then from there moved to Australia. Yeah, to pay homage to the MK movie, they're adding more to his backstory, but they're not contradicting it. Hell, it even said in MK1 that Kano is wanted in 35 countries so it makes sense that he's been all over the world.

I always thought he would fit his character just as well, if not better, if he was Scottish. Ya'know, like the steriotypical Scottsman, with a kilt and shit. I could see that.

Japan is pretty close to Austrailia, so there could be something in the backstory that took Kano there.

Well, I'm from New Zealand, and I was always under the impression Kano had an Australian accent. We're talking about the same guy who was on Water Rats, no?

Thank god for the voice of reason. ]{ombat nailed it.
Just because Kano was born to an American woman in Japan doesn't mean he wuold learn to speak Japanese over English or learn perfect English. He's wanted in 35 countries, it's entirely possible he spent a good deal of his life in Australia.
Alot of people don't seem to realize: Accents are acquired, they are NOT genetic.

Very true. I have an aunt who was born and lived most of her life in the US, then about 5 years ago she married an Englishman and moved to England. She now has a quite distinct British accent.
Anyway, Kano's accent in the movie sounds a lot more Aussie than English to me.I guess there's a somewhat fine line between Aussie and Cockney accents. In MKD Konquest, he sounded much more British and not really Austrailian at all, IMO.

The movie accent is 100% pommy (ie British) and 0% Australian. I am Australian, my wife is a British (Kira lookalike) and could probably even say which part of Britain Kano's accent is from.
Cheers.

I am also Australian and the accent is definatly Aussie, not just because I want it to be but because in JAG and Water Rats he played an Australian character with the same accent that he did with the Kano charcater in the movie.
