Katas are not dances, they are compulsory Martial Art exercise performed to rehearse and improve your techniques, spacing, power, and speed.
As for Katas in MKD, i'd like a LOT of them. A LOT.
Soul Calibur 2 was that much better IMO because of all the Katas.

I have a whole thread about Martial arts in general, if anyone is interested.
Capoeira is a Brazilian Martial art/dance, it looks much like dance because it was designed by slaves who were not allowed to fight.
As for Katas in MKDA/MKD, true there were too few, but Katas are generally performed alone, and whatsmore, in open spaces. Thus a Kata designed for a prison cell is nonexistant. However, this is a game, and bending the rules a little is not such a bad thing
And about prerendered vids with 2 kharakters sparring, it would be great if nicely coreographed and available to view at anytime trough extra menus.

I have an idea about the Katas with the OXM Bios, it's that each fighter makes the kata of his favourite fighting style.
Baraka: Blades
Mileena: Mia Chuan
Sub-Zero: Shotokan
Scorpion: Hapkido
Raiden: Nan Chuan
Ermac: Choy Lee Fut?
Sindel: Zha Chuan?
Bo' Rai Cho: Drunken Fist?
Hotaru: Pi Gua?
Nightwolf: Vale Tudo?
Kenshi: Katana?
Ashrah: Choujaio?
Li Mei: Baji Quan?
Kobra: Karate?
Jade or Tanya: Sun Bin?
Kabal: Hookswords?
Thoughts?

o like the commercial for MKDA with scorpion and quan-chi? ya they really should have put that whole video in the krypt in MKDA. it was tight.

The forms (kata) shown in Soul Calibur 1 and 2 were a great bonus.
I think Namco seems to have access to world class martial artists to do the motion capture from and the animators tweak the data to perfection.I'm not sure Midway are at the same level.Has there been any interviews with Boon etc about their research of the styles used for MKD?
They mispelled silat by putting an e on the end (silat is not a style it is an umbrella term for many styles just as "kung fu" is not a style)and spelled "hara kiri" wrong too by spelling it hari kari,so i'm not sure they would bother to get in all the right experts to motion capture for the various kata.
It would be great to see though.I'd love to see a FMV clip as a bonus reward of the characters doing kata or just fighting in full pre-rendered sequences would be fantastic.Hope we don't have to wait til MK7 to see this kind of thing.
Oh yeah, kata can also be performed by 2 people together as in aikido or ninjutsu,in some silat styles they perform a "pentas" basically a 2 person fighting sequence performing full contact with weapons such as machetes, but it would have to be done as a FMV mirror match as only one character has "silate"(silat) as their "style".
100% I want to see FMV forms/kata in MKD!

Me too, damn, i thougt i was the only one that thought that. About Motion capture actors, Carlos Pesina (Classic MK Raydens and mocap on MKDA) is a talented martial artist. At least he says so.

kung fu is spelled gung fu
About Me

Both spellings are "correct" chinese is hard to translate directly.
Agreed, good mocap does'nt make a game, as in Enter the matrix, but it does'nt make it worse either.

kung fu is also spelled gong fu.Chinese is not just one language, cantonese, mandarin, fuzhou etc... so you can have kung fu/gong fu/gung fu etc all meaning the same thing.Different transliterations for different dialects become more popular at different times eg Peking became Beijing...
Back on topic... would be a nice reward to get the FMV forms/kata maybe after finishing the game on harder settings or during Konquest mode when your character acquire a new style, seeing the fmv would represent your character observing and learning the new techniques.Of course first of all we should be given a FMV ending on completing the game on normal difficulty setting.
