Just a quick note on this whole Sub-Zero business:

MK1:
-Sub-Zero I is killed by Scorpion. We see them them fighting in the excellent clip of the intro.

MKII:
-Sub-Zero II, the younger brother, debuts. EVERY game since MK2 featuring Sub-Zero involves the younger brother.*
-Sub-Zero I returns from the dead as a shadow wraith named Noob Saibot.


*(side note: UMK3 / MKTrilogy featured THREE Sub-Zeros; S-Z1/Noob Saibot, S-ZII, and S-ZIII described as a "warrior lost from a previous tournament".)

What I find kinda interesting is that i the initial (badly received) pictures, Sub-Zero is wearing a slightly modified version of his MKII costume. But the latest shot clearly shows him wearing the same costume as Sub-Zero I in the intro; does this mean that

-Both Sub-Zeros ARE in the game (despite S-Z1 being killed BEFORE MKII, and a shot of Noob in circulation?)
-Alternate costumes as mentioned earlier?
-They simply junked the MKII costume in favour of the "new" MK1 one?

Great thread, really looking forwards to Shaolin Monks. Whilst I'm a little peeved at the retconning to MK history taking place- characters looking vastly different (Liu Kang, considering the intro takes place in MK1, Reptile not being human) and Kung Lao being there at the end of the first tournament- you just can't deny that most of the characters are looking pretty damn good at the moment.

wait, so there are 3 Subs? in SHaolin Monks, which Sub-Zero would it be? is SZIII the one with the scar? Whoand where did SZ11 caome from? and SZ1 was the one killed by Scorpion, right?

In MK 2, Sub-Zero's (I, II, or IIIs) little info, it says he returns mysteriously, and Scorpion is now hunting this SZ now... so i bet u will be seeing some little quarrell with Sub-Zero an dSorpion in MK:SM! o wait, that was Scorpions info in MK 2... they r already fihgting in the intro movie for Shaolin Monks, so which sub-zero would that be? The one fihgting in the Intro Movie is the same one that is doing an uppercut.

Comment on pics on page 1, I wondered why Shang Tsung was so old. At first I thought, how can he be old again he just turned younger in MK:DA, but this helps a lot.

I can't see Sonya at all, it's just a blur. Do you got a better image? Same for Kano.

Sub-Zero 1 is Sub-Zero in MK1. He dies in that game.

Sub-Zero 2, the younger brother, the one with the scar, first appeared in MK2. As MKSM is set in the after MK1/during MK2 period, THIS is the Sub-Zero that is featured. His bio in MK2 says he returs mysteriously because, until you access his ending, you (and Scorpion) are meant to think it's actually Sub-Zero 1.

Sub-Zero 3 appeared in UMK3/Trilogy in a blue ninja outfit. He was a one-off and has not appeared since.

Through reading all these posts, I need someone to clarify: Has it been officially announced whether the timeline of this game is just after MK1 and before MK2, or is it after MK1 all the way through the beginning of MK3, or is it all the way through the original Trilogy. I know it's one of the three, and am wondering why so many people keep reffering to SM like it's post-Deception. By the way, the idea of keeping track of all revealed characters is a nice one. Let's keep this thread updated as much as possible. Thanks

The intro movie reveals the battles and events that took place at the END of MK1; therefore the game is set straight after (with Liu Kang being dragged into Outworld), and through the MKII timeline.

I'm not sure if MK3 features in some way- I doubt it, unless the final boss is Shao Kahn as he invades Earth. That might be an awfully long game though, and I get the distinct feeling it's all meant to be set in Outworld.

And I have no idea why so many people seem to think it's in the Deception era; there's been enough talk of "the MKII period"

Well sub zero three is supposed to be classic sub zero" in 3. However, it really makes sense that they just included classic to fill out more characters and he isn't canon in any way, just like human smoke doesn't exist during the time of umk3 but you can still play as him.

Look, the original Sub-Zero pic, the one where he's fighting Lui Kang on the Pit is the same one that does the elbow strike. That first screen is pretty old, all they did was revamp that model into the newer one. That's all. In MK history there were two Sub-Zeros. The one who has been revealed to be Noob Saibot, and the one with the scar that appeared first appeared in MK II are the only two. The one that appeared in UMK3 was the original one, so he's non cannon since he's already dead/ ressurected.

Just my take on the Sub-Zero 3 business (although it's a bit off-topic)

There is no reason the masked Sub-Zero in UMK3 has to be non-canon; he hasn't been stated as non-canon by the MK team either (to my knowledge).

His ending states that he ISN'T even the original Sub-Zero from MK1; it says that, "[although he was thought to be the old Sub-Zero] they [the earth warriors] are shocked to discover his real identity; a warrior long thought lost from a previous Mortal Kombat..."

yea yea yea, i got it lol! but thanks guys, i found the asnwer a while ago... and im guessing that the one that is uppercutting is the younger Sub-Zero, or S-Z 2. even tho "cloneofdan" said that the intro movie would b right FATR MK 1, and that must mean that original Sub was figting Scorpion, but that same Sub is also shown later in the game... but o well, w/e, drop thos Sub-Zero business, its the ounger one in MK:SM, OK? and thats y i made a thread for him, but all these Sub posts go in this forum.... and bak to the topic:

i love everyones new looks! i like how they made the YOUNGER Sub-Zero look too... **POSSIBLE SPOILER** did any of u guys notice the medallion he wears on his belt? it is the same one as in MK:DA! does this mean they screwed up the storyline, or did he get it at this time, but decides to use it later? (maybe sektor stole it from him, they fauhgt for it back, and Sub got it back at the time of MK:DA)

i think they confused it wiv all the sub zeros they should have madeit so in annihailation they resurected the origonal to be good but thats probably in the next film becoz it says they are completly ignoring mk II

Yes reptile looks cool in this game.
it looks like an updated version of pallette swapping, which is nice.
now they just need to make subby and scorpion the same and any other ninja.

I think the ninjas look a bit too "fat". Don't know how to describe it really. But I'm sure they will look better in movement.

I think the guy in the black is Human Cyrax, and the guy next to him is Kenshi, and how do u no kabal is in the game if thats just a sketch. And y dont u replace that scorpion sketch with that picture of him in the trailer in the beginning when he's fighting sub-zero. and I'm all confused about this sub-zero thing. Please somebody explain it very clearly.
