Konquest's Possible Folly...

By now, most of us have read about how one's custom character can choose and learn whatever three fighting stances he/she wishes to learn. Now, that's all fine and dandy, but this means the MK Team now HAS to balance out the fighting styles and fighting engine.
If the fighting styles are horrible unbalanced like the ones in MKDA, you'll only see custom warriors with the same three fighting styles everywhere (Those obviously being the three most overpowering stances in the game), instead of seeing a variety of styles spread out among the masses.
Take MKDA's Scorpion, for example. Most of the fighting styles in the game, compared to his, were chicken scratch. If in MKD, this circumstance were to repeat itself, everyone would have Hapkido, Pi Gua, and Ninja Sword for their custom characters' fighting stances, which would pretty much kill the variety of playstyles online gaming is supposed to provide. Of course, some people would try to break from the mainstream and try to be original, but more times than not, they'll gain a lot of losses, because of the imbalance in the fighting engine and/or between the fighting stances.
This could be the possibly folly of Konquest, if the MKDA fighting engine is only "sped up and tightened", and not heavily improved upon.
But this is the only information we have so far, so...yeah.

There are other good styles in the game besides Scorpion's. But yeah, they should amp up all of the styles as well as have new styles brought in. I have some examples as to how the styles can be more balanced.
Snake can be fast and sneaky with good hand moves and good evasion but it'd be lacking in good kick moves and grappling moves. power should vary in this style.
White Crane can be fluid and graceful with good kicks but lack power and mobility. should have good evasion like in Snake style Kung Fu.
Tiger should be strong and offensive with claw strikes and raking but lack good kick moves. might have a bit of grappling to it.....
Leopard should be fast and emphasize on Leopard paw strikes that should be quick but also lack good kick moves and grappling. should be less powerful than Tiger
Dragon should combine aspects of the other 4 Shaolin animal styles. it should be fast and strong with punches, claw strikes and slashes, elbow attacks, kicks, and some grappling. this should be one of the more hard to master styles in the game.
Hapkido and Ninjitsu can be nearly well-rounded with punches, kicks and grappling (maybe also trapping) but it should be hard to master.
San Shou should be strong and brutal with punches, kicks and throws but it should be relatively slow and not quite that fluid.
Judo and Aikido can emphasize on throwing and locking but not be a great punching and kicking style. They should both be very defensive and lack a good offense.
Shaolin Fist, Kenpo, Shotokan and any other style of Karate should be similar to each other since they are connected. Since Tae Kwon Do has moves from Karate, it should be similar to Shaolin Fist as well.
Shaolin Fist should be fast, fluid, and acrobatic with punches, uppercuts, palm strikes, and kicks but should lack in grappling moves and it should be relatively powerful but not very powerful.
Shotokan should have the speed of Shorin-Ryu Karate and the power of Shorei-Ryu Karate but be a very linear style. Some of its moves should be similar to that of Shaolin Fist.
Tae Kwon Do should emphasize on punches, trapping and kicks (especially kicks) but lack good grappling skills. it should be relatively fast but vary in power.
I don't think that they'll forget about amping up the styles and I hope they don't forget about it.

Here's the thing though. They said you get to choose your fighting styles, but who's to say everyone will be capable of choosing from all the fighting styles. Depending on your character/weapon choice you may not be given the opportunity to choose the 3 better styles mentioned above. So they very well may be able to put limits on what you can choose, but still give you the option of choosing...

yes, but some ppl think reptiles fighting style was the best, and i would never choose that fighting style, ppl are different, i like kung lao and shang sung the best thats just me, i wouldnt use scorps, and shangs weapon is the best
I would say that although the styles are not balanced the way they should be, you can be just about as deadly with any style if you can use it correctly, there are exceptions though.
I think they should work on the styles being simlair to other styles of origin.. so karate styles, will be similair.. However different types of styles with different origins should be completely different. That way at least it will give the styles/characters a little more diversity.
I also agree with more powerful styles should be harder to master, that way you could have styles that overpower others, however they would need to be alot more precise and take more time to learn.

How would that be any different from everyone choosing the same character when he or she is found out to be better than the rest?
The same thing happens with every game.
I'm certain the balance will be a lot better than DA's, but you can never hope for perfection. All it takes is one character having even the slightest advantage over the other, and the players who want to win and nothing but will flock to them.

I agree with Starwinderbeta and as a matter of fact, this thought has crossed my mind as well.
I disagree, however, that in DA Scorpion's fighting styles were all the best. Hung gar and crab, for example, were as good, if not better than hapkido. And staff is a better weapon than ninja sword. There are also special moves that come into play. Would Hsu Hao have been nearly as good without his low throw? Or Scorpion with his hellfire?
Anyway, I also hope that it won't boil down to six or seven styles out of 30 that get chosen over and over because they are better. If Midway doesn't manage to balance that out, it will leave many online players disappointed. I hope they realise that.
Cheers,

Keep in mind also that players won't be able just to hand their custom character the "best" fighting stances. They'll have to track them down in Konquest Mode's six massive world and earn them piece by piece. This should help prevent every half-wit from immediately cranking out cheese-ball characters and tossing them out into the web right away. They'll have to work to earn a powerful character.
