I'm sure that this has been mentioned at least a billion times on this board, but I haven't seen the topic here, so I'll pose the question. Should MK:D have a create a character mode?

Also, if you like the idea, would you prefer it to be something like WWE Smackdown, where you do everything from picking the clothes and moves to the size of noses, tatoos etc? Or would you like it to be something more like Virtua Fighter 4, where you start out with a regular character in the game, give it a name, and do things that get you items like hats, new clothing colors, accessories, etc?

Thoughts on kreate a kombatant in MK:D, yay or nay? Also, do you think the MK team would ever do this?

Dunno but you should give your character a bio aswell to go with it, I wouldn't like restrictions on the feature though you should be able to have everything unlocked from the beginning and you could fight to earn different moves. It would be hard to implement custom Fatalaties though, you could have a number of pre-set ones but where's the fun in that?

Like Virtua fighter.
The other one is too expansive, but you should still be able to change and develop your fighting styles.

like virtua fighter, you start out as a regular fighter on your journey, and as you proceed you come accross different choices, like i dunno joining the lin kuei or something, as you proceed your abilities and look will evolve, like if u join the lin kuei you will be issued with a uniform, but you can edit it to however you want. also you should be given the choice of a race, and every time you make a decision on this quest it should change your bio accordingly.... now this is the ideal thing i would want to see, and i would want to see it in an mk game but the mk games arent at the correct place atm to do that, if i want it done i want it done right and atm i cant see it being achieved.
no i don't like the idea it would take up too much memory
I'd rather see more of the classic characters return
Kreate a Konbatant mode in MKD? Yeh i think that will be pretty cool. If THQ can do it good im damn sure Midway can. As long as the team dont focus on that instead of the more important things

It would rock. The more comprehensive type of the like seen in the wwe games probably takes more effort to make, and the results in that are not as good as the custom made characters for some reason (more generalised models i suppose).

THe thing in VF4 was pretty limited- most of the bizzarre changes you made were just colours, or some tacked on thing like some pots and pans or a miniature tyranasouras strapped to your leg or something.
Nay... but if it is available... only to change Appearance... actually i got a better idea... you have to Unlock a 2nd Alternate costume except its just a version of the fighter that u can Customize its Appearance.. to some extent tho.. so things dont look "Painted On" if u know what i mean.. like in the THQ WWE games

Eh not really... Maybe you can make a different game similar to MK with that involvement... I'd like it to stay how it pretty much is.
It simply couldn't work for a game like this right now. I say *right now because I think when technology becomes greater and more data is able to be stored then we could see something along the lines of a fatality editor. furious

I know that if a create a character mode was added into this it would be just assigning pre-determined moves and fatalities to someone with a pre-determined costume.

I wanna be able to take part in some of the minor detail that sets off MY character from the rest. My logo's, my version of a dragon that goes diagonal across the back of the armor plate that was spiked how I wanna spike it, my fireball thats medium big and has a different colored flare on it that arcs like John Cages only smaller and bounces around toward the opponent leaving burn marks on the ground. Wow that sounds like Glacius doesn't it.. smile

But you get the point..

NAY! Bring me characters, moves, pits, levels and all that original MK content. Just wait til we can just scan our image into a game and model our own clothes. lol

Hey- putting your own face into a game isn't as far off as you might think- you can do it in Tony Hawks and now they're making it more standardised with `digimask` that uses images taken from an eyetoy. I expect the results still aren't as good as custom made models yet, but hopefully we'll be seing it a whole lot more in the near future.

I want to download and decapitate you!

This was suggested before and mu answer is still the same. It's a waste of time is not needed.

Why create a character and a bio for them when their story won't warrant an ending and they would be completely out of place in the game? Also, you'd be giving them moves from other characters and probably the same outfits or some different variations of them and the same Fatalities. In the end all you have is a reccled verison of the other characters. The ones who have a place in the game!

The space for this option is better spent on new characters, secrets, Fatalities or other things that will help MKD. This option is not needed at all!

NO.Because that would destroy the essence of MK.

I would rather play a WWE game then.sad

Nay here also. It cuts into the quality for the other features, unless Midway makes use of the HDD. However this takes away the story-line which MK is based on. Now customizing an existing character would be better. Changing the mask/clothing that scorpion wears to a more Hellish costume (horns and Spikes)would be great. Or changing the type of weapon.

Hmm...I'm not sure a mode like this would take up an absorbitant amount of memory, but who knows. As for a mode like this going against or interfering with the story, I don't see how that would happen either. You just make a character, give them a bio, and make them part of the story in an artificial sense.

Wouldn't you rather have 500 koffins filled with create a character stuff, and 176 filled with hidden characters, alt outfits, DVD content, etc? If the MK team gave a good list of stock weapons, clothing etc, then I think it would work well. Everything from shoulder pads, masks, scars, capes, coats, beard types, pants and boots to a few stock fighting styles where you can add or take out moves, add special moves from a stock of about fifty or so.

In all honesty, I don't think an option like this would happen in MK, or any other fighting game for a while. But I think it could later on down the line. How cool would it be to create your own characters that look and play like characters from past games, or characters like the Dragon King if he isn't in MK:D or having a guy that looks like you in there? Just a thought. I'd vote yay on it if it had all that I described here, but nay if they did it in some crappy way like the stupid items in Virtua Fighter or if it took away from the graphics and deepness of the characters/fatalities.
Yea.. DVD content. Woo!
i vote.......yay i think that would be a very cool idea, i always liked being able to choose my moves and what my guy looked like

i know in some games that have like create your own taunt and stuff, itd be VERY cool (and probably very hard/confusing) to make ur own fatality

It would be pretty cool.If they do add it I hope it isnt hard to make a charcter like in the EA Big games or the new NBA Jam.They should have it the same way it was with NBA Hangtime's create a player option that was easy to use plus you didnt have to work for all those attributes.

Hate the idea. It wouldn't feel like a true MK game, if you can just make your own character. That's more for the happier games like VF, and Soul Calibur... leave that out of MK, and i'll be even happier.

Nay. MK has a special "tang" to it which no other fighter has ever been able to compete with. Mortal Kombat's atmosphere is just extremely dark, yet not really gothic or anything. It has an ancient, yet modern feel. I think adding a system such as customization would made this beautiful atmosphere... what's the word I'm thinking of... oh yeah, bland.

Why all the "nay's" due to storyline? No one says the customized fighter has to have a role or story... He/she could just be in the tournament to fight. What's so wrong with that? It's not like the customized character has to be in all the latter Mortal Kombats as well. If you say nay, it shouldn't be due to storyline. At least I HOPE you wouldn't be that ignorant. :)

Why A lot of nay sayers you ask?? I'm not going to speak for all of the nay's but I will speak IMO, I am a diehard fan of MK, and what attracted me to it was when I was standin there reading the intro storyline and the description of characters. Granted the blood, guts, and FATALITY!! was the true eye-opener, but the storyline is the reason I came back for MK2, 3, 4 and so on... If you read the beginning of the MK bible, I was no different than that person. No other game could compare, the only game that I can remember coming close was Killer Insticnt but that did not have much of a storyline, not as deep as MK. Yes K.I. started pulling me away from MK but when the next one hit arcades I was back to MK. Once again there was no other game like it.

Now I agree adding in kreate a Kombatant would be a good idea. But MK is in it's own catagory. A lot fo games out now have the create a character feature. Now earlier someone doesn't think that this feature does not reduce some of the other features. Let's look at WWE Smackdown JBI not a whole lot of create a character selections there was enough to include freeroaming back stage, now WWE HCTP has a lot more create a char. content and a menu to got to a select few rooms on the building. Take that same scenario and put it in MKD you kick someone out of the ring and a menu pops up asking which room next and you are there instead of the cinematic of your opponent falling to the next room, which would you prefer? A lot of people including me would like to see narrated FMV endings instead of narrated pictures to continue the story, with Kreate A Kombatant Kontent included chances are we are stuck with narrated pictures again.

Let's Keep MK in its own Catagory.

No,

because doesn't matter how hard they try, they will never be able to give us the list of special moves-fatalities that we want to see. The game would become a joke. For other games with sucky fighters and characters its alright, but not for Mortal Kombat.
