Are they Shaolin monks or did they train in just the Shaolin fighting arts?

I thought the shaved head is for those who become monks,Jet Li had a shaved head in photos and video during his time at Shaolin temple but now he has hair and still has the fighting skills...maybe it's the same for Kung Lao and Liu Kang.And anything's possible in a game.
