Kwan Dao / Do ?

posted11/30/2004 10:18 PM (UTC)byI recently discovered what appears to be a blooper in MK:D . I didn't notice it until now, but if you play as Sindel during regular Kombat, you'll notice her weapon is called the "Kwan Do" . However, in her ending, it is spelled "Kwan Dao" . Has anyone else noticed that ? It's not a big deal or anything ... shoot, I prolly would have made the same mistake if I were on the team, but I just thought it was interesting .

I noticed this glitch too. Hopefully someone knows which is the right spelling.

Hey Dan!
Yup ur right, it was pronounced Kawn Dao in the ending. But why are there two different spellings. Does anyone know the true spelling or correct name for Sindel's weapon?

that is no error: Kwan Dao and KWan Do is the same in the meaning of the weapon. The only difference in them is that one is pronounced in mandarin, and the second in cantonese.
Chinese words/symbols may have over a hundreds of meanings.

They (MK Team) should have kept it consistant so people wouldn't get confused.

I agree . They should have stayed consistent . I prefer "Dao" to "Do" simply because of the way it's said . It's not a big deal, really . It's just something I noticed .

What does Dao mean BTW? Becuase theres are Loads of Dao's in this game. Luchion Dao (sp) Li Mei's Sword, Autumn Dao, Dariou, and one of the stage weapons if i remember correctly. Does it mean sword?

I believe Kwan Dao is a more proper way to say it. If you look up Kwan Do on the google image search it comes up with tae kwon do. I think the english translation is Kwan Do and the chinese translation is Kwan Dao.
I will soon own one!!!

I got the meaning from a Wushu Dictionary
>>Dao<<
The Symbol:

Meaning:
means broadsword, sabre, single edged curved blade
>>Dao/Da<<
The Symbol:

Meaning:
means Haleberd, big cutter. A Haleberd is simply a single edged curved blade with a large wooden Staff attatched. It looks like Hotarus Naginata and of course like Sindels Kwan Dao.
As far as I know this weapon was used by Women though...
When their husbands where in war, or couldn't defend the house anyway, the women protected themselves with these haleberds. This wapon is not that hard to handle and is kinda impressive.
Major targets where, afaik, the legs and eye region.
Don't hurt me, if this isn't true ^^
The Word >>Do<< means, as far as i know, Way or Art.
Tea kwon DO, doesn't have anything to do with swords or blades.
Or JuDO, KenDO, Jeet Kune DO....
I don't know exactly.
