First of all, If another thread or idea like this has already been posted(and it probably has), then I apologize in advance for cluttering up the forum. That being said...

I have a theory that MK Deception could very well be Liu Kang's swan song. Now, he doesn't necessarily have to die, but it may very well be his final appearance.

Most of us have now seen or at least read about the intro for MKD. We know that Shujinko is somehow responsible, or at least thinks he is responsible, for the return of the Dragon King. We also know that Shujinko believes that he alone has the power to defeat the Dragon King.

We know that Shujinko is a chosen warrior of the Elder Gods(at least I remember that being stated somewhere, I could be wrong), and it was also stated in Shujinko's video bio by Ed Boon that he is "the next generation Liu-Kang"(despite the fact he's already an old man and Liu is still relatively young.WTF??)

Liu Kang was no match for the Deadly Alliance, who in turn were no match for the Dragon King even with Raiden's help. Seeing as how Shujinko believes that he can defeat the Dragon King, it's logical to assume that he is a much stronger warrior than even Liu Kang, who up to this point was the undefeated champion of the first four MK games.

It looks to me like Shujinko is here to replace Liu Kang as the "hero" of the Mortal Kombat series, and that they brought Liu Kang back in Deception as a way of giving him a dignified final appearance.(as opposed to getting his neck snapped in an opening FMV sequence.)

I think that Liu Kang's purpose in this game is to pass the torch to Shujinko. I don't know if he is meant to die (again) or simply retire from the world of Mortal Kombat, but it may very well be his final appearance. Or not.

And yes, I do know that this IS Mortal Kombat and that dead characters have an annoying habit of coming back to life...

Anyway, your thoughts. Good theory, bad theory, insanely stupid theory? Post away.

I agree. I think this game is Liu Kang's final game, he's bowing out at last and gracefully. His resurrection is temporary. It gives Liu Kang the respect he deserves, even though I never liked him.

C'ya Liu. :)

good theory..but it might also be possible that shunjinko doesnt have the "Physical" powers to destroy the dragon king..it seems to me he released him in some certain way..and might use a tactic or some sort of spell to lock him back up in that egg..personaly i dont think shunjinko has that kind of power to begin with... Sub-zero on the other hand should b/c hes got the DK's amulet and hes got an elemental power.. so in my theory I just think that shunjinko has a way to lock the DK back up again..but physical hand to hand fight I doubt.. Regaurdless of his training from all mk warriors he cannt be stronger then raiden shang and quan put together.. not saying its impossible.. Scorpion, sub-zero can prolly beat those 3..but i mean cmon there not gonna beef up a new character that much..

I think you're probably right about Shujinko not having the physical power to defeat the Dragon King. It does seem a bit unrealistic that Shujinko is so much stronger than everyone else that he alone can take the Dragon King. The Dragon King probably just has a hidden weakness that only Shujinko knows about.

However, I do still believe that Liu Kang's days are numbered...

I think liu will pass the torch, only when he fights shujinko and feels he can trust him, and pass his wisdom to him, including making sure to catch him up on recent events! remember, this dude was out of the loop in the times he was in places other than earthrealm and outworld, so i feel secondgen is correct, i think the ultimate fighting style you can learn in konquest liu's.

Liu Kang was the chosen champion to fight Shao Kahn and win Mortal Kombat. Shujinko is the Elder God's chosen warrior to defeat the Dragon King. Once the Dragon King is gone, I don't believe there will be a need for Shujinko to be our new champion. Boon said "our next generation Liu Kang" to give the fans something to compare Shujinko with. But we don't know how long this will last exactly. Besides since Shujinko is a costumizable character, how is that going to work with future Mortal Kombats? Are we going to have to go through Konquest every time to play as OUR OWN Shujinko? I personally don't think so. My guess is that Shujinko will only be in Deception, or until the Dragon King is defeated.

I agree with you completely. As soon as I heard Liu Kang was coming back I theorized it was to give him a proper sending off. We shall miss him, but at least his death will no longer be a 2-on-1 copout.

yea.. I don't hate Liu Kang, but he isn't my first choice in a MK game either, but nobody deserves to have a final appearance getting his neck snapped.. I'm glad that they are bringin him back.. but this will be his last game in my opinion.

Liu Kang's spirit might fuse with him and make him young again.
