After reading about Sony's new HDD, I immediately thought about the impact it would have on games like MK:D. Has anyone heard anything about MK:D possibly using the HDD?

LOL you people have computers but don't know what a HDD is.That's pretty funny.Anyway I just went and picked up FFXI with the HDD.I'm sure most new games will support it,but along terms of MK.D,I dunno. It may be used for just saves,or since it will be online it may have downloadable content later on,i.e. socom 2's new online maps.

The HDD is the Hard Disk Drive that Sony is putting out. It comes packaged with Final Fantasy XI or whatever number they're on now. It's a 40 Gigabyte Hard drive that attaches to the back of the network adapter and holds downloaded content. I think that this would be great if the MK team were to utilize it.

I was under the impression that the HDD only worked with FF10000xyz. Am I right? Or can you download whatever you want onto it?

The HDD has many possibilities. I think that alot of games will be using it in the future. I could be mistaken, but I think I heard something about the new Grand Tourismo using it. I don't see why MK wouldn't take advantage of it. After all, it was Ed Boon that said that he and the MK Team would use the strength's of the separate systems to their advantage. For PS2 owners, this is definitely a strength.

I've been going on about this for the past 2 weeks about how MK could benefit from the HDD. In all reality the life span of this game could be infinitely increased. We could download new arenas, new characters, moves, fatality's, costumes, new accessories for our konquest guys. The possibilities are really endless. The HDD will be fully up and operational very soon and it would almost foolish for Midway not to use it to the benefit of MK. Not to mention if the game has glitches you could easily download a "patch" to fix them.

Would I use it? Hell yes! Will Midway use it? Quite possibly.

I think with the whole online thing there would be a chance to download extra stuff but only time will tell i guess
This would be the wise thing to do..

They have SIX MONTHS TO IMPLEMENT THIS!

The X Box only has I think 8 Gigs of memory in it. I'm not too sure on that number but it's nowhere close to 40 gigs. X Box would have to come out with their own HDD.

Not at all, FFXI comes with the HDD drive as a package deal because of the fact that right now it is the only game that uses it. But there are already plans to use it with Socom 2 I know for sure. We're merely discussing possibilities relating to MK:D :)

I already installed my hdd, and tryed mkda since its the most recent version of mk, and the loading times are slightly better, however, the future looks interesting for the hdd, and if mk6 were to come out, my hdd can handle it no problem.

As [shaokhan] said, the xbox already has a HDD. It will definetly be used in MK6 for whatever reason. But as far as the PS2 version, i don't think that it will be used as it's not a standard part of the PS2 system (as i stated in another thread).

xbox has about 10 gigs. it's more than enough. name me anyone who's even came close to using all of the xbox's hdd.
I really hope Midway uses this feature... It would DEFINITELY PUT THEM AHEAD OF ALL fighting games out now...

I hope that they make downloadable content as well.

It would be really kool to DL updates that add additional Easter Eggs to the game. (New costumes, new fatalities, maybe even new characters) Of course you'd just get the patch, not any info on where to unlock the stuff.

Online play would become even more like the good ol' arcade days. "Wow, how'd you do that!!" etc..

However, if downloadable content is produced on a regular basis, online fees will probably follow.
Online fees....

*Shudders at the thought*

That would be a way to ENSURE that this game only has its small diehard fan base...

Thats the entire lure of the game!

To charge for online play would KILL half the reason OTHER people would even pick it up in an instant!
