Hi,

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I'm hoping somebody can help me with MKD for Gamecube. I've only just started playing it and I am having a really hard time getting fatalties to work. I've played through all the MK game except MC VS DC and the newest one, but I have never had so much trouble pulling off finishers. I know about the distance thing, but I can't even get "close range" ones to work and these should be easy.

I've tried using both the controll pad and the analog stick. I'm not sure what the problem is. Any tips you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Maybe it is a timing issue, I'm not sure.

I only paid $9 for the game and I'm enjoying it, but MK without finishers just doesn't seem right.

Please, be as descriptive as you like. Any Gamecube players especially. If you can get these to work , please tell me how. I can get one to fire off once in a while, but it is like a 2 times out of 40 type thing.

Thanks in advanceconfused

Did your try to switch to where you can do the Fatality without moving? Its by pressing L1.

I have it for Gamecube as well and I never really had any trouble pulling off the finishers. I mainly used the analog stick, though I think for Fatalities I would use the d-pad.

Speed-wise it should be about the same speed as any special move.

This would help for sure if it turns out to be a distance issue.

Maybe try practicing it with one of the simpler input Fatalities? Goro's Back, Back, Forward, Foward, A at close range is pretty easy.

Thanks for the replies, but I still can't seem to make them work. For Goro, would it back, back, forward, forward and then a or would you hold forward and also press A. I've tried both and neither way seems to work. I don't have any trouble at all with special movies, but finishers are not happening for me for some reason sad

Did you buy it used? Because that is likely the problem if it is.

Yes, I got it used at Gamestop for $9. Why would that be a problem. Everything else seems to run just fine. Is there maybe a setting I can mess with?

You press A after the last forward command, yes.

And the fact that it's used is not a problem.

Is the Blood setting in the options menu set to anything but Max?

Blood is set to Max. When I get home in the morning (working until 7am) I'll try and clean the disk, just in case. It could be a case of my fat sausage fingers not interacting well with the GC's tiny d-pad.

I guess I'll just keep trying. The deathtraps are cool anyway. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks all

The d-pad on the GameCube is pretty bad. I bought an adapter that lets me use my PS2 controller on the GameCube and I use it for Deception all the time.

PS2-to-GameCube Adapter

I bought one of these last summer and another one last month because I wanted a second one. I use them on the GameCube version of Deception as well as the Wii version of Armageddon. I have a Classic Controller Pro for the Wii but the d-pad on the PS2 controller is still better.

Other than the awkward GameCube controller, the only reason why Fatalities wouldn't be working is that you aren't the correct distance away. With Deadly Alliance it didn't matter where you inputted the commands (as long as they were entered correctly) but with Deception they brought back the Fatality distance.

Just an example Kira's first Fatality requires you to be across the screen for it to work. If you're too close it's never going to trigger even if you input the correct command. And vice-versa. Her second Fatality requires you to be a couple steps away. It won't work if you're all the way across the screen even with the correct button input.

As others have said make sure you hit the "L" button to go into the "Fatality" stance once you get the correct distance away/toward your opponent so your character will stand still instead of moving out of position.

Position yourself correctly, style change into your "Fatality" stance, and input the command. You don't have to hit it super fast.

^^ Its a poor swordsman who blames his blade. The Game cube dpad is small but not that bad. The real trick to pulling fatalitys is not to "roll" the pad. when you press back back you pick up your tumb between the presses, but i am willing to bet you doing pull your tumb off the pad to switch to the forward. My best advice is pick your finger up off the d-pad before between each press.

The second bit of advice is take your time. You do not have to input the fatalitys code as fast as you might think.

Finaly, use the "fatality stance". while you dont have to use the stance to do the fataliy, it helps by keepping your fighters feew still.

^^ Nah the GameCube's d-pad just sucks. :)

In fact the GameCube was one of the worst controllers in history. I love my GameCube and whatnot but that thing was horrible for fighting games.

I don't understand why Nintendo and Microsoft can't make a good d-pad. Sure Sony's not the best, but the d-pads on the PS1, 2, and 3 are way better than anything d-pad Microsoft or Nintendo ever put out.
