Looking over the revised cast for this game, I feel it is safe to say that this is the most appealing cast in a Mortal Kombat game (at least, in my opinion).
When MK: Deadly Alliance came out, I was more then ellated. Yet, playing the game gave me little satisfaction in the area of players, who they were, what they did, their story, etc. Seeing as this was a Next Generation game, a little more should have been given to this department, and I would have liked it on a higher level if they had! Though a wide variety of casting, my interest in playing as certain characters, even classic ones, was not to my liking.
Then it comes to Mortal Kombat: Deception. Very interesting indeed, no? I believe bringing back all the "fan-favorites" has given the franchise the boost it needs to propell it to the PS3, XBOX2, and the like. Again, a wide variety of characters, and very appealing altogether. Heh, a lot of the characters brought back, I didn't even like in the old games! Yet, in this game, I find them appealing enough to give them the spot as my favorite.
NIGHTWOLF- Hated him in MK3 (my big sister loved him
), yet he looks cool enough now to be a valuable warrior... and I can't wait for that axe!
SINDEL- Didn't like her at all... she kicked my ass!
And that hair throw of hers always pissed me off! But now, she looks awesome and seems worthy to play as in MK:D.
KABAL- My most hated character of all time... I never liked anything about this warrior (Stupid hookswords!), but now I am intrigued by him in the 3D realm.
ERMAC- ALWAYS LOVED HIM!!! My favorite UMK character... possibly most favorite of all time! He rules!
So see? As MK:DA's characters seemed dry and useless, MK:D's characters seem like they have enough put into them to wet our whistle for a while! (Even though I despised them in other games!)

I think you're right! I loved Nitara, Quan and Kung Lao, but the rest seemed bland. With this line up, we have old favorites to choose from. Although I wish Nitara made it in.

Hehe, I do too! Nitara was awesome and very resourceful. You know, she was the only character I could beat DA with on the Max difficulty level? Albeit, it was kind of cheap- I just kept blood-sucking, but if the game engine wants to do the same long combos over and over on me... then I'm gonna fight dirty too! (lol)

Meh, not necessarily. None of the new characters, save Ashrah, really interest me and as far as "returning favorites" go, only ones I like are Kabal, Nightwolf, and Li Mei. Plus I just can't be bothered to give a rat's ass about the Dragon King as I don't find him all that interesting.

Lol, coolness, I'm glad I can see your honest side
Noktis, I have to agree that Trilogy has an outstanding cast... but mainly because it's every character in MK history and plus

I think this is the best cast since MK2. I have to admit I don't know why characters like Sindel, Noob, Smoke, Nightwolf, and Ermac are back, because I always thought they were really weak designs and just throw away characters, but somehow this game still seems to have a great cast, and since those characters all seem very popular, I'm glad with the choice to include them.
Also, Mileena, Jade, Tanya, Scorpion...awesome

I have mixed feelings about this cast.
In my opinion this cast was assembled only to cater to those who whine about their one-time favorites from MK3 not appearing in any other game. There's too many characters in this game that just weren't important enough to the overall story, nor do they have any significant character development, to matter in MKD. I hope characters like Nightwolf and Kabal have a good reason for returning. I don't want to play a game full of characters that have endings like 'Soandso came to the call of battle. He/she fought bravely. He/she defeated (insert nemesis). He/she went home.'
IMO the cast is far from the most appealing. It has some eye-candy characters and old favorites, sure. But are they important enough to the series to warrant being the game's main cast? Let's hope they develop them enough to be.
Here's how I feel about some of the characters:
Jade: Awesome. Welcome back. Always wanted to see her make a big comeback.
Tanya: Crap. A poor, uninteresting and boring MK4 filler character. Needs alot of development to be of any importance at all.
Nightwolf: Good. Glad to see him back, I liked him because everyone else hated him.
Kabal: Eh, Ok. I thought he was dead, but no one stays dead in MK. Hope he's developed well.
Sindel: Great. A one-game wonder but at least she is important to the story and events. A welcome comeback.
Ermac: Eh.... He was just one of many pallete swaps from UMK3, though he was pretty bad ass, and his look in MKD is excellent. MKDA gave him some purpose, so I'd like to see what they have in store for him now. Otherwise...I would've picked someone else.
Noob Saibot: Eh.... GBA MKDA made him a crucial character to the plot. Lets see how he develops. Otherwise he's just another pointless pallete swap turned unique character with no backstory.
Baraka: Outstanding. So glad to see him back after that dismal MKGold. Looks like he factors big into the story too, which is OK in my book.
Mileena: Great. Very happy to see her make a big come back as a crucial plot character.
So in essence i'm rather disappointed in some characters but very happy to see others back. The rest i'm strictly 'meh' towards. I'm glad that at this point, it seems Sonya and Jax are gone, i'm sick of them, and its great to see some of the one game wonders return, I just hope they can factor them into the story well enough.
of course now i'll probably be flamed for having my own opinion on these characters, but whatever.

Good points shang_heihachi. I see your reasoning behind your likes and dislikes ect. Actually, they make a lot of sense to me. There are a lot of seemingly useless MK3 characters and others who don't seem like they will have a good story so far are not needed for the game. Though if you look at how the stories went in MK:DA, we might as well give up on any good story-line, huh?
lol... uhmmm, sleepy...
