My brain hurts.
Well for some it's their trademark color ,it lets you immediately identify who they are. As for people in normal clothing they are usually identified by their face or other prominent features.

The ninjas are certain colors for these reasons:
Sub-Zero is blue because ice is cold, blue almost always represents cold
Scorpion was originally Yellow to mock the Lin Kuei. He's still yellow because other colors are taken.
Reptile is green because blue and yellow make green,I say that because in MK he was a combo of Sub and Scorp.simple only after did he actually turn out to be a reptile.
Smoke is grey, because Smoke is grey.
Noob is a shadow because hes a Brother of the shadow
Rain=purple rain song by Prince
Ermac is red 'cause of the red Scorpion"ERror MACro"glitch

Since their faces aren't consistent from game to game, the color helps to identify them. It's the same with superheroes. Their constumes are more important than their faces, and some of them have the same powers.

I get cage's giant kangaroo!!!!!

Hehehe... I like the power rangerr colors.... plus, it only applies to SOME characters... baraka sometimes is green, red, brown, black, (his pants... of course...) and shang has changed from purple to black and yellow, to red...

I mean, if scorpion was red, it woldn't be scorpion1!! it would be ermac! And that would be confusing!!!

I don't think so at all. Many video game characters retain the same colors, and it's fine with me. Color is how people identify these characters, and there is nothing wrong with that. And besides, most of the characters in MKD have had major appearance overhauls, and look much different from any previous incarnation. So having the same color seems just fine, as long as they aren't put in the same outfits they had 10 years ago.

Personally I think they shouldn't be so extremely anal with the whole colour-coding thing, as they've pretty much painted themselves into a corner, design wise. A few characters broke out of the mold though, Sonya for instance changed both the colour and style of her outfit by not wearing a green/black aerobics outfit in MKDA, and I think that's a step in the right direction (I haven't seen anyone complaining, either). If they'd give each character a 'retro' outfit, then sure, fine by me. But I still want to see some more innovation and evolution in the character designs.

In Tekken for instance, and to some extent Soul Calibur, you can tell a LOT more about the characters from what they're wearing, than you could ever in MK; The story and personality - the essence - of each character is reflected in their outfit. Now, I'm sure abandoning the colour-coding wouldn't make a radical change in the philosophy behind the character designs in MK, but it would give a lot more room for innovation and interesing ideas.

I'd love to see Scorpion in a black and/or brown ninja getup... Jax, Sonya, Kenshi and Cyrax in a Special Forces uniform... Johnny Cage in a karate gi, or a yellow/black 'Game of Death' style jumpsuit... Liu Kang and Kung Lao in orange shaolin robes... etc, etc. But as long as everyone's stuck in the 'colour-coding' mindset, it won't happen. :/

Ever since VH1 did I love the 90's thinking of the original power rangers bring back so many memories, at the time they kicked ass! (and I'll admit I kept watching the show far longer than I should have) Comparison between Mortal Kombat and the rangers doesn't work well, because the Ranger's changed colors sometimes! Hell Tommy was the green ranger (my favorite when I was ten! GO DRAGONZORD!) then he became the white ranger! And Jason was the red ranger and then years later came back to be the gold ranger for a little while. But Sub-zero has and always will be blue!

Wow I don't know if all that^ is impressive or sad, I'm twenty years old and I remember all that stuff like it was yesturday....

The only valid comparison I can think of between Mortal Kombat and Power Rangers is that in 1993 both were cited as "violence in the media" that should be banned to protect 'the children'. At the time, I could think of a thousand better reasons to ban the power rangers, but it would take more than a ban to seperate me from my MK. wink

So what you are telling me is that you find it ridiculous that the red ranger always ends up wearing red? What, do you think he should wear a deep purple or something? Anyway...

I don't think they should change any of the colors.

I think we are "Rank 1 fans": So we know MK story deeply, and played all games more than a hundred times. There are "Rank 2 fans": my brother for example. He likes Mortal Kombat, and he knows most of the characters (he may not know Kai or Fujin). And his favorites are Scorpion and Sub Zero, like most of the MK fans.

My point is: if "Rank 2 fans" play MK and say it sucks cause characters just arent themselves anymore, this'll be bad.

.............Its the same thing for those who would like SubZero and Scorpion not to be in further games... I guess Mortal Kombat will lose like 35% of their fans. What Boon's team is doing is they keep them in and keep improving their look and thats the thing to do. Fatality.
