If anyone wants to add on here, feel free.

I miss playing a bunch of games and having an event or character pop up to fight you and you basically wet yourself, saying "holy crap! Who's that??"
I miss just starting a fight and having some new hidden character pop up saying weird stuff, then leaving.
I miss surprising stage fatalities, or heck, stage fatalities in general.
I miss having at most four choices on how to finish someone
I miss everyone having their own winning pose.
I miss that dark, wicked sounding note that sounded as Shao Kahn said "Fatality" in arcade MK2.
I miss the screen going dark, getting ready for a finisher, and then Scorpion pulls out a doll and the screen says "Buy a Scorpion Doll!"
I miss the FINISH HIM screen coming up, turning your opponent into a baby, then laughing at your opponent because you never used the Block button once.
I miss female fighters having realistic bra sizes, not having rediculously sized breasts that bounce like water balloons.
I miss Toasty.
I miss the Pit 2.
I miss different variations of the same fatality if I hold certain buttons down (Cage's 3 head decap and Scorps Toasty)
I miss secrets that actually make the game itself interesting and deeper.
I miss having a ? on the destiny screen, and going nuts trying to figure out what it is and how to get to it.
I miss the days where the media did NOT know everything and spilt the beans before the game was even out.
I miss the VS screens.
I miss the crowd in the arena cheering everytime I got the crap beaten out of me.

Guess that's it for now...just in a nostalgic mood I guess. Anyone else have anything?

yea, me 2. MKDA is a great game but its missing something that the earlier MKs had. I was more excited with MK1 and MK2 when fatalitys and wierd sh*t happened. MKDAs secret characters were not exciting to unlock. I was like, great i got jax, now...who else is there to unlock.

I definately miss the mystery person question mark box, I miss secret characters, I miss the outworld living forest(Where Smoke or Jade would hide behind), I miss the pit fatalities, I miss Goro's lair where these yellow eyes shine in the background, I miss Kintaro(He's the baddest Shokan out of all 3 Shokans), I miss upper-cutting someone through the ceiling, and I miss Shao Kahn.

I know exactly what you mean. I miss all the mystery, darkness, and surprises too. That's what made the earlier games so fun to play even years after they came out. I think that if MK doesn't go back to all that mystery and darkness, and the feel of danger and violence around every corner, that it just might die. As much as I hate to say it, I think it's true. Apparently we all miss the same things. So if they don't start doing them again, eventually we won't buy the games. And if we don't buy the games there can't be any MK.

You know what I miss? The point of all this rambling. I don't miss all of these types of posts though, can't you people accept the future? Things must change sometimes, if every game had those same features in it, there would be no diversity between the games. What about Konquest mode, or the Krypt? The other games didn't have those. Can't you just be happy with what you have instead of making a huge lists of things you don't have?

Was konquest mode really something to brag about?
That was just a waste.Pull of this combo, pull off that sequence, hey i get 100 ruby coins for doing that. It was pointless. I could hvae just practiced those combos in practice mode.

Well, if you're missing the point, then , sorry. I thought the title said it all. Hey, I never said MKDA wasn't good. It was great, and IS great. However, there is no denying that it is missing a lot of the subtle (and not so subtle) things that made past MKs so great and replayable.
Come on, tell me you don't miss things like special hidden characters you have NO idea how to get to appearing between your two fighters before the fight, talking trash, then disappearing?

How can the older MKs possibly have more replay value than MKDA? Every character had the same moves, other than their specials. Fatailies were nothing to brag about really, some were very VERY stupid in fact. What about Lui Kang dropping an arcade machine, that wasn't cool at all. Or smoke blowing up the world, it was just pointless I think. I would rather have one good fatality than a couple of sub-par ones. I'm not saying MK6 shouldn't have more fatalities, because it should now that they have a great fighting engine.

And as far as me missing secret characters, well sure I guess. But think about it, all Smoke and Noob were were Scorpion clones. Jade was just a Kitana clone. I like those characters, but I think MK is going in the right direction, and I don't think the absence of the things mentioned make me think MKDA is missing something.

u thought MK2 fatalities were stupid, just look at some of MKDAs. Jax jumps on your head, lei mei somehow kicks her foot through your stomach, and drahmin just bangs your head down into your body, and quan chi's neck strech. They were the dumbest sh*t i ever saw. Not saying that MKDAs was all bad. Half of the fatalities were decent, had great gameplay and graphics, but the thing that makes Mortal Kombat great is the fatalities, and they were poorly done in MKDA

i agree with every one. i especially miss the uppercut and going through the ceiling. Sub-07 i agree it is a great game and crow that is some f*cked up sh*t that you didnt like the originals. did you even play them? the reason why they had the same move was to make it even (except the bosses). Now some one has to hit a couple of button and your life is half gone. plus some of the combo's are so freaking hard i am surprized if you could pull them off. i miss a lot of the characters too. especialy sektor, with his guided/heat seeking missle. i miss the infamous BRUTALITIES! those were the sh*t! i feel the same way, ya know old skool. peacesad

Where in the hell do you see in my posts that says I didn't like the older MKs?! I said it was stupid it try and say that MK2 had better gameplay than MKDA. And I said that some of the fatalities were stupid, like in all the games. Not every one of them can be perfect. Anyway, I personally thought MK2 and MKT were better than MK4 was. But Deadly Alliance is by far the best. I have been a Mortal Kombat fan since the series began, and I feel that MK has always been one step ahead of the competition. The other MKs were the best in their day, but MKDA is the best now. And I am sure MK6 will be even better. So don't put words in my mouth unless you know what the hell you are talking about.

YEAH! u r right especially abut SECRETS. Nowadays, all the secrets are revealed easily and they r pretty bad.

I MISS:

-VS screen.
-Hidden characters (hard to get).
-Strange effects (Toasty...).
-Cheering crowd (very important).
-2 or more fatalities & STAGE fatalities (Pit2...).
-Superb music (like in MK2 awesome music, especially the introduction).
-VIDEOS (like in MK4, just GREAT).

MK2 is simply the BEST

MK's earlier secret characters were clones, but you felt you had achieved something. "Wow, I just totally beat this dude named 'Reptile'."

I miss the darkness of the series as well. The atmosphere of the games after MK3 was too ho-hum. With Liu Kang, there was no suspense over Earth finally losing, and Outworld taking its place. You knew the story ended with a nice catch-all Liu Kang win. THAT's why I support the idea to kill him off, because he was boring. MK4 did bring us Quan Chi, but he's always a lackey--therefore, his character doesn't come off like a powerhouse as Shao Kahn or Goro did in the earlier games.

Even with all that complaining, I think MK6 will be the return of a darker MK tone, as the Dragon King and an invincible army seems like a cool plot idea.

Man.. You said it all. I am feeling everything you said too. MK2 and Trilogy, simply the best!! But I will not give up on MKs future, just yet. I guess I am expecting a future MK game with the MKDA graphics but with a sort of compilation of all MK games(: characters, moves, secrets, etc.). It's ok to add more to a new MK game, but not take away from it (:characters, moves, secrets, etc.). You know what I mean?

Skaven13, hey you souldn't get depressed over all this. I think that 4 out 5 people will miss something about the older mk. But to help cheer you up. I've been reading some of these web sites that have held discussions in the past. Some of witch Ed Boon or someone else (I can't remember the guys name "sorry") talking about releasing a Mortal Kombat Kollection. It'll have some of the mk if not all like mk1, mk2, mk3 and so on. I haven't found alot of info yet. As for as a release date there isn't one set as far as I know. I hope this would cheer up all up! PEACE

Hey, not depressed at all! MKDA is absolutely incredible. Just stating some of the things from the past that, IMO, if added to future games, would really enhance the "feel" and maybe the features, making an incredible game even better. It's just a lot of those features I mentioned that keep me coming back to the classics.
Leroi, I totally agree with everything you just said. With Liu Kang gone, there is definitely a feel of uncertainty, especially with a seemingly awesome power such as the Dragon King returning. MK6 should be interesting indeed!

Really That would be really coooool to get all the MK games for my PS2. I would absolutly love it!!!!!
I have wished for that for a really long time.
I would really like it though if the future games kept all characters and then added new cool ones, and don't forget secret, I mean really secret characters!!! Characters that are so wicked they just kick your ass and f@#k you up before you know what even happend!!! Like Reptile in the first arcade game. He was a fast mofo!!!!

to be honest the only thing i miss is the game in 2D and the photo realistic characters(just think how real they can make em look now),in mk6 i think they should bring back the 2D feel cuz it'll enable all the moves that they had to take out for mk5...some games u just shouldnt bring into tha 3D world, unless u can do it right.
