I'm tempted to really jump in on this and I will. Jax, Nightwolf, Tanya, Mavado, And Kai to my knowledge are the only characters of varying ethnicities to grace their presence in the series. Now Jax is, as of now the only one to be a recuring character. Also true that there is diversity of the characters that have been in the series, it seems odd that thats five out of what... thirty or so?

And yes there are asians, however, they're typically placed in every martial arts based game. Let's take an entire count of every fighting game and compare the number of ethnic characters to those of non-ethnic characters. Let's look not just at MK, but Street fighter, Tekken, KOF, and DOA. No seriously, let's do that!

And I don't want to see anybody saying, "Well this puts everything in perspective". No, It doesn't! What it does is tell it like it is and how it's been for years. Why put it in perspective when it can already be seen? I mean really! That's such a fellacious statement that everyone abuses when it suits them, or when they can't offer any substantive opinion or debate.

Now I'm not advocating that there should be an influx of ethnic characters just to make it equal for equals sake, however I do feel that some developers should take a second look at the world that we live in today and now just the world within nine city blocks of their houses.

I do want to add something else. I've gone to a number of martial arts tournaments and I've seen such a wide diversity of talented artists at these events I can't even begin to describe. I think for someone(not saying that this is the prevailing thought of game developers) to think that martial artists of ethic groups other than caucasian and asian are not as good is a huge assumption to make and can alienaite some of them. And oddly enough, some friends of mine who love the MK series to death and who are of varying ethnic groups, feel that not having characters that look like them marginalizes them as second class martial artists.

Like I said, I'm not hoping for a influx, but I do wish for all developers to take a better look at the entire landscape on the world in the future.
