There are many on this board who are HUGE MK story junkies, myself included. Some of us felt the blow when MKSM demolished the MK2 storyline, and we felt a little cheated with MKAs storyline.
Now this.
According the the previews and Boon, this DC game IS going to have a working story of sorts. THAT threw me for a loop. It is as if they are saying "Ok, this story is messed up BEYOND repair, let's hire some comic book writers to take care of it the best they can".
I, for one, do not think the universes mix at ALL. And I am not alone in this.
The current story is "Worlds Collide". After I read the brief storyline, I am sort of willing to give it a shot and see where it goes, but am still very disappointed in the overall decision, personally.
This is NOT a thread to say "OMIGOSH NO FATALITIEES!!!111" or to discuss gameplay (interesting as it looks). I want to know some reactions to the story. Does this link up with Taven's MKA ending, where the warriros became even MORE powerful (Boon hinted that the Kombatants would be a little more powerful in this one)? Do you think the crossover will work? And why?

I don't really think this will have any affect on the main MK canon. I just think they want to give this spin-off a solid story, simply because their characters are known for their rich backgrounds and history. And they are not gonna change that simply because they are doing a cross-over.

They could use the events from MK:A to explain why the Universes merge. But once they work on the real MK8, they'll just act like this never happened.

It's simple actually. Boon decided to end it all in Armageddon so it doesn't matter which character survived, ended the storyline (or that's what he thought) and then made a MK crossover game for pure money with little story to it which in my opinion is not gonna be canon. Maybe he wants to test teh grounds to see if people dig the new combat systems, or graphics. I don't have a clue. I loathe the idea but I can't tell you what's in his head. So I'm dissapointed in this shit but maybe after all the hype is gone, we will recieve news about a proper done mk with mk lore and everything to it.

I sincerily hope this crossover nonsence is just some non-canon spin off game, and Midway is using it to explore the new generation consoles' capacities, in order for THE REAL MK8 to be released after it, and to just completely blow every other fighting game miles away.

I absolutely expect it to be canon. Obviously Superman won't become a central character in MK after this, they probably won't even mention him, but I don't see why the MK only stuff wouldn't come up again. As we've seen time and time again Midway does not care if it makes sense. If there is something cool in MK vs. DC they want to use and they can they will.

I figure it'll be like most other things, they'll pick and choose what they like and go from there. It'll be confusing, make little sense and cause arguments here. Par for the course.

Everyone is going to be in denial about this for years, until MK9 comes out, but deep down you all know it's true...
