There will be no fatalities but there will be some sort of finishing move.

Those really aren't that bad and are honestly not much worse than what we've endured the past few MK games, especially Armageddon. Elektra's finishing move was actually pretty cool. It was more or less a far more brutal version of Mileena's sai fatality in Deception.
If the MK Team does it right these can be very cool.

Oh, Def Jam definitely had some nice finishers as well. A lot of them looked really painful.
And Bane gets his back breaker of course.

They weren't just painful a lot of the Def Jam finishers from the first game and Fight for NY would have straight up killed or severly crippled the victim.
That's why I'm not worried about the finishers.

Those Def Jam finishers are just brutal, and definitely more fun to watch than seeing a limb get torn off for the 1 millionths time. I just wonder how creative Midway can be.

i 2nd that! i perfer Realistic Finishers rather than Exaggerated Fatalities.
I'm actually pretty optimistic about the finishing moves thing at this point. If forces the team to be creative because they can't resort to generic decapitation moves and shit, and there's a lot of nasty visuals you can think up. Especially with super human strength. Throwing people fifty feet in the air and having them land on their heads, soccer kicking the shit out of them, breaking out some vicious ground and pound, etc. That'd be cool with me. Or considering the cheese of the game they might go the other way and just have them be quirky and amusing rather than violent. I'd be fine with that too, it would be fresh at least.

yeah.. those are pretty cool. I love both those games.. and the finishers are awesome... but hasn't mk always been about having brutal, over the top, vicious, bloody fatalities? That's what got me into the first mk game. No other game had something like that really.. that was mk's thing... their trademark..
I just think this won't really work out.

Not especially. Liu Kang was the main character in the first Mortal Kombat game and his fatality was just an uppercut which featured no blood. Granted that game also featured Kano ripping somebody's still beating heart of out their chest, but MK has had it's fair share of fairly tame finishers is the point. SNES MK with the censored fatalities, even; Subzero's freeze/shatter, Johnny Cage just kicking through your chest, etc. And in MK II, there was still some pretty tame stuff like Mileena just stabbing you a bunch of times. Then still in latter games, Bo Rai Cho setting you on fire with a fart, and so on. Even for Liu Kang's regular 'serious' fatality he just dropped a Mortal Kombat arcade cabinet on you in MK3.
And shit, I just thought of something; are you people forgetting that this is the franchise that introduced friendships and babalities, where you'd give your opponents candy and stage puppet shows for them after defeating them? Think about that next time you guys are about to go on a rant about how 'serious' MK is and how this game is going to kill it's 'dark vibe' or whatever.
Anyway, please excuse me, I have to go use Quan Chi to stretch MoKap's neck like rubber until it looks like a penis.

Or maybe they're mature enough to stand a game without gratuitous violence like some sort of blood thirsty sociopaths. Sure, the violence is nice, and it will be brutal, but it doesn't always need to be extreme. The real man is one who doesn't need such things. Notice how many players were little kids/teens when they started? That's why. Its cool to them. I was only like five when I started playing back when the home console ones first came out. I've matured enough now to be able to enjoy it regardless of exaggerated violence and blood or not. Still, I am hoping the finishing moves will be good.

Assuming that because some people are willing to keep an open mind about the finishers (which nobody has seen) that they are "kids?" Original and very mature.
Fatalities in MK haven't been good in years. A little bit of originality, creativity, substance, and cinematic sophistication could be just what the system needs over borderline comedic amounts of gore.
Unfortunately, when you remove the fatalities from Mortal Kombat, all you're left with is an incredibly bad fighting game. I mean, I hope the MK team surprises us all and comes up with something good, but they have not shown that they are capable of working effectively in a 3D environment. And there's almost no way they could even come up with something as cool as some of those Marvel finishers.
