I went to EB games at the weekend, and saw the PS3 Packshot, I was told by the store manager that the PS3 cover was official? even thought i know someone posted a link to the NTSC packshot and looks diffrent, Midway distributer in Australia, Red-Ant's website says packshot not yet confirmed but their site is always delayed with updates. and its officially rated M (Mature) here is a link to the packshot with a pricetag of $109.95 AU.

Hasn't Australia been known to ban a few games? If that's the case, it doesn't really surprise me.
But I find that the T limits are being pushed a lot further, lately. If we were back in early 00's, games like Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, which commonly uses the word "Shit" and has a large bodycount of enemies, would probably have been rated M.

The M rating is probably for Australia only, I hear they banned silent hill homecoming.
Or maybe DC agreed to an M rating.

Oh damn, you're right, I just read that. Man, am I glad I don't live in Australia.

Although... Aren't PS3 systems region free when it comes to PS3 games? So can't you just import whatever PS3 games get banned?

The Rating system for games here in Australia are; G, PG, M, MA so its second last in the ranking system here a T rating would be equivalant to a PG (Perantal Guidence) MK:A was rated MA (Strong Violence)

I don't see why Australia doesn't just trust ESRB to rate games.

I haven't heard of many people pirating 360 and PS3 games.

It's only possible on the 360 so far, and there is a high number of piracy mostly in european countries that get games late.

Well, I don't support piracy... But I don't support Microsoft either, so pillage and rape those games, or whatever pirates do. grin

Are people under the age of 18 still able to buy the game?

actually everyone can buy a M game, there aren't LAWS that forbids children to play M games, not for now.
the ESRB or other shows just "suggested" ages.
howeve this game deserves to be banned...not for the violence but for the abysmal quality of the gameplay and downhill of ideas.

About Me

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yes sir, the check is in the mail."

Jack Burton had a question: What is the difference between the "M" rating and the "MA" rating? Doe the "M" stand for "mild" or something, and does "MA" stand for "mature"? I'm a bit confused...

I don't know about the law, but if it's not the law, then it's simply a common store policy, but in Canada, you're not allowed to sell M rated games to minors. Otherwise you'll get fired. You can sell them to the parents though.

M is Mature content recommended for fifteen-plus.
MA is restricted content that cannot be sold to anyone below fifteen.

It sounds like the wheels are finally in motion for Australia to get an R, which is going to solve at least part of the problem. It seems like video games have been cornered by a very strange lot.
Film certainly doesn't have this problem, where the sames sorts of subjects are shown on free-to-air television after certain hours. It's a very strange, and American sort of situation.

M, like most ratings, covers various classifications of content...

Jack Burton thanks Mick-Lucifer for that clarification. Much appreciated.
