As a fan of the original game and movie, and someone who appreciates good writing, I'd like to see Midway or whatever their calling themselves, get back on track with MK6.

How about a remake of Mortal Kombat? Just the original.. there are some fantastic characters that have been created in the MK universe, but to be honest most of the story, most of the writing, it's crap. I'd like to see above all a script that won't embarass itself, one that makes sense, one that gets more into who the characters really are - I mean, make me care about the characters - and something that the game developers can genuinely be proud of.

That having been said, I think they should put more time and effort into this next title. The engine should be improved, there's no reason why we can't have big screen caliber fight sequences going on.. how about some dynamic lighting and ragdoll physics? C'mon, all the other developers are doing it.

You could throw in all the original characters as the heavyweights in the tournament or whatever, maybe include some of the less important but equally cool characters in there as easter eggs.. as I recall there were some no-name fights in the first movie.

And then cram it full of great features. I never played MK5 (unfortunately) because the developers decided they didnt' want more money, and didnt bother releasing it on every platform. But, cram it full of features. Most games aren't fun to play once you've finished the storyline / singleplayer aspect. Add a lot of the characters that aren't in the first movie to use in some skirmishes or quick fights or whatever you call them. My point is just, the game should still be fun to play after you've beaten it. Set up your own tournaments, have some interesting gametypes to fiddle around with.. how about multiple fights? Slow motion would be sweet in there somewhere too.

This could have maybe gone in the wishlist thing, but I just wanted to make a point that this is a nice opportunity for "the devs" to really dominate the genre. There aren't any really awesome fighting games out there.. Soul Calibur 2 looked pretty good but I didn't play it too much.

And the MK universe has been too polluted with bad writing and corny characters.. clean it up.
Edit: I mean't multiple character fights.. and now that I'm thinking about it, fighting games, and simply hand to hand fighting in general, is usually viewed from the same 2D perspective. It would be interesting if someone could change that.. especially with multiple character fights, and being able to control how you move 3 dimensionally, that would be neat.

You have some good ideas, but remaking MK1 would defeat the object. MK is moving on, not going backwards. All of what you said that could be improved can be done in new games that continue the series, rather than going back to the beginning and starting again.

I agree with your statement. The mk storyline needs to cut out all the crappy charcters and get back to business. This nonsense started in mk3 and it needs to end now.I understand the fans damand for more characters, but surely the guys at midway can do better than Hsu hao. And the engine should be changed as well. The soul calibur engine is the perfect fighting engine to be used. Can you imagine playing soul calibur only with blood, and finishing moves?? Sweet. It shouldn't be copied brick by brick, but since mk is supposed to be a 3d game, why not copy off the smartest kid in the class??? Soul calibur is one of the best fighting games ever. And if it puts mortal kombat back on top of the fighting game genre, to balantly copy the style of fighting that the better fighting games incorprate then I say go for it. Why take the chance of releasing another broken fighting system like the one in DA? I want mortal kombat to return to its former glory.

A remake could be cool. Look at RE! That remake is one of the most awesomest games ever! Superb graphics met with a storyline that followed the original, but had brand new stuff. Considering they do it the right way, a remake could be great.

I can see wanting to "move on" with the storyline instead of what you might consider to be a step backward.. but it's still progress in my mind.

If I had the money I would buy the IP rights to Mortal Kombat from midway, hire a good writer to make a sensible plot.. no outerworld and interdimensional crap with multiple gods stipulating tournament rules, that's ridiculous.

Have a look at what ID is doing with their upcoming game, Doom 3. It's just a re-telling of the original game, beefed up from every perspective.

People are going to like Mortal Kombat if they follow my suggestions or not.. but I wonder how many people have much of an investment in the storyline and how many just enjoy the fighting part.

The reason I say a remake would be preferable is you can't just pump out another sequal and erase the bad stuff.. MK6 will have that inherent plot line about outerworld inhabitants trying to invade the "earth realm". I don't like it.

Most of all though.. release this one on PC. There's no reason not to do a simultaneous release on all platforms in this day and age.. You've got fans on every platform.. and MK isn't popular enough to be getting picky about releasing for specific platforms, you wanna appeal to everyone.

On a side note, looking at that MK Deception trailer, that could very well be in-game footage.. I wouldn't be surprised either way but I think we've reached the level where ingame should look like that.

Personally, I agree with getting back to the basics, in terms of storyline. I am probably one of the only few Scorpion fans around here, but i'd like to see exactly how they explain his ending from MK:DA and how he's still around.. obviously this must mean his ending wasn't a true ending for him (thank god, that was WEAK! he'd never let himself get OWNED like that!) but still... but taking a step back would not be a good thing... well, on 2nd thought, if some levels were made in 3d, that would be nice, but then again.. the pit wouldn't work too well, would it?
