posted11/08/2003 02:21 AM (UTC)byAlright, I personaly think that there aren't enough MK6 topics that talk about GAMEPLAY, so I figured i'd make a topic that's new and somewhat fresh...movement and agressor speculation.
1. Agressor Speculation - Besides the fact that the agressor increases the character's speed and power, I think that every character should have a special agressor ability that only that character can use. Speculation and ideas for this would be appreciated.
2. Character Specific Movement Speculation - Just talking about steps,back dashes,forward dashes and other movements that only that character can use. No mystical powers or elemental effects, just advance movement ideas.
3. Character Specific Movement Speculation(Special Ability) - This kind of movement would involve the character's powers. Like Raiden's teleportation and stuff like that.
Speculation for stuff in these 3 flavors would be entertaining, and who knows? Someone who works for midway may be reading your post and like it! Fans have always had an impact on MK to me..let's continue that.

on the agressor thing: if an agressor type ability were to return, it really makes no sense to just become stronger for no reason- so perhaps each character could have a reason why.
scorpions hands could become ingulfed in flames, sub zeros hands in ice, raidens in electricity, jaxs mechanical arms could work overtime (like a surge in power or whatever), cyrax/sektor could have some sort of steel plating that could cover hands/feet for a limited amount of time ect, ect.
only problem with this is-how would people like kung lao and such become more powerful/faster/take less damage when they really have no 'powers' or anything of the like?

Well there might be a few in MK:DA. Would Subzero's (Dragon Style) "Hadouken-esque" sidestep double fist punch attack count as one of these moves?
Lets see:
1. Agressor Speculation - Love Krackerjacks ideas above, using character specific traits to beat enemy down, that would work nicely, as for guys like kung lao and shang tsung, have a kinda super kungfu mode for their traits/aggressor which would speed up thier combos or unleahs a large variety of attacks for short while, kinda like a mini brutality.
2. Character Specific Movement Speculation -
Flips of all kinds, cartwheels, rolls, somersault, jumps, bobbing and weaving and all manner of defensive movements, combined with style specific parrying.
What i mean is someone using a style like aikido would perhaps "roll away" from a kick whereas a karate guy would just simply block the kick.
Whether thats style specific or character specific it can be negotiable.

Character Specific Movement Speculation(Special Ability) - Versatile im sure read my post in rayrokkas thread about using characters strengths to beat opponents, for example using sub, he could catch someones arm while they try to punch him but he grabs and freezes, not completly but just enough to immoblise it for a short while - he has the power of ice, and now with the medallion why not abuse it? after all, its the reason why we love good old sub in the first place....
same goes for raiden and his electricity, as for kung lao, he could use his hat to parry for example....

For the aggressor thing, I think it should happen, when a player, manages to do some sort of SPECIAL combo, or after doing many special moves. The characters would glow in fire (each character has an specific color and special combo).
For the sidestep things, well, Sonya could do it with flips and cartwheel kicks, since U see her use most of all kicks in a fight, and Scorpion could roll (like someone said) cause I think it suits him.

but having said that why restrict it?
i just hope we can select styles for our characters in the next mk, imagine raiden using drunken fist...lol

1.) I think the agressor should be treated like any other super/exceed/overdrive bar in any other fighter. Perhaps give it levels of ability. I think certain characters should treat the bar differently; IE, some may be able to initiate the power up as we know it today, some may have a super, etc.
2.) As far as standard movement and zoning goes, as long as a real SS and dashing system is incorperated I'll be happy. Varry the properties between the characters and it's all good. Peeps will always find ways to cancel shit and abuse movement "glitches", which have been in every fighting game to-date.
Personally, I have a hard time with things such as rolls, flips, etc. On one hand I feel they do nothing more than slow down the game. Unless you want that window of invunrability attached to the properties of this type of movement - like teching - it would be otherwise useless. Then agian, I'm old school, some may say traditional. Whatever. I think it could be used in escapes, such as throw escapes or wall teching, but standard movement has it's purpose. That is to get the job done, not crap around trying to impress your friends with an animation that will get stale in about three days.
Than again, an otherwise useless flip which would get you owned could be used fallowing a stun move to position yourself and zone even more. Possibly put you behind your oppenent. I see this kind of movement as being based more on an actuall move that has evasive properties, than a side step function. Basicly, this kind of movement would be associated with...
3.) "Ability" or "character specific" movement has it's place. Some of it already exists, such as with Mavado. I think this is an instance where being able to cancel becomes very important. Say you can cancel Kano's ball by SS'ing. That could be developed into something which would throw some people into shit fits: Ball, cancel, dash, ball, cancel, dash, etc. Okey, that's a lame example, but you get the point. I'm done. after all being a tad realisitic, aikido doesnt really use hard blocks for blocking, neither does jujitsu, judo, wing chun, the other kung fu styles...attachments to the defenses would work well...for example li mei trying to sweep kenshi for example, holding block will cause kenshi to just jump over the sweep say, whereas pressing forward and block, will enable kenshi to flip over li mei behind her and in postion like you said....mk games have always had a weak defensive system...it needs to be improved, PERIOD.

I wouldnt really like that to happen, but it would also be cool I guess. I mean, is more unique and fun if each character has their own personal fighting styles, being different from all the rest.
But it would also be cool to fight with all the styles being one character. I dont know, I think its more fun if they had their own personal styles.
And think about how difficult it would be, if U are able to choose the styles by your self, U could choose for example: Reptiles Crab, and Scorpions Hapkido, imagine all the work they will need to do to make all the styles fit with combos. Cause they will have to work on ALL the styles being mixed with ALL the styles, to be able to do mix combos. Is kind a difficult.

I dont know. I just can't imagine serious sub-zero rolling around. I think that would look fruity to the max. I think any movement involving sub besides his parries,joint locks and reversals should involve one thing and one thing only..ice. People are sick of sub having 2 special moves and stuff. His game should consist of at 3-4 offense based ice attacks and 4-5 defense based ice attacks like my frost retreat idea in Ray's thread.
For Cage Im loving the idea of taunts having different effects. Like pressing 1+2+3+4 will make him say "is that all you've got" with some kind of gesture and that boosts his agressor. 2+Block+CS may have him say "you're not in my league" with another gesture and boost up damage done against walls.
What makes this even cooler to me is the fact that you would be able to cancel them! During a certain part of the taunt you you could quickly cancel into ending credits(one of his throws) or into a quick low sweep. When shit is canceled from his taunt they would either do more damage or cause more frame advantage.

actually if the agressor thing isnt done correctly-i can see we'll have an "mkEX plus alpha" or somethng on our hands...and nobody wants that...NOBODY.

I liked crackerjack's agressor ideas.
In stead of flaming hands maybe i could be cool if he had flaming eyes, or rayden would have some angry electricity eyes thing.

Every character should have an element from their own powers for their "Aggressor" power-up type thing.
Here are a couple of my ideas:
Jax- He could let out an emence roar and the ground beneath his fir would crumble and Jax would get real buff.
Scorpion- You would begin to see flames within his eyes as he looks back at his opponent angrily and you start to see smok emitting from his body then he gives out a yell and his whole body would be engulfed in flames.
Sub-Zero- You would start to see Sub-Zero breathing hard thuss you begin to see the steam that emits from his mask become thicker and comes out faster and faster as Sub-Zero breaths harder and hearder. You see Sub-Zero looking at his arms and the clinches his fists tightly together and his whole arms freeze up completely instead of just up to his forarms. Then you see his medallion, which is placed within a holder ontop of his chest, begin to turn ice blue and it freezes his chest a little bit and you can see Sub-Zero's heart beatting inside of his body through the ice on his chest.
Those are just a few of my ideas of the way certain characters could get into their "Aggressor" state. I'll post more later.

ureiko those are great ideas-espeacilly the sub zero thing-but how would kung lao, bo rai cho, kano ect, who really have nothing speacil beside the ability to fight, 'power up'?

Kung Lao- He would put his feet and hands together as if he were praying and he will close his eyes and bow his head. then you will see a green glow behind him, and after a few seconds the figure would begin to form and as it forms you begin to see it looks more and more like Liu Kang. The glowish green figure then enters Kung Lao's body and Kung Lao comes out of his stance and puts his fists up as if he's ready to commence battle, again.
Bo Rai Cho- He would reach around behind his back and pull out an exceptionally large container of alcohol. He opens his mouth wide and begins to poor it down his throat. As he does so, you see his stomach begins to expand and get bigger and bigger as he continues to drink. Once he is finished he throws the container away and lets out a loud belch.
Kano- His opponent begins to quickly punch Kano in various places, the face, stomach, ect..., and Kano becomes enraged. As the camera rotates around Kano's opponent, all you can see is the opponent's back and his arms punching Kano. All of the sudden, you hear Kano yell loudly and Kano shoots his laser at the victim, the laser goes through his opponent and hits the camera and destroys it. The camera then switches back to it's normal position and you can notice that Kano's plate around his laser eyes is red hot. Kano is breathing harder than he normally is, his arms increase in size, and he has an extremely mean look on his face.
Shang Tsung- He would stand completely still for a moment then he would just bow his head and hot his torso. After about three or so seconds, you will see souls startting to gather around him and then, all of the sudden, you will see all of the souls enter Shang's body. After all of the souls have entered Shang's body, he will raise his head back up and his eyes will be glowing a bright green (the color of the souls.) His hands will begin to glow a bright green as well.
Those are just for some of the examples that you gave me. If you think about it, you could still have an "Aggressor" power-up for all characters, you just have to think about some of them, because they don't use an element, like Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Raiden, ect...

Of the speculations that I read, most interesting it is the Speculation on the Aggressor and if confirmed it goes to add more diversion to the players. They forgive my English....
I really like your examples Ureiko. The best are the Kano and Tsung ones.

Then, you will see the image of a great black Eagle behind her glow. She will do some martial art movement and the black Eagle will disappear inside of her with its load bird-scream. From that moment, Sonya will increase her power.
Like, when jumping, you will see little flashes of a big transparent black eagle behind her, allowing her to jump higher. When fighting, her kicks and punches will be accompanied by shadow glows and the scream of the Eagle could be heard each time she finishes a powerful combo.
