While Mortal Kombat: Deception is still in its very eary stages, and the trailer we have seen is a poor-quality, fast-paced, dark Quicktime file, I must say I am very excited about the prospectof what has been shown. It would seem that Team MK has taken their "reinvention" of the series literally, as it would appear that MK6 is to MK5 as MK2 was to MK1. Here's what I mean...

1. In MK1 and MK5, the general feel of the game was "fresh" and almost beautiful. There were many outdoor environments, architecture and symmetry seemed emphasized, and a prevailing "good" seemed to be in control. Of course there were some exceptions, such as Goro's Lair in MK1, and Drahmin in MK:DA.

2. In MK2 and MK6, the general feeling is that of horror in an almost gothic atmosphere. In MK2, we were introduced to the Outworld and Shao Kahn terrorizing the planet. MK6 features nightmare-esque dominions (the corpse ceiling, spiked-walls). Additionally, we are discovering that there is some sort of deceiver playing into the game. While I am inclined to believe that Baraka is somehow a part of this power struggle in a greater form of leadership, it is evident that there is someone in control above Quan Chi/Shang Tsung's former alliance. Could it be that Shang Tsung and Baraka form an alliance after MK4's "death of Baraka"? Obviously Quan Chi would be the blood-target of both Shang and Baraka, seeing as Quan Chi seems to have at least attempted the elimination of both characters. It reminds me of Shang Tsung and Shao Kahn's forced relationship from MK2.

There is much more in terms of smaller detail to analyze, but as for now it would seem that we will be wonderfully delighted with MK6, as it seems to be following the mold created long ago by MK2.

I think MK 6 is going to be kind of like the next MK 2 game of the series. Like you said, its in very early stages but the tone that the game looks to be taking is exciting. Horror, terror, spiked walls, corpse ceiling. I definitely think that MK DA was like a rebirth of the Mortal Kombat series. so you can call that the Mortal Kombat 1 of 2002. And now Mortal Kombat 6 looks to be shaping to take an even darker tone.

My only "what the heck" thought is why SubZero resembles a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle villian.....THE SHREDDER .

I concur with mobster
I certainly hope so..

Cause MK2 was the TOP of the series...
Now if only the good ol' days of the arcade were back...
I would agree, SO FAR.

MK:DA and MK 1 are similar...since MK 1 started the franchise, and MK:DA kind of re-started the franchise. It's also funny how people had the similar complaints about MK 1 and MK:DA...everyone wanted more stages, INTERACTIVE stages, more pits, more fatalities...and it seems like in both sequels you'll have ALOT more...plus alot more characters. It looks like it's going to be amazing, so far.

I'm really impressed by the fmv, which looks much better than in MKDA. Of course it helps that the game seems to have much darker colors than the last (flaws in an image are less apparent when smothered in shadows). Also, Ermac's costume is what I've been hoping for in an MK ninja since the original. It's pretty much hard to judge any of the other costume designs (than Ermac, Scorp, Baraka, and Mileena), but they seem fairly detailed. I'm hoping for a return of the run, either with a button as before or like Soul Calibur. With a button, there's a possibility for more moves (for instance f, d + rn might be a quick dodge down, a quick hop to evade sweeps and low attacks} etc) from which more attack moves can be executed. Fighting games often focus on the offense more than defense--I'd like to see more defensive "moves" in MK6.

I agree. I only hope they dont make the same mistakes they did in Mk2 with MkD, such as:

No hidden playable characters: Sonya, Kano, Jade, Noob, and Smoke.

The gothic feel of Mk is going to return...I hope we see a wicked church in the game, like the santuary in Mk3!!! I love that level and the music, its beautiful!
It's very easy to see that in MK:DA's presentation that everyone has one fatality as in MK1 and everyone has only a couple moves as in MK1. The feel MK:DA is just that.. a rebirth into MK and Deception is the 2nd coming. I hope they dont shy away from any aspects or any kind of content and material. It should be an all out effort for sure.

I agree, MKD will have so many wanted-by-all things such as more fatalities and stuff.
And that dark feeling about the game seems interesting.

If this game is to MK2 what MK:DA was to MK1 , then will the game after MK:D be the next generation version of MK3 ? I sure wish it isn't. Can't wait till MK:D comes out tongue

I agree. The dark atmosphere that MK2 had seems to have come back for MKD!

The fmv looks great. The characters and the arenas look great also.

I hope they do well with this game and improve upon everything in MKDA!
