With this being the first mk game online (finally!)
a lot of people have different ways of playing mk.

to some, a win is a win no matter how its won. some people make special rules while playing..

so, when it comes to online tournaments, will you create special tournaments with certin rules?

like no hand to hand (no weapons or specials)no death traps, no breakers, and the famous "2 in a row" rule (which is used in most local mk tournaments here..it means that is you use any move more than twice in a row, youre disqualified from the tournament)

Rules suck, you have to learn every aspect, so I think you should play with everything allowed, otherwise, you wont be able to make due out of what you got, you must hold your own!

I don't want a bigger movelist Boon. I want a reason to use more than
10% of the ones you've given me. Fix MK with Move Properties.

Hmm.. well all 3d fighters do 3/5 rounds in competitive play so probably that. Shujinko should obviously be banned.

i read a source that they might have tournments next year.... its either in the magazine in the oct issue of gamepro or the pse2 magazine august issue(it has battlefront or some war game on the cover)
**edit its the issue of playstation extreme (pse2) with the cover of mercenaries on page34 "every 2player mode in deception supports the network adapator, making it first online mk, and midway plans to hold online matches and tournaments"

I'm gonna throw tourneys for this game at a local LAN center in my area, and the only rule I have so far is that Shujinko is Banned, no questions asked

Tournament Rules

1. Must win 3 rounds to win fight(not to like default)

2. Best of 3. Meaning you must win 2 matches atleast to advance.

3. Semi Finals it's best of 5 matches.

4. For Finals it's best of 7 matches.

5. Shujinko is banned.

6. Death Traps activated.

I expect that to be the common thing for most tournaments whether online or in person.

I won't have Shujinko banned.I think once you get the gameplay down, nothing is impossible. Also wouldn't you like to pit your shujinko against anothers?

We could go japa style: just 2/3 rounds, you lose, you're out, lol. That would be hardcore. tongue

2/3 round/match double elim. Best of seven for finals. 3/5 for semi's some like, some don't. Peeps shouldn't really care; meh.

Ban on Nightwolf. Because he's going to be godly, too good. Just like Hanzo the great ninja. All tamahawk dance of death and voodoo shit. grin

Shujinko shouldn't be banned. Why should he?
It takes alot more skill to learn and master every characters fighters rather than learn 1,2 or just a few.

So he should definately be included.

Death traps should be disabled for tournaments.

Random character selection should be used for all fights within a tournament. This will show a true MK champion.

Best of 3 rounds, and 3 matches.

Shujinko is already obviously inherently unbalanced at this stage. He has a launch throw that easily leads him to at least 40-60% combos due to repeated jabs + TKS. Add in safe styles and he is a powerhouse. The thing with allowing Shujinko is that there really isn't only any other way to fight Shujinko without being Shujinko.

Shujinko gives an element of surprise and randomness. A player playing a character from the select screen has all of his options, moves, etc. exposed whereas a Shujinko player has all his options, stances, etc. hidden. This basically means that Shujinko is not only stronger than normal characters, but has the ability to be random and unpredictable because he can choose to not reveal his 2 stances until a decisive point.

In competitive play, the test of game is skill with the game mechanics and understanding your own options and executing them AS well as how they work in relevance with your enemy.

Now imagine any other fighting game, except there are no characters. Every character is a built character that is different for every single person. Kinda a random and pointless competition don't you think? Shujinko will be fun casually, sure, but what will happen when all tournaments consist of only Shujinko...?

I think allowing Shujinko to be playable online at all is a bad idea. Once people have had enough time to unlock him, we'll probably be seeing him way more than we'd like.

Death traps should definitely be on during tourneys unless glitches/bugs relating to them appear. The only things that should really be banned (besides Shujinko) are infinites. Hopefully, that won't be a problem this time...right Ed? wink
