??? Ummm...No. I think your kinda grasping dude. The MK characters are nothing like the
X-Men characters. Those are some very small similarites at best. Sorry I just don't agree.

No offense, not trying to put you down or anything. smile

BTW I think this belongs in general disscussion. I could be wrong though seeing as how you named mostly people appearing in Deception.

Later.

We know the biggest influence on Boon and Tobias for the movie "Big Trouble Little China." If you haven't seen this movie, you're in for a treat. Pure 80's cheese adventure at it's best! I grew up with this movie, so even though many may think it's crap, I love it. Probably always will.

Look for the character which they completely ripped raiden off of. It's hilarious.

Yep Raiden, Liu Kang, Stryker, the appearence of Sonya in MK! is a dead ringer for Kim Catral (think I spelled her last name right) and even Shang Tsung. All of thos characters could of easily been ripped from BTiLC. It is a great movie, bought it on DVD about 2 years ago, 2-disc set with many special features. It r0X0rz

Hmmm, I always thought they got some of their ideas from Enter the Dragon, the Bruce Lee movie. Its about a tournament on an island, ruled by a former champion master/crime lord (not exactly a demon sorcerer), his henchman is name is Bolo (big Chinese Hercules guy, hmm bolo sounds awfully close to goro), John Saxon in the movie reminds me a hell of alot of Johnny Cage, Bruce Lee (Liu Kang) of course is the former student monk type person seeking revenge for his sisters death, Bruce meets a guide/woman similar to Kitana, another one of the crime bosses henchman has a scar over his eye (perhaps gave the idea to give a scar to Zero?)... I dont know, back in the day I always found the two very similar in alot of things, people, and plot points... it could just be me.

BTiLC is of course more of an influence, at leat a character wise, but Enter the Dragon I believe had some influence as well.

i don't think that Boon and company get the character ideas from x-men.btw it's true they took influence from Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon and big trouble in little china....remember the scene when the guy infltates himself and blow up in pieces????....i smell Kitana's MK2 fatality in that scene....

see ya....tongue

Wow to tell you the truth I never thought about Enter the Dragon like that. But it makes sense! And lots of it. The stage in MK1 with Shang sitting in the background as all the monks look on, that reminds me alot of Enter the Dragon now that I think about it.

Thats what im saying... I always thought that it had some kind of influence on MK... it was just to similar to me in some ways. Now that I think about it, Han's (the boss of the island/mirror of Shang) second henchman the one with the scar over his eye, i guess is supposed to be the Kano type character in the flick. Ill have to watch it again to see more similarites.

The ideas came from a lot of places, but Enter the Dragon, Big Trouble in Little China and other martial arts movies were the main influences.

Enter the Dragon- The whole tournament taking place on a small island. And Liu Kang in this game practically IS Bruce Lee.

Big Trouble in Little China- Raiden and Shang Tsung seem obviously based on characters from there.

Van Damme- They originally wanted Van Damme himself to star in it (can you imagine that? I think it would suck). MK1 Johnny Cage is a dead ringer for him in Kickboxer.

Kano's faceplate is most likely based on the Terminator, but the outfit changed to fit the whole kung fu theme better.

MK1 Sonya always reminded me of that blonde woman who used to be in the China O Brian movies. Forget her name though, Cynthia something.

There's an unused character design named Rokuro who reminds me a lot of Conan the Barbarian (big muscles, long hair, not wearing much).

Anyone got any thoughts as to what Scorpion and Sub Zero might be based on? They have pretty unique outfits, compared to ninjas in a lot of other movies.

That film is great, bro! I'm glad they did rip the idea off! Raiden is my favourite MK character!

As for ripping off the X-men, I don't see that at all. They have created unique characters. The powers are apart of the character, whether they appear in another game or not.
