Call me stupid, but I went to that link and readg and read and read some more. There was nothing in that entire thread talking about Shang actually being a Demon. I read a lot about Ermac and if he was in MK1 or not but no Tsung.
Shang is a sorcerror trained in the black arts by Kahn.
I think it's cool the idea of Kahn taking his soul from the Netherealm and reincarnating it in Earthrealm though, but that's not canon. (It sounds like a great Fan Fic idea to me! Shinnok and Kahn butting heads way back in the day.)

In support of M4C, his idea is creative and more original than anyone else's ideas I see posted around the forum, so I say to most of the people on this thread who have flamed his idea, shut your friggin' traps.
Secondly, if you don't know by now that Shang Tsung is a demon sorcer, then you're either too young to remember a Mortal Kombat game before MK4, or an idiot, or both and shouldn't call yourself a Mortal Kombat fan. Its been common knowledge since the first MK that Shang Tsung is actually a demon, and has never shed his human form in any tournament yet.
Now to poke some inconsistencies in the overall idea:
Goro WAS in alliegiance with Kahn and Shang Tsung. He wasn't forced to fight in the tournament...he reveled in the glory of it. At the time of Goro's victory, Shang Tsung had already been aged. He took Goro under his tutelage and used him to win the tournament. Goro was used, yes. But Goro was not forced. Goro was, at the time, head general of Shao Kahn's armies and heir to the throne of Kuatan.
Jerod was already dead, and Kahn was already in control of Edenia. Sindel and Jerod were murdered when Kitana was a young girl, and Kahn 'adopted her' as his own daughter. She remembers, but her mind had been conditioned to forget about that past and embrace Kahn as her father, and Mileena as her sister. The MK tournament that fell to Shang Tsung and saw the death of Kung Lao occurred when Kahn was already long in power in Outworld, Edenia having been conquered long before.

Where does this common knowledge come from? Be so kind and show us a quote from the official story that proves your statement.
Sindel was not murdered. She commited suicide.

When I was 13 and reserved my copy of Mortal Kombat for Genesis from Toys R Us (that was a decade ago), I received a little kit for reserving the game. A kit issued by MIDWAY. The kit had stickers, pins, and a poster with bios for all of the characters. Shang Tsung's bio was included, and it clearly stated that he was a demon and included the sketch that I linked. If materials issued by Midway to the public do not convince you, than I am afraid nothing will.

Don ́t know why but that Shina character makes me remember Shaina from Saint Seya. =)
i really don't think the mk games should stop going forward so they can go back in time. but i do believe one prequel would be solid. i've brought it up before. make it 2d and just call it "mortal kombat zero" or something similar. use digitized actors. it's hard to imagine a 3d game that took place before mk1. i don't know. that's just me. but if they are going to make one last 2d mk game, can't think of anything better than a prequel for it to take place.

I wasn't a big fan of a Star Wars prequel with updated technology, etc. until I actually saw it. Now, I think its great!

I like the idea of a prequel, and some of the ideas that M4C have for characters.
The characters however would depend on how far back in time the prequel would be?
The great kung lao was defeated 500 yrs before the MK1 game so not many of the characters would be able to be in the game. Certainly none of the earth warriors that we know.
Obviously MK1 wasn't the 1st tournament in Mortal Kombat. There have been atleast 9 MK tournaments before the MK1 game.

Shang Tsung origionally was a "demon sorcerer"... that was the official story as of mk1... im not certain about mk2.. but i believe they just kind of dropped that idea because it hasn't been brought up in the series since as to what he actually is except a sorcerer.. but he was considered a demon in mk1.... and same with goro he wasn't forced into anything he loved it.. but after mk4 his story was changed into him being a good natured fellow and good friends with all the little mistreated peoples of the realms lol he was better when he was evil..... so shangs story could have easily been changed just like goro's has been... or they just dind't think it important or good enought to expand upon and maybe now he is jsut human who knows.... but it is a fact that in mk1 he was a demon sorcerer.....
