Why were some of the best signature moves left out of MK:DA?

Sonya's Handstand flip has gone.
Kano's knife throw has gone.
Johnny Cage's low blow has gone.
Shang Tsung's ability to morph has gone.

List goes on...will they be bringing these moves back?

There are plenty of moves that were 'forgotten' on purpose I think. Reptile would look odd doing a forceball in the state he is in now. And invisibility in MKDA would be an almost unfair advantage since the stages are 3D and its easy to move around and avoid any contact with a projectile or such. Also, sad to say, but its going to be some time before we see Shang Tsung morphing on the new age systems.

Moves that I do think should have been in been included are:

Johnny Cage: Nut Punch (Come on! I know the Shadow Kick is his trademark move, but this runs a close second!)

Scorpion: Air Throw (Would have looked cool in MKDA)

Raiden: Torpedo (I am glad Sub-Zero gave up his slide, but his cold shoulder looks to similar to the move that replaced Raiden's torpedo)

Kano's knife throw would have been on the same level as Kitana's fan throw impale move. Wether Kano hit the opponent or not, he would lose his knives and his weapon style with it.

Shang Tsung can't morph in the console versions, but he can in the GBA version. This is because it would have taken too long to load a character's model, data, and moves into the system when Shang morphs (we're not using instant-fast cartridges anymore). This would have just about killed playablility with Shang.

But a LOT of moves that define the characters were not in the game. Scorpion's teleport could have been done in 3-D, with the same restriction that it would not take him to the other side if he's close to a wall. Kung Lao's spin, Jax's Gotcha! grab, Raiden's torpedo, Sonya's Bicycle Kick, just a few that would have been nice.

some of these moves were only usable in 2-d fighting. the ice clone would have looked really weird in 3-d freezing someone (you, know thinking of graphics.) and an air throw would be kind of strange as well.

I think that moves like Scorps Air throw would have been done well if they did it the same way as they did with his throw at sort of a cinematic angle.

Scorpion: Teleport punch, Forward Leap Punch.

Sonya: Wave Bolt.

Sub-Zero: Ice Rain, Ground Freeze, Ice Clone, Slide.

Cyrax: Teleport, Green Net.

Jax: Bionic Rush, Single Shot and Double Shot (Missles), Gotcha Grab.

Kano: Sword Toss, Upwards Ball Roll, Psycho Ball Roll.

Kung Lao: Diving Kick, Spinning Shield, Teleport Attack.

Raiden: Torpedo, Reverse Lightning Toss, Teleport.

Reptile: Forceball (Slow and Fast), Slide, Invisibility.

Shang Tsung: Transform.

Those are the moves I wish they included in MK:DA. Pretty much every old move from MK: Trilogy. Excluding a slight, small few. That, and 2 Fatalies or maybe add an animality onto to, would've brung us back to the old MK days while playing MK:DA. grin

The characters don't have enough special moves, individually, in MK:DA... They had tons on MK: Trilogy. For 1 character alone. They should've included those MKL Trilogy special moves in MK:DA, as well as included the moves that they already have in the game.

No teleport moves were in MKDA. I dont know why, but I prefer it without, because teleporting is impossible (so are projectile attacks, but you know, thats MK). MK wasnt built on teleporting, and so, the removal of teleporting wouldnt hurt gameplay at all (or piss off fans for the most part...). I personally prefer no teleporting, because it would create too many unfair advantages (i.e. invisibility, but not that many).

As for the ball punch, wtf is up there, I loved that move, so did everyone. Torpedo with Raiden is sadly missed. Scorpions leg take down was cool, but its usefulness was hard to see (IMO). Finally, Sonya's split leg take down (or whatever you call it). It was great, useful, and damaging, I miss it a lot.

It's been 6 months since i've played MK: Trilogy, and posting alot of the moves from MK: Trilogy in this thread got me missing the game alot.. Because I miss those old moves. I used to have the N64 version of MK: Trilogy, but it got stolen. Haven't played it since. And that was about 6 or 7 months ago... So, yesterday, I went out and bought the PlayStation version of MK: Trilogy, which is even better than the N64 version. grin

Another thing that got me missing the game alot was looking through my strategy/code/'ality' list book that I bought when I got the game. Looking at the screenshots the book has, looking at some of the old moves. I just had to go out and get it again, but this time, the PS version. And I did. grin

But all that's kinda off topic.

Moves that should had come back in MKDA are:

1-Sonyas Leg Grab:

This was one of the best Mk original moves ever! very fast and powerfull. Im sure it WILL come back in Mk6 for her. In Mk3 U could do an INFINITIVE of leg Grabs with the robots, and if lucky, U could manage an INFINITIVE with other characters.

Also, some like her vertical bicycle kick, air throw, sonic rings (but the kiss is much better then that), and cartwheel were great.

2-Cages Nut Punch:

Very original and funny. MUST come back. Also his shadow uppercut was great.

3-kitnanas infinit fan throws.

4-Raydens torpedo.

4-cyraxs net.

Johnny Cage: Nut Punch, is a great stun attack, (which gives you free time to attack, like the freeze and the spear) and looked cool too.

Sonya Blade: Leg Grab, Pink Rings or whatever you call them, but keep the K.O.D.

Sub-Zero: Ice Clone, Shower Freeze

Cyrax: Green Net I can't believe he doesn't have it that was is trademark move, and teleport.

Raiden: Flying Torpedo thing, and Teleport.

Shang Tsung: I know they couldn't do it but I really miss the shape shifting.

Why don't you just call Johnny's "Nut Punch" the "Ballbreaker" or something... I think that it's actual name anyway. Lol. tongue

The reason so many moves were left out or replaced is because the overall theme of MKDA was a remodeling of the game and a spirit of "out with the old, in with the new." Of course, this pissed a lot of people off, but it got people excited too; it was deemed necessary to revitalize the series. Basically, I think they figured, "Okay, the time gap between MK4 and MKDA is as big as that between MK1 and MK4, so we gotta make it not just an evolution, but a revolution." The decrease in special moves is due to the fact that they wanted to shift the focus from the magic that abounded in many of the special moves and fatalities to the gameplay and fighting authenticity.

That said, I think Raiden's torpedo should have been left in instead of the shoulder ram, Scorp's telepunch instead of the flip kick, and Cyrax's green net instead of the chest blade. And with Reptile's invisibility, I think it could be made a bit less of an unfair advantage by making him just barely visible; that would not only make it a bit more fair for the opponent, but it would make it easier for the Reptile player to keep track of him.

Yes, how truly ironic...the dragon medalion made Sub more powerful by taking away two of his moves.

Yeah, well, not anywhere near as good as the ones they took away. Except maybe for the cold shoulder. I still think he should have kept the ice statue.

I understand the moves that go into the air like Sonya's wave punch being gone. I understand the teleports being gone. I even understand the invisibilty being gone. They would've held the fighting back. But the following moves SHOULD have stayed, or could have.

Johnny Cage's Low Blow/Nut Punch. This was simply the move that defined him. Why take it away when it could have worked so well?

Also for Cage, the Shadow Uppercut. I understand it being gone, and don't miss it that much, but then again, Drahmin had his uppercut, so why not Cage?

Raiden's torpedo should have stayed, as Johnny Cage still has his rush move, the Shaodw Kick, and Sonya now has Liu Kang's Flying Kick. (not to metion Li Mei's Flying Punches, practically Liu's Bicycle Kick. Poor Liu.) It could have worked fine.

Sonya's Leg Grab SHOULD have been her throw. It was too awesome. Plus, her MK4 fatality which used this move was probably her best one.

Sub-Zero's Ice clone looked awesome, but I can see where it might have caused problems, and his ice shaker MORE than makes up for it.

Well, that's about it.
