My analyses on MK vs DC and the mk team..
Hello,
Before I start let me just say, that I have been a die hard mk fan since day 1.. I bought my first playstation just because it had MK3 on there with better graphics rather than that shitty genesis version.. Matter of fact I bought my past few systems based on mk releases as well.. Anyways, going on..
I am a graphics expert and I am very disappointed in the mk team with the last few games..
Heres a food for thought... Look at all these new FPS games coming out, such as resistance 2, fallout 3 etc.. They have so much content, so much information stored in one disc yet the game still manages to look amazing.. MK vs DC has little to no content but a story mode, arcade and 2 player mode.. From a technical stand point, all the fights from any mode are linked to one core area for information.. I was so disappointed to see how they had a powerful UT3 engine in there hand, and still manage to fuck it up.. Keep in mind they probably didnt even use 8gb's of xbox's storage and ps3's 25gb capacity.. A game of this magnitude was nowhere near 6gb's..
The graphics were so half assed looking, the backgrounds had barely any textures.. No dynamic lighting, no nothing.. It was very bland for my taste.. They actually thought they can substitute all this with decent looking visuals and ground breaking effects to grab your attention, yea it was cool for the first 20 matches but than starts to get old..
On a more general stand point.. I really hope some badass developers pickup the MK license and take it places boon could never do.. Frankly since MK3, every game has been either getting cheesier and cheesier, or just plane half assed.. Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3 were very original in there own ways.. But since mk3 comes out, you get UMK3, and trilogy (Basically the same game over and over (Although I loved them and still think they were better then the last 3..) The same goes for DA MKD and MKA...
I hope the next one has more dynamic gameplay.. Not just setup moves you perform over and over.. One thing I loved about MK vs DC is how you can create a vareity of combos along with pro-moves.. (Great touch..) But I think its about time to give the MK fighters a bit more credit.. Alot more power, and way more badass appeal... Take it to the darker and sinister route and lets see how things go...
Once again, not bashing the game.. Im a huge fan who's ventilating his disappointment for boon and his team that let such an amazing storyline/ idea go down the cheesy lane..
I believe its about time Boon and his team LET GO of that whole ideology "Release a new MK game every year b/c we can half ass our way to the deadline.. " If they actually spent about 2 years, they can release one badass of a title that can probably rival the first 2 MK's.. Bring back its glory and head a new direction..
You may bash away now =)

*sigh* That was a sarcasm used instead of telling you straight that they are not doing fine. Because they obviously aren't.

in comparison to tekken soul calibur and streetfighter, mortal kombats sucks the big one, the gameplay is severely lacking, needs to be deeper, the graphics character design the whole kittenkaboodle, needs a major ball-tearing overhaul, TEKKEN WITH FUCkEN FIREBALLS, how hard can it be

I think that this game could be perfectly released for Playstation 2 and Wii.
The graphics dont looks so stunning, it has even less content than MKDA, MKD and MKA.
Dont you all think? Boon were not ready for the so called Next Gen

Pretty much true and this has been already talked about. But I just hope they've learned how to use their new tools, hence the new MK game will be really impressive. At least as regards the graphics...

Still, it's not the main reason why people don't like this game.

There is no X variable to solve for
I think the MK team is doing good, Midway isn't, obviously. But, then again, I have always felt Midway lacked that certain something.

If Ed Boon would have release the game for PS2 I would have bought it... but since I don't have a PS3 I can't buy it
That was a bad move from the part of the MK team

So much guesswork in this thread it's ridiculous.
You realize the team was forced into shoe-horning the unreal engine into their concept... and then, the constant back and forth approvals of every design possibility and animation, not to mention specials and finishers with DC... and then the constant back and forth with the ESRB...
Then balance issues, additions, bugs, playtesting, more bugs, promotion approvals, scheduled info releases, etc.
You guys have no idea how much work they had to put into this game with that deadline even when using some recycled motion capture.

Although that's true, it has little to do with the actual quality of the graphics. But like I said above and like Ed Boon himself said in one of the recent interviews, they've learned a lot during the development process, especially as regards the engine usage, so the next game should be noticeably better.

Do you have? Of course that game has cost them a lot of work, but still, it doesn't look so "nextgenic" as it should be, judging by the whole UE3 hype around the time of the game's announcement and with comparison to other fighting games on the market.

I understand what your saying, thats why a good management always divides the work properly among the team.. Somewhere down the line between swapping ideas with DC and rendering the graphics, some idiot pressed 40% instead of atleast 80% on the rendering quality.. Trust me I know the load it takes for a game to be developed and I hate to say it.. Compared to most game developers, the MK team has a fairly large staff for a game that doesn't have so much content involved.. Ive seen smaller teams push out a bigger and better game with the same time frame... There is definitely something lacking with the MK team, and it clearly shows in there final production. Theres no need to defend or deny the facts when they are right in front of us.. Im simply pointing them out.. But yes everyone is entitled to their own opinions and I greatly respect that.. As the great Peter Griffin once said.. "Although I disagree with what you said, But i'll defend to the death your right to say it!"
