My prediction for the lack of info on MK8

None of this may be true but Midway might have some sort of strategic marketing plan up their sleeve. We know that MK8 has been in production for some time now, at least 2 years, and it's scheduled to release for the end of 2008 until otherwise posted.
On the line up of games to come, we have both exclusive and non exclusive games for current gen systems. These are the big cheese's, the franchises with guaranteed hits. They are: Grand Theft Auto IV, Street Fighter IV, and Ninja Gaiden II.
Mortal Kombat is next on the list of big franchise games to be announced, and why Midway has been keeping it under wraps is probably to keep the spotlight once something gets revealed. It's still not too late for the game to have an official announcement if it's scheduled for say Nov. 08, we're still 8 months away. I remember MK Deception was in the same situation, the first info was revealed around March. Also with the latest annual reports, there have been rumors floating around that we should be hearing something real soon.

To be honest I believe the lack of info is based on the fact that the game probably isn't in a truly impressive form yet. They probably have the framework in place but are working to actually make it presentable with graphics and animation and that sort of thing.
...Either way news will come when it comes.

Patience.
I believe if we are going to hear any news it will either be in the form of subtle signs from noob.com (like we have been getting recently) followed by an official anouncement and maybe a short teaser (like something similar to SF4) or it will be revealed at e3. We are just gonna have to wait.
Like some other guys have been sayin, this is nothin compared to the long wait between MK4 and MKDA (5 years approx.)
Personally I think we are in a mode where we are used to hearing news on a regular basis. Just look at recent years folks , we have had MK game after MK game thrown at us (once a year). Now because there starting from scratch on next gen it will take time and we have to just learn to be patient again just like the era Ive mentioned above.
It is painfully difficult I know but hopefully MK8 will be well worth the wait.

I cannot see Ed Boon not using viral marketing, to be honest. It's really the "in" thing these days, and Boon has always loved to play with people by releasing little clues.

Obviously there's been talk of some pretty ambitious changes to this upcoming game, but traditionally they aren't working for the entire duration between a game. So there's no real reason to think they started running straight after Armageddon.
It'd be nice if they did, though, and have been quiet by choice, rather than by necessity of not having a lot to show.
With the major international beat 'em up franchises coming to the table this year (Street Fighter, Tekken, Soul Calibur...) it's going to be a pretty big ask for MK to stay competitive in the worldwide market.
Be very interesting to see what they've got planned to combat that.

I wouldn't underestimate MK8 or overestimate SF, SC and Tekken just yet. There are huge Tekken fans on here not impressed at all with T5, SC is turning into a joke with "characters such as Vader and Yoda? come on... lol and SF4 although looks good, isn't anything "revolutionary" but more like the older games updated into a new game more or less.
Mk8 is of course untried and we know nothing of it yet but I think it'll be able to compete with the other fighters, the engine itself will automatically sell people that love GOW, UR etc
Good point and true.

I'm definitely one of the big Tekken fans with reservations about T5, but it's done anything but detract from my interest in what's going on. Likewise, it hasn't been anywhere near offensive enough to make it a game I wouldn't gladly purchase (Tekken's problems are more about stagnancy, than error).
I think MK makes a pretty good example for the online phenomena of the vocal minority. Fan criticisms rarely translate to action. MK's undoubtedly going to have it's hands full with more successful international brands. That's just how it goes, contrary to crazies who think MK sells more worldwide than Street Fighter... Which is crazy. Those people should be immediately detained for relocation in Alaska, where their criminally deranged machinations can't hurt anybody... of importance...

sounds like 2008's the year of the fighting game.

I think they're trying to keep things under wraps in order to put more attention and more talk and buzz surrounding MK8. Because if they dont and they release too much info people are going to know every little thing about it and there will be no mystery or surprise when ever you play the game because you know everything thats in the game.

I actually wanted to correct myself, I meant to say T6(I know some Tekken fans weren't too fond of T5) but T6 from some people I've spoken to on here that love Tekken series seem disappointed with it.
On the best selling fighter gig, no fighter in the world will overall outsell the SF series. It's the first, and popular worldwide, MK is popular more in the states, latin america and canada and some parts of Europe not at all in Asia....
Unfortunately, Asia doesn't like any american games if you notice despite how good, popular they are. MK, Doom, Halo, GTA to name a few....they just don't like our style...(or they flat out suck at them)
