My results are in for this game
Having heard of the game in the first place was an interesting thought. Having heard that the game would be toned down left me wondering, "Ok, no gore. What about the rest of it?"
Now for me Mortal Kombat is all about the interactive backgrounds, cool finishing movies and fight system. Each game possessing a different approach to the fighting mechanic.
Fighting Engine:
I think that MK vs DC has a solid fighting engine. It does away with the different fighting styles and you just have one per character. This game has basically gone back to the style of MK 2 - MK 3 with the fast paced fighting and matches ending rather quickly. I can deal with that. Some combos could have been different for each character as I find some are the same as others.
Special Moves:
Very good and each character has their talent that separates them from one another.
Backgrounds:
The backgrounds are cool. The different ways of ending up in different areas has basically not left since it was first introduced in MK: Deception, or for that matter MK 3. I do miss the stage finishers alot in this game. Some backgrounds scream for a stage fatality of some kind. There better be a plenty in the next game. There is interaction with some backgrounds, but I prefer what they did in the last two games: Some have different areas to crash into and others have death traps, or both.
The Characters:
Not too much beef about the character selection. However, I find the Joker and Lex Luthor could have sit this one out. To me they seem out of place among the superheroes and MK characters. The final boss is not really that great. It could have been better thought out.
Fatalities:
Ok, here is where I have one problem with the game. I don't care about the gore missing. I can deal with that. Some of the fatalities however are really too simplistic. For example, Kano. His first one with his two knives doing the deed is really cool. His second one has a lot to be desired. It seems lazy. Batman's two are another example. The bats Fatality is very good, his second one however just plain sucks. I could go on, but I rather not. After doing them for a while I found that one fatality would have been enough. As most of the character's have one good one and one lazy one.
The other problem I have with the fatalities is the way they are executed. It is exactly like the old school Mortal Kombat. You have to time it perfectly to pull it off. There is time to do it, even more so then the original three games, but it does not help. Most are a pain to execute. Especially some of the good ones. The fast paced fighting is a good part of the game, the fatality part sucks. I prefer having a fatality button so your character does not freakin move during the button combination. I hate it. It becomes frustrating most times.
Content:
This is another problem I have with the game. Where the hell is extra content? They must be wanting you to pay to get it online! There is no movies, game demos, or even picture art to look at. Unless you get the special edition, the content in the game is plain boring. In fact even with the extra DVD with the special edition could have been put on the game.
Really dry extra content.
Finally:
I found this game to be too hyped up by commercials and trailers. When you break it down, this game is MK: DEADLY ALLIANCE 2. No backgrounds with fatalities, good fighting system, and good characters. This was a game that is a let down. I think however that those that don't care for it will care for Mortal Kombat the next time it comes around.
This was a good attempt, but it isn't for me this time around.

That makes zero sense: Deadly Alliance was NOT a crossover, had a completly diffrent engine and fighting dynamics, completly diffrent storyline, and was rated M. "Good Characters" and "Good Backgrounds" are generalizations. So I see no grounds for you to be calling it MK:DA2.

That's a way to start off your "detail assertation"; with a redundancy. I can only hope that you didn't notice that and it slipped by you.

And you've lost any shred of rescpect you could have gained, so it goes.

MKDA was a great game that revitalized the series during a time when it was dead AND was stuffed with a truly ridiculous amount of extras. Calling a game "Deadly Alliance 2" is a compliment AND a comparison that doesn't fit, because MKvsDC plays quite differently and has basically no extras.
Besides, Deception was MKDA 2.

Deadly Alliance 2? No, this isn't. DA was part of a different MK series. The first three games were one series, MK 4 was kind of by itself. MK:DA to MK:A was another series.
Don't EVEN compare this game to those in the past. It is not even close.
The Joker and Lex Luthor are part of the DC universe. They fit well I think. Why don't you care for them? Who would you rather have? Would you rather have boring characters?
If you are going to write a review, at least back your stuff up with why you do not like something.
Don't dribble on and on about nothing. Back your words.

Fallingfinish:
It is what I think of the game. I feel they don't fit because they don't have super powers like all the others do. It is an opinion. You don't like it, it is not my problem.
To the rest of you:
I said it was like Deadly Alliance 2 because of the gameplay. Deadly Alliance had no background deaths, one fatality per character and didn't have a large boss at the end. The same goes for this game. No background deaths, two fatality moves per character. Yes there are stages that you can fall or end up in different areas, but I still think it is a watered down game.

The same does NOT go for this game.
You said yourself this game has two finishers where DA only had one. Also, this game DOES have a big final boss.
Besides, MKDA had a big SUB-boss, just like MK1 and 4 did.
Your comparisons don't make any damn sense.

Batman doesn't have powers, does he not fit?

Yes I am a comic lover. So what?
Are you? You don't seem like it.
Do the site a favor, leave comments that make sense. Or just leave.

So...Batman fits with no powers but Lex and Joker don't...why? What's the difference?
Lex simulates powers with his armor. Surely that fits better than Batman's moves, which are just a bunch of batarangs and a grapple?
Explain this bizarre logic to me, that one person with no powers doesn't fit, but another person with no powers does. Shouldn't they be treated equally? Or is it just because Batman has a costume with a mask and the other two don't?

Whatever. This is just a freakin review. Take what you want of it. You certainly know more about heroes then I do. I admit to choosing my words better.
Bottom line: I think the game could have been better.
That's that.
Sorry if I mad anyone mad.
