Well this is kinda pointless because my friend and I were arguing about some stupid crap. He wouldn't see my point that fighting games have short, choppy, quickly thrown together stories. So he made me get an account here because he didn't think I would post my thoughts here.
So if you're easily offended by this, don't read, it's not my problem if you don't agree, in fact I don't care if you don't agree.
I've never really been a huge fan of the fighting genre, I've been more of a fan of RPG's. For one, RPG's set you imagination up with detailed stories, minus a few crappy ones we won't mention ((cough Fable cough)) Also I tend to like the idea of my mind being forced to think of strategy on how to defeat someone. Like the boss is ice, fire beats ice... crap like that. Yes I am aware that fighting games need strategy as well, but not the type that I am interested in. No I'm not one of those people that go around saying "Bow to RPG's" I'm more of the kind of person that believes, "To each his own."
People don't get RPG's that's their problem, not mine, don't like an RPG more power to you.
If you enjoy RPG's cool, good luck to you. All in all, I believe Fighting games get old way too quickly and no one really plays them for the story line. I've had Final Fantasy 7 for about 6 years and I still play the game. I've probably beaten it 5 times now, and each time I play it I learn something new. Same goes for Final Fantasy 8 only different amount of time owning it ((obviously)) Now I will agree that Final Fantasy 9 blew I own it but I've only played it through once, the story on that wasn't really my interest.
With all this said, I do like Mortal Kombat to an extent, I'll play it, but probly grow bored of it after a month and decide that I need a new game. Wow, I've had a lot to say.
Please don't post stupid comments such as "RPG's suck, and so do you." That's a bit immature and below even a five year old. I could have said MK sucks, but no I said that it's a decent game and deserves it's share of credit.

Still, it is my opinion that good, deep fighting games take more skill, strategy, and even role playing than any other game genere. When you have chosen a character, learned their moves inside out, know your strengths and weaknesses, become them to the point that your throughts transfer falwlessly into movements just as they do with your own body... that is something truly beautiful to behold.
P.S. I think MK has a great storyline and I've always been intrigued by it.
First off, Damsel, not danzel.
Second, You never have to save a damsel in distress, it's about the main characters conflict with someone trying to over take the world, or destroy it.
Never once is your main objective to save a damsel in distress. Sure you may have to save a girl at some point in the story, and rarely ever in the first place.
Try actually playing through the whole story, or reading the FAQs in gamefaqs.com or something
Actually, SC2 had a pretty good story, The first few Tekkens had a good story...
So how the hell can you say they have bad storys?
i dont get it :(
i agree... takai is saying fighting games are just button mashers.... no story.. i cant believe he would say such a thing bout mk and other fighting games...
.... where are my other amigo's kenshimaster16, konqrr, justycists....where are you guys on this topic that mk and other fighting games has no good story....
I've never really like short, basic story lines, I need depth to my stories.
I've only played SC2 for a total of 20 minutes and it was at my friends, the same friend who had me make this thread. I never had a chance to see the story so I wouldn't know it's story.

*sighs*.... i think you just need to get back to ur roots.....

First of all I never said MK had no good story. It may have a good story but it's short and simple. It doesn't leave you thinking about the story. You don't fight Cyrax and think "Man, what's the next story going to bring?" You're thinking "BEAT HIM UP DAMNIT!!"
Another thing, why do you need buddies to help you out on this? I said from the start this was a pointless topic you made me create...

Wow is that ever wrong. Makes me wonder what you know about the MK story, especially the backstories of the characters, their histories, their inter-relations, their clans, the realms, etc etc. There are lots of threads on this forum that are purely discussing character storylines... wondering about the how's, why's, and what-happens-next...
If you havent played every fighter all the way through, How would you even KNOW if there wasnt any fighters with a good story?
Because I've said time and time again, I've never been a huge fan of fighting games. I cant sit there for hours on end trying to figure out the plot, it's all right there and a short cut scene or narrated text. I've also said this was a pointless debate I was begged to make. Now I'm tired, I'll check on this tomorrow if I have time.
Goodnight.
Also, at least I had the balls to come to a fighter games forum and post my thoughts, unlike a lot of losers that'd chicken out of it and put their tail between their legs.
