As most of us know the next installment of MK after Deception will be on next gen consoles. PS3, Xbox2 and hopefully the next Nintendo console as well.
Everything going right, Midway and Ed's team will take advantage of this and give the MK Kommunity far superior graphics etc. Now provided the new game machines can handle what I'm going to suggest and the MK team can accomplish it, we need to see next gen fatalities as well.
This means that fatalities can't stay the way they are. I was thinking about this on the way home from Uni. If the technology can handle it the fatalities need to be more involved. I'm not talking about better or more elaborate fatalities. Not by any means. I'm talking about gamers having a better understanding of each fatality they perform (or get performed on them). Not sure what I'm talking about? I don't blame you. Let me give you a few examples of what I'm talking about.
Imagine seeing, say, Sonyas MKDA fatality on a next gen console. The Kiss of Death. The lights dim blah blah blah classic MK build up for what we love about MK. Gore. Ok. We get more cinematic camera angles etc. She blows a handful of corrosive powder into the opponent's face (lets say Shang Tsung). At this point we get ultra close up. Shang breathes in the powder and we follow the dust into his respiratory system. We follow it as it wafts down like smoke on the wind into his lungs and rests in the inner lining. We watch as it corrodes his lungs and we slowly zoom out to see more of his organs all melting and turning to a mushy liquid. It all looks totally gross. We backtrack back up and out of his mouth again just before he coughs up blood and falls to his knees. Close samuraiesque shot of sonya's eyes and she jumps up to smash his skull. Her boot connects. Pause and Xray. His skull cracks. Play. no more Xray. His head explodes. Blood everywhere.
Another example. Ermac's MKD fatality. Now I haven't seen it and aren't entirely sure how it goes but you'll get the idea: We zoom inside Ermac, heat seeking predator vision. We see a green glow emanating from inside and expanding. Rippling. Shaking. Ermac is levitating his opponent. Perhaps Hotaru. Zoom out and big swing around to Hotaru in the air. Close on his face. He's trying to fight it. Zoom xray to inside of Hotaru. quick pans to various organs beginning to bleed, dolly across arm bones straining and cracking. BANG. Hotaru goes compact. Bones peirce organs etc. BANG He's outstretched again. Zoom out. Zoom in to inside of his arm. The bone cracks and breaks apart. Camera swings to look up the arm along the muscle. they're taught and straining. They snap. Snap like steel cables trying to hold up a falling bridge. The skin opens up and we zoom out to see poor Hotaru's limbs get ripped off. A fountain of blood sprays the arena. His body falls to the floor. Ground cam see his head fall to the floor soaking the lens with red. Close of Ermac's eyes, blood rain spattering his face. FATALITY.
This is what I'm talking about. Sure we see fatalities now but you don't actually see what really goes on in the opponent's bodies during their humiliating and elaborate death. What I think we need is for the audience to understand more about how they die and what it is that happens to them during the death scene that makes them discontinue to breathe. It would bring a lot more to the legend of MKs fatalities and perhaps disrupt a few more stomachs in the process! Shouldn't our aim be to get MK back in the running for most violent game? This could be the way to do it. Incorporate more anatomical realism. "What would happen to someone's body if this happened?" "What would happen internally?" That sort of thing. And it doesn't have to be restricted to fatalities either. It could be incorporated into the gameplay as well. How does Sub-Zero generate his ice blast? How does he gather ice particles from the air? What happens to the air when he does this?
Of course that is provided the consoles can handle it and Ed and the team are able to accomplish it.
I don't know, maybe I'm trying to be too technical with things.
Opinions?

I think next generation fatalities should be FMV movies.
Something like a Final Fantasy-type cinema cut scene.
Now THAT would be some hot stuff guys!

yeah, but they should make it more realistic, like sonya'S fatality as u mentioned: by the time she jumps on the opponents head, not all explodes, but maybe have of the upper brain, making u stil see parts of the brain, eyes, nose and mouth. i don't like all the 10000000 meet pieces flying all over. let's say kenshi uses his fatality to cut up, let's say kitana stomach. no 200 gallons of blood will fall out, but u see her gutts just slipping out with a right amount of blood to show the real brutallity, she then tries to put her gutts back in, but in vain, coz before she gets to put everything back in, he cuts off both her arms, making it impossible to put all back in, and that causes the remaining gutts to fall out. she screams like hell and before she bites the dust, henshi cuts her head off, making not too much, but just right blood squirting out. what do u guys think?

I think that is an awesome idea. Cameras switching around kinda like CSI or something of the sort.
I would gladly wait an extra year for them to produce something of that calibur.
Good thread, great ideas.

Exactly what I was thinking when I first read it. CSI: Outworld. Although I think it would be cool, the point of MK's fatalities is to make them somewhat realistic, but also fantastic and not realistic enough to put off anyone. They're doing a phenominal job as-is, with the character interaction and ideas. Going CSI on it could prove to be more realistic than some people could stomach.

That was done in Romeo Must Die w/ Jet Li.
Too much processing since the Fatality is a rendered on the fly animation and not a movie.
Once they can get the model to more realistic body parts, any they are close, then we can truly get more realistic.
They implement tricks to make it seem more real. Bag of random bones and chunks.

Ok so the fatalities are rendered on the fly. What I was saying was that would it be cool IF (now there's a big IF there) the next gen consoles could handle it.
But thanks for your opinions guys.
Referring to people complaining about this being in the wrong section, Are you suggesting I put itin General Discussion? If there was an MK7 section I'd put it there but I've seen people talking about MK7 in here so I'm all outta ideas.
