I'm not crazy about delays, but I can't say I'm in love with incomplete products either. I've been hearing here and there that there's no time for an online tournament mode, and that has to be my only dissapointment with MKD so far.
I mean, getting down to the absolute basics, what is Mortal Kombat? A tournament, encompassing different fighters who battle to the death. But now that MK online ability is a reality, an actual "Mortal Kombat Tournament" with real people can be a reality as well. So what's this crap about no time? If I recall correctly, it was the online play you guys were so excited about.
Come on, nothing is more MK than a tournament. If I had it my way, there wouldn't even be mirror matches in an online tournament. Once a character is taken, it's fucking taken.
Anyway, your thoughts?

I think I speak for all non-PS2 online owners (myself included) that it will be a useless delay.

Well, I too, wanted a tournament mode, but what Boon has lead me to beleive, is that this new online mode is to recreate an arcade environment. Now when I played MK in the arcade, we didn't play tournaments, we play King of the Mountain. Now I would like to see that in Deception. A lobby setup where you could have up to 16 players waiting while 2 battle it out, with an observer mode for those waiting. Or maybe have more than one fight going at a time, and the losers just get rotated around. For an arcade scenario, this would be more realistic.

umm...not to poop on your guyz parade, but why can't you guys just set up a tournament once on line,I mean I guess I just need to be enlighten on the need for the game to have a "tournament mode" just set one up and invite people, during my days of MK II and III on X-Band on the SNES I used to enter them all the time...

I too would like an official online tourny set up by Midway every once and a while ala Warcraft 3, but as long as there are ladders and what not, I'm content. I say no on the delay.

Even though I do not have Xbox Live, I totally agree with what is being said about the loss of an online tournament function quite pathetic.
It's the period where online gaming is with the times. If MKD comes out without this functionality, once again it will be behind in times. MK is meant to be the leader in fighting game technology, however this is almost proving wrong without this addition.
Online gaming is a good addition to the game, however a tournament option with rankings would put it so much further out in front.
Also, I'd like to add a comment to Temps comment on mirror matching. This is something I do disagree with him on.
Mirror matching in tournaments is not a bad idea, it is more good than bad IMO. It puts to fighters up against each other with the exact same attributes, and really it does come down to the skill level of the human opponent and not a special move of the character. I just think that it takes great skill to defeat another opponent with any character, but even more skill to defeat them with the same character...

No ladders, either? That's weak. What does he say is going to be in it?

As long as theres Scoreboards which Boon himself has said there is, I'm happy.
Just think when you fight a person, that in order to be at the top of the ranking chart you need to kill him and every other mother fucker you face along the way.
Thats my tournament.

Nah, that's bullsh*t. There should be an online ladder system, period. Calling a bad decision a good one, certainly doesn't spontaneously make it so. Reality is reality and crap is crap.
No ladder system in MK:D = crap.
That obviously goes for any future fighting game in the works by the way.

All online games (apart from MMORPGs, for obvious reasons) have ladders and tournaments. C'mon, Ed, I'm not trying to be ungrateful, but this is the basics. It's like forgeting some of the basics in the fighting engine in MK:DA...............
