Seems like with the invention of multi-tiered stages and death traps, positioning is more important than ever in Mortal Kombat. Either when it comes to maneuvering your opponent towards a stage hazard/death trap or clearing the way for yourself if you happen to be in the red zone.
This is what I'm thinking: Correct me if I'm wrong, but most - if not all - attacks that can push your opponent into a stage hazard/death trap are linear - meaning that you, your opponent and the death trap are all on the same line. Seems to me that if you line your opponent up that way you would be badly telegraphing your intentions and (s)he would never let you get into that advantageous position.
But what if certain attacks thrust your opponent to the side - or, from our perspective, either toward or away from the TV screen. You following me? Say a certain style had a spinning roundhouse kick. In a left-foot forward stance that kick would send your opponent flying to the right of your character. So if the stage hazard/death trap were to your right, voila!
I think this feature would add two strategic elements to the game: One, defensively, it would increase your awareness because you never know if a punch/kick/weapon strike will knock you forward, backward or to the side. Two, offensively it would make you conscious of your character's stance. Because if your left foot is forward, you will send your opponent into the death trap. If your right foot is forward, however, you'll push them away and possibly put yourself at a disadvantage.
Does any of this make sense? And if so do you think it would improve the game any? Is it too late for the MK team to incorporate it into their game engine? Perhaps. Have I lost all control of my fingers and they're typing on their own? Perhaps. Anyhow, I hope I didn't waste your time. I'm just trying to come up with ideas that would maximize MKD's features.
