if i was to guess why liu is back id have to say something happened to shang tsung seeing as though he was custodian of luis soul.
who knows what has appened to tsung, maybe he is the one who got twisted into the DK??? maybe shang tsung is lui kang??? maybe lui was a soul too powerful to control and his two styles are actually two different ppl, switching between shang and lui fighting for control over the one body?

It's a strong possibility knowing that they (MIDWAY) know more about the game than we know.

I think his main is the green spirit Liu we already saw in Chess Kombat.

hmmm...well i can't say i havn't expected this day...bezou has warned us of his impending return many a time(and through enjoyable sigs as well) my only thing about this is...there better be a damn good reason he's back... please note... this is not complaining...i don't mind the fact that he's back...i'm kinda looking forward to it... but bottom line is... if he simply "saw what was happening through the eyes of shang tsung and telepathically asks a scorched raiden to bring him back to fight the new dragon king menace" then i will be severely pissed.... theres no turning back in this....either he will be important or there's no point to bringing him back....and hopefully his ressurection won't be corny.....ugh...thank god for opening fmv's to clear the confusion i guess

Liu Kang is merely an illusion
It IS Shang Tsung (morphed into his most prized soul).
Beat Liu Kang and his form will drift/melt away to reveal the Demon within.

I'm just super happy Liu is back, now all I need to do is decide which console to get to play this game on. And know I will not give up my cube.

argh i wouldve liked it better if i was surprised to see him in the game first hand, not to find out through the internet.
I remember back in the day before mk2 came out midway sent a newsletter with info on it, I mustve read that 100+ times and there was little info about the secrets in the game besides a teaser pic of the pit 2. Now it seems like i know most of the hidden characters and the game is still 3 months away.
yea i know if i dont want to know about it why come to a site like this... because i still cant wait for the game especially the online part of it i just hope theres some huge secrets in the game still. (mk2 online please)

Well juding by the vid clip his avatar is green while the costume shown is for the "normal" Liu Kang.Also I wonder if it's connected to the fact that while he is having a fatality done on him you can see a sword stuck in the ground with a green pulsing glow on the area it is stuck in.

You know what I've just realized watching the Hotaru video for the hundredth time today?
Liu Kang FINALLY looks like John Tobias envisioned him. No actor could ever truly pull off that look (though Ho Sung Pak came a lot closer than Eddie Wong) but now Liu Kang can truly be all that he was supposed to be. I believe THAT is why his alt is so familiar looking.
