My belief is MKA because Cinder said it was non-cannon.

I don't know where you're getting this from, but MKA is definitely canon.
I'd say that when it comes to the main games, I'd say that MK4 has the worst story as it wasn't fleshed out as well as it should've been. There were several things that needed explaining or more explaining, and it was kind of ambigious and flimsy overall.

Yeah, when did Cinder say that?
Anyways, yeah definately MK4. MK should make an adventure game about MK4 to explain some shit that needed explained.

I think MK2, it was really the same as MK1, just took place in Outworld with a different boss.
MKA IS canon. Cinder only said the *intro* of this game was not canon, and even that is still kind of unknown for now.
IMO no MK game has a bad storyline (now that we are getting bios from MKA that story seems to be very good, but if we don’t get all the bios, then this one takes the price for worst storyline ever for being incomplete, despite we knowing the main storyline anyways....), but some are better then others.
I agree. MK2 has the worst of all the stories.
Sure it had excellent new characters and it was a great sequel no doubt, and the introduction (to the story) of beings like Shao Kahn and the realm of Outworld was fantastic, but the main essence remained relatively uninspired and shallow. It felt too simple and linear.
It’s the actual elements of MK3 that make MK2 a good storyline, but MK2 alone doesn’t really shine.
A fake tournament that was made to lure everyone into Outworld. The challenge had to be accepted or else there would be consequences, and everyone goes back to battle shortly after the end of MK1: Tournament 2.
It just doesn’t feel right, thank God for the story of each character or else the overall feeling would be extremely lame.
I fail to see how MK4 has a poor story. It was definitely not as exploited as it should had been, but it was 10,000 times more inspirited and developed then MK2. The entire “fallen Elder God” story was well built. Shinnoks amulet, escape and invasion was done nicely, but more should had been revealed. The main problem was that MKDA(for some strange reason) talked mostly of the events after Mk3 and very little was mentioned from MK4, of Shinnoks attack to the heavens and Edenia.
Ages ago, MKA would had been my pick for WORST STORYLINE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, but thank God we are getting bios (well, we were, why are they taking so long?). The entire “run up to the pyramid” and “only one will get the price” story really felt idiotic and stupid. I hated it with every single bit of my soul and I hoped for everyone (the mk team) to die for such a terrible and lame event for the series finale of this generation.
But after Konquest in MKA, and the awesome bios we have been getting, everything seems to feel less simple, more complex, and a lot, a LOT more interesting and well developed.
MKA has a great storyline, but in order for it to be really good we need all the bios. They own us the bios.
From best Mk storyline to worst:
1.- MKDA: 10/10
2.- MK1: 9.5/10
3.- MKD: 9.5/10
4.- MK3: 9.5/10
5.- MK4: 8/10
6.- MKA: 7/10 (so far, but if we get all the bios it can go to be 9)
7.- MK2: 5/10

Thanks for clearing that up. I never meant that MKA was not cannon, I only meant the intro was not cannon.
Ofcourse all the bios they have been releasing is very cannon indeed.
Just wondering isn't time now for another bio?

queve: Here's the thing. Without MKM: SZ, MK4's story wouldn't be as good, kind of like with MK3's story adding more to MK2's and MK1's stories. There were definitely good elements and good ideas in it, but it just wasn't explored that well in itself, which is bad. What you call the "trio" of Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, and Sonya Blade was very flat and redundant.
There were some really shallow and uninspired characters, namely Jarek and Kai. Reiko's story was very simplistic and could've had exploration, but they kind of fucked him up in the end with the Shao Kahn idolization thing. Tanya's story at the time was pretty solid, and she was one of the more prominent new characters. Fujin was just another god. Baraka was up to the same kind of shit he's always been doing, kind of like with the "trio".
Then we have the two main antagonists, Shinnok and Quan Chi. While Shinnok was the main villain, as well as the boss of the game, he was greatly overshadowed by Quan Chi, and this is one of the biggest problems with MK4's story. This is especially underwhelming, considering MKM: SZ and how Shinnok felt like more of a boss than he did in MK4/MKG.
About MK2's story, it had a darker feel than the first one, and it reveals that Shang Tsung, the boss of the first game, was only a servant of an eviler, more powerful boss. Given Shao Kahn's power and the tournament taking place on his turf, it makes for a darker story. Sure, it's not the deepest of stories, but it's a good progression from the first MK's story.
outworld222: You should've made that clearer for all of us as your post made it sound as if you were referring to MKA's overall story. Not everything in the intro happens, but the battle itself does take place. Btw, it's spelled canon.

MKA. Such a disapointment and I'll hate Ed Boon forever for trying to make it look like its going to have some huge dramitic awsome ending that would " decide the fate of all the characters". I mean, werent some chracters suppose to be killed off? we still dont know who's going to make it to the next game which is cool, but I thought that was going to be settled in MKA.
I also like how in an interview Ed Boon said that there was "going to be this huge event on top of this pryramid". Please, it was a lame fight at the end of konquest, in which you fight one the easiest boss's in MK history.
My point is Ed Boon made it look like MKA was going to have an awsome storyline, but ended up being the worst imo. Theres alot more reasons why MKA's storline sucked, I just dont feel like getting into everything.

Hmm, I see what you are saying. Though I feel that Shinnok played an excellent role in the story itself (bios, endings, pics, etc.), he came off as an excellent boss, but it was in the gameplay were he truly sucked and felt horribly lame and stupid, terrible for a boss...and yes, it was devastating, but I liked his story so much that I predicted his return would be with glory and predominance, and we are seeing that in MKA. Lets hope his story in that game is perfect, because they already fixed the lame gameplay look he got for Mk4 (he looks awesome in MKA!).
As for Mk2, I think we can agree that it was darker, but for me, no more. The story is not really that inspiring like the one of Mk3, Mk4, Mk1, etc.

So true. It was really sad to see what they did to MK in MKA. Thank God the bios are coming out (though they take ages) nicely, namely Kenshis, Johnny cages, Sonyas, Nitaras, Sareenas, Raydens, etc, and they are making the story feel more deep and interesting. Im actually starting to like the story of MKA a bit more.

I think were all forgetting MK triology It had no story aside from some crap about wise men at the beginning. MK Triology 2, some times called MK Armageddon, didn't have the worst storyline ever konquest had a storyline.

queve: I still have to disagree about Shinnok. I mean, yeah, MK4 kind of makes Shinnok out to be this threat, which he kind of is. But then again, the real threat is Quan Chi, which overshadows Shinnok a bit. That plus the vagueness of things in MK4's story itself make it very flimsy. I'm glad that at least they nicely revamped Shinnok into a worthwhile villain, one that is leading both the heroes (e.g. Johnny Cage) and villains (e.g. Shao Kahn) to their ultimate doom.
MasterHand: You're kidding, right? MK: Trilogy's storyline is an upgraded version of UMK3's storyline, which is an upgrade of MK3's storyline.

There's a reason MK: Special Forces is non-canon. The game and the game's story was such crap that it was beyond redemption.
Gemini: "JAX, there's trouble! It's Kano! He busted his buddies out of jail!"
Jax: "I'm on it."

Jax: "Never too late. Watch as I break your shiney amulet and take you back to Earth. Hey, what the hell are we doing in Outworld?"
Kano: "It just seemed like the place to be."

I agree. I thought it was great how Shinnok returned from the confines of Hell after X thousand years to seek revenge. It's a pretty rich storyline, with much they could do with it. I liked how Shinnok took over Edenia to gain power, and how Tanya gained a role in Mortal Kombat as the traitor. Plus the characters had good connection with Shinnok and Quan Chi.

Whether one thinks its late or not, Johnny Cage was hugely revamped, and it was more then nicely in MKA. It was all perfect for him, from bio to ending.
Lets hope Kahn is saved.

Hmmm, well personally none. Every MK has sooner or later explained why this happend or that.
The thing is there are those bitchy fans that are never pleased that always want more. I've seen this in every series, doesn't matter if it's MK, Mario, Halo whatever..
But FTR, I would say none I enjoyed them all and still do. The bios are explaining everything therefore I have no beef with the MKA storyline.

I think Armageddon had the worst storyline.
Some of the bios are great, but the overall story of the realms falling and Blaze is sent to stop it by killing everyone is stupid.
In bits and pieces, it's great thanks to the bios, but the overall concept of the story; the main story is boring and pitiful. The Konquest story, which is merely Taven's bio, was also shitty.
After that, I think MK4 was the worst because it just seemed too spontaneous and irrelevant to the previous stories (like how MKA disregarded the story built by DA and MKD).
