Well, that's a hard thing to peg considering I wouldn't consider a lot of MK characters iconic...especially the MK1 cast. Being among the first doesn't make you iconic, it just makes you first. My selection of iconic characters stem from originality and relevance.

In no particular order...

1. Sub-Zero
2. Scorpion
3. Goro
4. Kung Lao
5. Shang Tsung
6. Shao Khan
7. Kitana
8. Sonya
9. Liu Kang
10. Quan Chi
11. Raiden

I basically believe that those are the characters that will probably stand out the most to people that don't follow MK. Each of those characters were distinct enough that they (for better or worse) are usually whom I imagine when I personally think of MK.

However, I think there are far better characters out there but that's not the question.
