the better the rank of the person you defeat, the more points you get. i'm not sure how many exactly. if you lose to a person with a better rank than you, your rank isn't too effected, but if you lose to a person with a much worse rank than you, your rank takes a big hit. if you beat someone who's rank is much worse than yours, you'll only get 1 point.
