*** This is directed to the PS2 online community ***

Now that I'm playing on PS2, I started thinking about all of the opinion and differences threads we've done in the past mostly over at MKAC. We've had several different (and some times random) discussions that ended up being pretty fun and interesting. Seeing as how MKAC is basically the Xbox Forum, there was never that much input from the PS2 guys. I'd like to hear what you guys think about a variety of subjects. I'll start with this one and see how it does, then maybe make some others.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

For this one, I'm just curious about what games, aside from MK, are your favorites? It can be your current favorites or games you grew up loving or anything like that. Give maybe your Top 5 or 10 or so. They don't have to be ranked.

I'll go first, off the top of my head. A lot of mine have to do with nostalgia...

--- Final Fantasy VII : PSX
Probably the most satisfying game I ever played through. I absolutely love the story of FFVII. Completely intriguing and immersive to me and I'm not really a huge RPG buff. 40-50 hour experience for the main story. If I remember correctly, it took me like 90+ hours total to finish the game completely. That's insane. I love the story and gameplay, and it lasted forever. And for me, I could play it all over again after a few months. So the replay value on top of the great story on top of the minimum 40 hour experience (for me) makes for a great, great game. I also like the old 2-D games, but FFVII just worked for me.

--- Metal Gear Solid : PSX
Very, very fun and innovative game at the time. Very impressed with this one. All the sequels are great games, no doubt. But MGS left an impression on me that hasn't been matched by the sequels, although they're definitely top-tier games.

--- Resident Evil 1, 2, and 4 : PSX, PSX, and GC
RE1 was scary as hell to me and the story was good. RE2 kept that scary tone followed up everything in RE1 very nicely. RE4 is easily the funnest of the series. Greatly innovative and brilliantly paced. Action packed, but still keeps the terrifically scary/eerie mood that I love about RE. Can't wait for RE5.

--- Grand Theft Auto 3 and San Andreas : Xbox
I was fucking blown away when I first played GTA:III. I couldn't believe how much freedom there was. Honestly, I was almost in awe at the fact that I could go anywhere and do anything at any time. It was brilliant to me. Then GTA: SA comes out and improves on every single aspect of GTA:III that I loved. Much, much bigger map, many more vehicles (land, air, water), customizeable character, improved combat, more interaction with the public, great story and acting, etc., etc., etc. I'm sure GTA: IV will blow me away as well.

--- The Legend of Zelda series : Nintendo
Personally, Ocarina of Time and A Link to the Past are my favorites in the series. But really, how can you go wrong with ANY installment? You can't. The story is always the same basic plot game, after game, after game. But somehow they manage to keep the story fresh and intriguing every time. They're always the Top-of-the-Line Adventure games at their time. Always.

--- God of War (II) : PS2
Absolutely kick-ass. Both are equally awesome to me. Kratos is definitely the biggest badass I've ever controlled in a game. Really cool, really violent, and relentless action. I fucking love it.

--- Super Mario 64 : Nintendo-64
First off, I love all Mario games. They're the quintessential platform-adventure games and all are among the best for the time. But Mario 64 was amazing. It was basically the first 3-D platformer done correctly, and it was damn-near perfect. I thoroughly enjoy the animation, feel, music, and everything else about this game. Very, very fun still today.
---------------------------------------------------------------

There's plenty more games that I really love, but ^^ these are the ones that stand head and shoulders above the rest for me. So what do you guys think? I'm interested to see what everybody is into.
hehe! ok

-MKA
-MX vs ATV
-SKATE
-ATV off road fury
-Dave mirra BMX
-Agressive Inline
-Wakeboarding Unleached

I love extremes games lol

Is FFVI the same as FFIII for SNES? All that Japan-America translation shit confused me. If so, that's probably tied with Zelda as my favorite SNES game, slightly ahead of Chrono Trigger and a few others.

I think MK2 might be my favorite MK, too. For different reasons, though. I never played competitively; I just liked the tone, characters, and music... and then there's that nostalgia I talk about.

Okay, here's my list:

Rush n' Attack - Not a very widely known game, but some XBLA players may know it, since an updated version of this is on that. For those who don't know it, it's one of Konami's 80's arcade games. A rather addicting game about a US soldier trying to free POWs armed with only a knife, and actually pretty difficult, too. My cousin owned a RnA machine, and left it at my grandmother's house. My whole family loved this game, until it broke (I was right there when it happened, too, lol). But by far, this has to be my favorite game of all time. BTW THIS GAME STARTED THE DEEP KICK! Lol (Get the game to understand what I mean, lol)

Tekken Series - While my brother was introduced to the 2nd installment through a demo disc our aunt had, I had already played the first Tekken game prior to that. Just an awesome series. I wouldn't be into fighters as much if it wasn't for Tekken.

Mortal Kombat Series - The newer MK games just can't compare to the classics, but I've loved Mortal Kombat since the days I used to play MK1 on the SNES. I loved the violence, the gore, the blood. It was something you've never really seen in a video game. Too bad the games are all broken.

Street Fighter Series - The series that pretty much pioneered the fighting game genre as we know it. I was so hooked onto this game when I first played it at a skating rink. The computer was throwing fireballs at me and I was like "WTH??? HOW DO YOU DO THAT?!?!?!" That's what made me so hooked onto the games. The Hadouken.

Final Fantasy Tactics - THIS GAME IS PURE COCAINE! Lol, your first time playing through this game, if you can get used to the 1 hour battles (Yes, battles in this game can end up being an hour long), you will definitely enjoy the story line. Such crazy plot twists and full of deception (Even more than Mortal Kombat Deception, lol), and a battle system I find to be my favorite among RPGs. Double Sword + Chaos Blade + Excalibur FTW!

Pokemon Series - I know you're thinking, "WTF, Azuro is 18. Why the hell would he be into Pokemon still?" This was the first RPG I've ever played. I even remember all of the original 151 Pokemon in the game, as well as that one glitch Pokemon that gives you a ton of items. I had such good times with it, trying to sneak it in during lunch at school, lol.

Final Fantasy VIII - My first Final Fantasy game, actually. My cousin had the first disc just on his floor, and really didn't care much about it, because all he knew how to do was the card game. I picked this game up, found out where to go to fight, and I was INSTANTLY hooked onto the game. Everyone says FFVII is better, but I actually disagree. I like this much, much better.

Mega Man Series - I didn't play my first Mega Man game until MMVI, but wow. It's formula hasn't even changed and it still makes for one of the best video game series in existance. The Blue Bomber...what a crazy little dude.

Super Mario Series - SMB started the home console gaming craze along with the NES! I grew up with SMB as much as I grew up with RnA. These two games were what I've been playing since I was like 2. Just pure fun to go back and play these games. I recently downloaded SMB, the Japanese SMB2 (Lost Worlds to the US), and SM64 onto my Wii, and I just love them. Shigeru Miyamoto is a genius. Thinking of the Mario series was pure genius.

Metroid Series - I only heard of Metroid through Samus in Super Smash Bros. Me and my brother then got Metroid Fusion for the GBA, and we're thinking, "How could we have missed this series?" Just fun games, and the first one was just plain hard to get through, because it was easy to get lost, and the play was so nonlinear. You could get whatever item you wanted before you were supposed to. Just an amazing concept.

Legend of Zelda Series - My aunt had MK1 along with LttP. Although I could never really get anywhere in LttP, I still loved the game. My cousin got OoT and MM for the N64, and OoT is a huge reason why I'm afraid of spiders, lol. Just so many of them....but overall, a great series.

Sonic the Hedgehog Series - I remember the days my cousin had the Sega Genesis and Sonic 1. I loved this game. For its time, one of the fastest games out there. I mean, zooming through a level in less than 20 seconds? Come on now, I don't think any other game had that. It all went downhill after Sonic Adventure 2, but the classics are where it's at, especially Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

Contra Series - Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start (Select if you wanted two players). What a way to jump into pop culture with a code like that. I just loved this game. My cousin (the daughter of my aunt who had the demo disc with Tekken 2, MK1 and LttP) had this game, and I would always BEG to get a chance to play it. The best series of games Konami has come out with, ever.

That's all I can list.

did you ever play any ofthe pre PS final fantasies?

i just cant believe any one would say that FF XII was their fav.
i found it to be the worst FF i ever played. i dont mind the fighting system, but i hate the gambit system (i think thats what it was called) i ended up setting it up so that all i had to do was walk around then when its time to fight it does the work for me. i did this because i hated how you had to scroll over and over to get to different characters. i hate how in a fight the commands would keep going back to the 1st spot character even though you already gave it commands.
there should be 4 separate boxes on the bottom of the screen for each character. they made it too much work to set commands for each character so it just mnade it easier to set the commands from the gambit.

then i was piss how every "cave type" area (places other then towns and the world map) would be identical on both sides, they really put no thought into the areas. they made one side then mirrored it on the other.
save spots were in retarded spots.
then the hammer was the only good weapon THOUGH OUT THE ENTIRE GAME. so every time i went to a shop they newer hammer was the best so all my characters ended up wearing the same exact items and weapons. DUMB.

in past Final fantasies they set it up where some characters couldnt use certain weapons or atleast you had to use a different type of weapons because the weapon type you were using isnt always the best style to get. as the weapons up graded from shop to shop.

FF 12 nope the same weapon style was the best upgraded weapon through out the entire game.

they were way too focused on the way the game looks and ignored the important stuff so that the game didnt get repetitive.

ok now im babbling, i just found it odd some 1 would say FFXII was a "best game".

I loved the battle system in FF Xll. I couldn't stand the turned-based bullshit in X, X-2 Vll, Vlll, etc. In Xll it was all real-time based. So you pretty much had to think quickly and ahead of time when you execute your moves.

If you want to be in full control just turn the gambits off. I just set my allies' gambits to "Attack enemy with the lowest HP". That's it. Did you choose the option of letting the battle continue while you're selecting a spell, technik etc? I didn't that way I stay alive A LOT longer, lol.

I didn't care for the maps of the world. That wasn't really my main concern for the game. Right now I'm at the part where the game gives you the opportunity to level up and complete side quests before you go fight the final boss. I'm trying to level up all my characters but I haven't found a place where you can level up quickly. Best place that I know of is Pharos of Ridorana. That stupid tall-ass tower where all the monsters kill you in one or two hits.furious Also the Feywood and Wastelands of Nabudis are ok I guess.

You think hammers do the best damage? I'm not sure. They're more of a 50/50 weapon just like axes and hand grenades. Either they do a shit load of damage or they do some weak ass damage.furious I prefer two-handed swords since they take a shit load of HP every time.

Yeah so right now I'm trying to complete EVERY side quest in the game and get every Esper before I fight the final boss. That one fat piece of shit Esper is a bitch. I barely last in that fight because the area has HP Drain once he comes out and you can't nullify or reverse it.furiousfuriousfurious Why does fuckin Square-Enix make shit difficult for you in the FFs, lol?

thats another thing that sucks in FFXII the stupid espers. i like my damn summons. the espers are worthless in this game. in FFVI they ruled and shouldnt have been brought back in this stupid way.

also another thing i found myself spending more time healing in boss battles then actually attacking. all the magic spells are shit and stupid my best way to win was to set gambits to haste, cure, life, protect, Shell and ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK. using anything other then attack was stupid its the fastest way to win. i found the hammer to be the only consistent weapon. in each shop it was the top one every time always. everything else there is for show they gave them no real use. you wanna deal out the best damage get the hammer.

i remember fighting those stupid soliders for hours in that air ship where an alarm goes off to go up levels. thats another thing getting exp is slow paced. you get shit exp even when you fought a real tough character. from what i remember fighting bosses gets you zero experience points, am i right or am i remembering wrong.

a tip incase you dont know, having just 1 character fighting by themselves gets them more exp points. thats what i did.

FYI ~ i dont like having to collect GIL in certain RPGS, recent FFs being one of them since FFVIII so i use my code breaker for infinite gil. i shouldnt have to spend 10 hours fighting the same retarded enemies just so i can buy one item. seriouly what happened to gaining enough Gil in random battles. they had it perfect in FFVI.

i like the turn base, BUT i did say i dont mind how it is in FFXII. i wanna control all my characters, the problem was having to have to scroll each time to get to the character i wanna set a command for. w/ all that scrolling im getting my ass kicked by some enemy.

i think they fixed this in FFXIII from one screen shot i seen it looks like it has 4 boxes for each character at the bottom of the screen. they also are bringing back summons!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HIGH FIVE i love my summons coming out and kicking some ass real quick grin

the storyline started out good then got stupid, WEIRD and confusing.

im weird i loved final fantsy VIII and i didnt like FFVII so much. best thing about FFVII was the music. i hate how it has gotten a movie, a remake and another game BULL SHIT. i can only dream that they'll some day remake FFVI sad

Yeah killing bosses only gives you LP instead of EXP.furious Sometimes I'll travel with only one character but eventually he/she can't last long so I have to bring in back-up.

Man I saw the trailer for FF Xlll on IGN. Shit looked pretty cool. BTW do you play FF Xl? I have it but I can't play it because my computer doesn't have a DVD drive. My laptop does but it doesn't have internet, lol. Ugh!

whoops i forgot to post the 2nd greatest fighting game series ever

Street fighter series- its street fighter....how can you hate on street fighter? in my opinion its right behind tekken. it might have surpassed tekken if the 3-D street fighters were as good as the sprite ones. but other then the 3-D versions street fighter is one of the best series ever made. street fighter 3rd strike was my favorite street fighter. i cant even put why its so great because i dont know what to say. just the best street fighter to me
