Purchased a copy of VF5 yesterday and I've been playing over the past couple of hours. I think I hate this game. Does anyone remember me asking for you guys to recommend some good games that would give the buzz like MK series? Well, VF5 shouldn't be one of them. It's just not the same. I get no buzz, no zest and it feels so much like VF4 on PS2. I can appreciate why some of you guys like it but it just doesn't do it for me. AND I hate being kicked when I'm already down.

And why the hell can't I select a character when playing online. It defaults to character created with my profile. I just want a simple play, get the chance to choose new character and back and forth. I'm sure there's a way to get to this mode but why do I have to search for it?

So there! VF5 doesn't do it for me. Now I have to go back to MKA even though hardly anyone plays the game or do you?

Getting a Japanese is a bad idea. It will never....ever be as fun as MK. Granted people have issued with gameplay...yada yada yada blah blah.

But nothing will be as much fun as MK.

Yeah, I hear ya Trax well said man. Not everyone can like every fighting game.

MK is my #1 choice as well over other fighters.

Pig dude; Please let's not make this thread about what MKF likes. You guys should be tired of that shit now. I'd much prefer your opinion on other fight games.

-------------------------------------------
Same o' same
This VF5 doesn't do much for me. I actually prefer DOA4. And I was right when I said some time ago that most of the other games share pretty much same elements. Whether you look at it from combos perspective or general gameplay, I still think nothing (so far for me) comes close to MK (2d and 3d).

Love of the game
I love the combos in MK. They are inventive and there's a good feel factor every time you nail one. This is why the likes of Check and MKA's most critic, Red, can't get enough of constantly working on the project. Another thing is, if you do not know how to play MKA, you WILL NOT win against a player who knows what they're doing! This is not the case with most other 3D games I've played.

Gameplay
I played Soul Calibre at a friend's the other day and I was still able to compete to an acceptable level and even win good number of matches in a series to 10. I slotted in MKA and they pretty got slaughtered. Button mashing can't save you when you're playing MK but it damn well helps with other games as the core elements are easier to execute.

That's my opinion on how other beat 'em ups compare with MKA but please feel free to post your own analysis.

Hmm, I pretty much like all fighting games I've played. Of course MK in general is my favorite, with MKA being an exception as I can't stand to play that game. So due to the lack of a good MK game I have been trying some other fighters lately, namely VF4 Evolution, Soul Calibur III, and Tekken 5.

VF I like because the martial arts are very authentic and true to real life. Perhaps it's because I have been taking martial art lessons for years and can therefore appreciate well made martial arts game. The fighting is very deep and there is a lot to learn and perfect in the game. It's not nearly as easy as MK to just pick up and play but once you get into it, it does offer a lot more depth for the hard core fighting game fans. For casual players, it will probably be too had to play and may put them off. The story is virtually non-existent and the characters are sort of bland. Bottom line, it's more of a fighting simulator than a true game.

In Soul Calibur the martial arts are also authentic, but there is also a good blend of magical and fantasy-type moves added to the mix so in that sense it's more similar to MK. Soul Calibur III has a pretty good Character Creation mode, bud sadly no online play.

Tekken 5 is similar to VF in the sense that the gameplay is more about authentic martial arts than special moves. The storyline though is more fleshed out and characters are actually well developed, for a fighting game that is.

VF4:evo has outstanding gameplay, but sadly, everything else, other fighters beat it at.(music, replay value, and other extras)

Its only good when you have online or friends that like fighting games.

Raidenwins' analysis is always spot on!

I definitely agree on the martial art factor and VF5 wins that hands down. It now occurs to me that we're actually comparing 2 different types of game. MK is all fictional and based on fantasy while the likes of VF5 and Tekken are more based on reality and the dynamics of different martial arts.

Maybe that's what separates those who love MK franchise from those who don't. Personally, games based on real martial arts somewhat bores me. I like the fantasy type of game which explains why I enjoyed Soul Calibre 3.

@ Pig: I've been crying for the return of KI but I don't that shit is ever coming back. It was the bomb! They should release it for XBL arcade.

Trax

BTW; So Raiden, do you really kick ass like those folks in tVF5 since you're a martial art retainer.

Yeah, MK is the perfect blend on fantasy, martial arts and powers etc.

SC if fun but too much of a button masher IMO

I like MK, SF more then any other fighters honestly but to each his own.

I like this thread. I would say KI is my favorite game ever and MK would be 2nd on my list. The combos you could create in KI were so intuitive. KI MK SF I have never played Tekken and I have always wanted to try it out.

@Raiden
I always like hearing your input as much as I like hearing master malone's input. It is cool you are designing games and its nice to hear from someone that knows the real backend of things. Of course you know your Raiden sucks tongue

Speaking of KI and SF, it's amazing how popular the 2-D fighters still are. Just this past weekend I went to a local fighting games tournament and the main games people competed in were:

Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Smash Bros. Melee
SFIII: 3rd Strike
Capcom vs. SNK 2
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core

As you can see, mostly 2-D fighters. I was amazed at their popularity. Out of all the 3-D fighting games like MK, VF, Tekken, Soul Calibur, and DOA there was just one guy, other than me, that played Tekken 5 and just casually at that.

If I had the time, I probably could get into some of those 2-D fighters but I just have too many other games to play right now. Though I might still get some of them for an emulator with Kaillera and check out the competition online.

@Trax. Yeah, I do kick a#@ just like the guys in VF furious. Sparring is my favorite part of martial arts. I am Tae Kwon Do guy so it's mostly kicks that I specialize in. I also love martial arts movies. Just recently bought "Chinese Super Ninjas". If you guys haven't seen that movie you should check it out. It's awesome, some of the best fighting scenes I've ever seen.
